Glee Cuts Four Series Regulars For Season 5

In: Donovan, TV Shows

Last year, when the first crop of seniors graduated McKinley High, Ryan Murphy wasn’t ruthless enough to cut any of them, letting the cast decide if they wanted to stay on the show. The Glee co-creator kept all of them on payroll and as series regulars despite some of them only appearing in a handful of episodes. That’s not the case for Season 5. Find out who’s being cut from the show below.

WOW!!! It’s insane how a completely different hairstyle can alter someone’s look so drastically. Not that he wasn’t a good-looking guy before, but without his signature dreadlocks, Samuel Larsen is one fine looking man. The 21-year-old debuted his new look over the weekend with a shirtless photo shoot with Chelsea Lauren. The Glee star tweeted the following to accompany the pics.

Just for the record my neck feels freakin awesome okay. Seriously. #holla.” – Samuel Larsen

Larsen continued to show off his new look by attending the Ciroc Summer Birthday Bash on Saturday in Los Angeles. He partook in some cocktails and even took a dip in the pool during the event. Check out several pics below. Be sure to sound off on Larsen’s new look afterward in the comments section.

Another Glee Star Inks A Book Deal

In: Donovan, TV Shows

Are book deals the new record deals? Apparently so with regards to the Glee cast. When the FOX show became a breakout hit, I fully expected to be inundated with individual albums from most of the cast. Not so much. With only a couple of exceptions like Matthew Morrison and Mark Saling, the cast haven’t delved into the record industry independently from the show.

On the literary front, Chris Colfer published a best-selling fantasy novel with another one on the way. Jenna Ushkowitz just released her first novel Choosing Glee earlier this month. Jane Lynch has also penned her own book, Happy Accidents. Find out the latest Glee cast member to become a published author below.

Can you believe Glee is airing its Season 4 finale on Thursday? It seems just like yesterday when Rachel, Finn, Mercedes, Quinn, Mike, Puck and Santana graduated from McKinley High. Don’t expect another commencement ceremony on the finale this season. Ryan Murphy is splitting up the school year between Season 4 and Season 5. Instead, here’s what to expect on Thursday.

Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Blaine (Darren Criss) might or might not get engaged. An older lesbian couple (Kurt and Blaine in 20 years *wink*) played by TV vets Meredith Baxter and Patty Duke will undoubtedly play a factor in that. With regards to New Directions, they compete at Regionals against a formidable team headlined by Frida Romero portrayed by American Idol Season 11 runner-up Jessica Sanchez.

In the meantime, Rachel heads to her Funny Girl callback. Will she choke or will she be Broadway bound for Glee Season 5? More importantly, what is she singing? Find out below. A few of the artists covered on the finale include Icona Pop, The Script, Celine Dion, Little Mix, DJ Zedd and an original track. Check them all out below.

Glee, Grimm, Splash & Ready For Love News

In: Donovan, TV Shows

When FOX gave several shows renewal notices for next season and Glee wasn’t on that list, some were worried that the musical show was in danger of getting axed. Don’t worry Gleeks. The McKinley High group isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. The show still averages 8.7 million viewers weekly, according to the network. In addition, the show has produced more than 53 million digitally downloaded singles as well as sold 13 million albums. Cash cow indeed.

FOX renewed the show not only for Season 5 but Season 6 as well. Clearly, negotiations were holding back the renewal announcement. It also looks like Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and company will remain intact behind the scenes. There were reports that they were leaving to focus on other projects.

“‘Glee’ debuted as the first and only successful musical comedy series on television, and more than four years later, it continues to defy genres, break new ground and have a significant impact on popular culture,” Reilly said in a statement. “Week in and week out, Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, Ian Brennan, Dante DiLoreto and the entire ‘Glee’ team deliver a series that not only delights and surprises fans, but also inspires them to talk about, share, debate and engage with the show — and I’m absolutely thrilled to have them on board for another two seasons.” – Kevin Reilly, Fox Broadcasting Company chairman of entertainment

Glee Casts Mentors For Kurt & Blaine

In: Donovan, TV Shows

Two legendary actresses from classic television shows have signed on to appear as a lesbian couple on the FOX musical show. Even though the network hasn’t officially renewed the show, both actresses are expected to return should Glee come back for a fifth season. Ryan Murphy hailed “Shooting Star” as one of Glee‘s most powerful and emotional episodes they’ve ever filmed. Was he right or did he exaggerate? I say “yes” and “no.”

The episode felt like two different parts. The events leading up to the gunshots were a tad silly and didn’t really fit in. I love Brittany (Heather Morris) but the whole asteroid Armageddon drama and Lord Tubbington subplots didn’t work here. Also, I like Ryder’s “Catfish” dating storyline, but again it would’ve been served better in a different episode. PS: Who do you think it is? I’m calling Unique.

Where “Shooting Star” shined were the moments it showed the students dealing with the fact they were about to die. For the most part, the cast isn’t pushed with their acting abilities, but did they ever impress during those tense moments. I was on the edge of my seat and really felt their emotion. Brittany was a revelation as she stood in a bathroom stall hiding out. Who knew she should could act as well as she dances?

In the end *SPOILER ALERT* there was no gunman but rather it was Becky (Lauren Potter). She brought the gun to Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) and accidentally triggered two shots. In the end, Sue took the fall for Becky and was forced to leave her position.

Was I hoping for some bloodshed? No, but the resolution seemed like a cop out. I guess Ryan Murphy was careful not to construct a story that made the show a procedural crime drama. Law & Order: Lima Heights anyone? After all the show is about singing and pimping singles on iTunes. Check out all of last night’s performances below.

Glee Gets Serious With ‘Shooting Star’ Episode

In: Donovan, TV Shows

After a three week hiatus, Glee returns with a brand new powerful episode. Taking a page from Law & Order’s ripped from the headlines mantra, the FOX musical show tackles gun violence. Co-creator Ryan Murphy tweeted last week, “Just saw the rough cut of next week’s “Shooting Star”. It is the most powerful emotional Glee ever. So proud of the cast & crew.”

Shooting Star” kicks off with a bang. When the kids hear two gun shots fired, they barricade themselves in the choir room…. but not everyone is together. A couple of members of New Directions are still roaming around the hallway.

There are no New York scenes in this episode, but it’ll have other storylines. Brittany (Heather Morris) believes an asteroid is coming, while Ryder (Blake Jenner) continues to question the identity of his online Catfish crush. Given the seriousness of the episode, only three songs are performed. Check them all out below.
