Prior to Grease: Live, I had no idea who Jordan Fisher was. I’m pretty sure most of the viewers hadn’t heard of the 21-year-old actor previously either. He appeared in Disney’s Teen Beach films and ABC Family’s The Secret Life of The American Teenage. Based on last night’s performance, I predict Fisher is here to stay.

The rising talent just dropped a new single via Soundcloud. “Counterfeit” is a sultry track that shows off his vocals, especially that sexy falsetto of his. The pop track has a shot of crossing over to mainstream radio if promoted wisely. It’s very in line with what Nick Jonas and Justin Bieber are serving up these days. Give it a listen below.

Grease Live: Huge Ratings & My Five Favorite Numbers

In: Donovan, Music
grease-live-ratings

Grease was definitely the word on Sunday night. FOX’s first live musical production hit all the right notes, scoring with critics and viewers alike.

Grease: Live danced away with 12.2 million viewers and an impressive 4.3 rating among adults 18-49, beating NBC’s last two live productions. The Wiz Live and Peter Pan Live scored 11.5 million and 9.2 million respectively. It did fall short, however, of The Sound of Music Live which delivered a whopping 18.3 million viewers. FOX, though, should be very proud. The network proved you could stage a live production without making it a hate-watching event.

Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed the three-hour extravaganza. There were so many moving parts (multiple sound stages, live audience and rainy weather) to the elaborate production. FOX really set the bar high for all following live musicals. This one will be hard to beat.

According to The Wrap, Vanessa Hudgen’s standout number, “There Are Worse Things I Could Do,” was the most re-watched scene during the live telecast. While Hudgen’s Rizzo cover ranked in my Top 5, it wasn’t my favorite. Find out which scene was below.

Listen To Jessie J Cover ‘Grease Is The Word’

When FOX airs Grease: Live, Jessie J gets the honor of kicking things off. The 27-year-old Brit begins the show by covering “Grease Is The Word” originally sung by Frankie Valli in the 1978 hit musical.

“There’s no pressure like being the first one on stage. I love that rush of the nerves I’m going to get, I just feel very honored and very lucky that I’ve been asked to experience something like this,” Jessie tells Billboard.

For the most part, Jessie stays true to the arrangement of the Barry Gibb-penned tune. Give her rendition a spin in the clip below which features plenty of footage of the cast during rehearsals.

With just a couple of weeks left before Grease: Live premieres on FOX, the network is still announcing new cast members. On the heels of Boyz II Men participating comes news of another group heading to Rydell High.

The latest to join the highly-anticipated live musical production are DNCE. The Joe Jonas-led group will play Johnny Casino and the Gamblers. In the original 1978 film, Sha Na Na played the part and performed “Born To Hand Jive” during the film’s memorable sock hop.

In other DNCE-related news, the group recently premiered a new track “Pay My Rent.” The tune and the group are heavily featured in Diesel’s Spring/Summer 2016 ad campaign. Check it out below, along with “Born To Hand Jive” below

Grease: Live is just mere weeks away. Who’s excited? It’s either going to be really fantastic or a huge trainwreck. Either way, it won’t be boring.

While the majority of the cast has been locked down for months now, one small role had yet to be cast- Teen Angel. Remember when Frankie Avalon serenaded Frenchy with “Beauty School Dropout” during the dream scenario in the original musical? One of the most iconic moments for sure. Find out below, who’s been tapped to recreate that memorable moment.

Julianne Hough may look the part of Sandy, famously played by Olivia Newton-John. But does the Dancing With The Stars judge have the vocals to match the Aussie icon. Thanks to a few audio teasers of the cast singing, people can finally make that comparison.

FOX recently uploaded four songs from the highly-anticipated live event to VINE. We have Hough taking on “Hopelessly Devoted To You,” along with the cast taking on “Summer Nights,” We Go Together,” and the iconic “You’re the One That I Want.”

Check them all out below and weigh in afterward. Grease Live airs on FOX on January 31. Unlike NBC’s live productions, this one will also feature the cast performing in front of a live studio audience. Double the pressure.

Grease Live! Cast Hand Jives In New Promo

In: Donovan, TV Shows

On the heels of FOX releasing the first promo images of its highly-anticipated production of Grease Live!, comes the first clip. This time, however, Aaron Tveit, Julianne Hough and Vanessa Hudgens aren’t the only ones featured. The entire main cast don their 50s-era outfits to serve up retro realness.

Carly Rae Jepsen (Frenchy), Keke Palmer (Marty), Carlos PenaVega (Kenickie) and the rest of the cast shake and shimmy in front of their Rydell High lockers to the iconic song, “Born To Hand Jive.” It’s a fun and slick promo that has me even more excited for the telecast. Will this new cast, though, do the beloved musical justice come January 2016? Fingers crossed. Check out the promo below.

Grease Live! Synopsis

Featuring a young ensemble cast, GREASE: LIVE will reintroduce and reimagine some of the show’s most memorable moments, great music and timeless love story to an entirely new generation. In this live television adaptation of the musical classic, the beginning of senior year means the end of Danny and Sandy’s summer romance – until Sandy unexpectedly transfers to Danny’s high school. Can Danny maintain his bad-boy image as the coolest member of the T-Birds, once he and Sandy start going together, and can Sandy remain a good girl after she joins the Pink Ladies? With their friends Rizzo and Kenickie pulling them in different directions, it’s up to Danny and Sandy to stay hopelessly devoted as they make their way from Rydell High to a new frontier.

After a lengthy delay due to finding the right Danny Zuko, FOX finally airs Grease Live! on January 31. It appears it was worth the wait. The first official cast promo images are on point.

Aaron Tveit steps into John Travolta’s tight black jeans quite nicely, while Vanessa Hudgens channels her inner Pink Lady, playing Betty Rizzo. Two images of Julianne Hough show us the two sides of Sandy- the innocent new girl at school and the sexy vixen at the end of the flick.

Hopefully, images of Carlos PenaVega as Kenickie, Keke Palmer as Marty, Carly Rae Jepsen as Frenchy, Kether Donohue as Jan and David Del Rio as Putzie follow soon.

Jessie J will also take part in the production, performing a rendition of “Grease (Is the Word)” at the beginning of the telecast. Check out the images below.
