Glee, Grimm, Splash & Ready For Love News

In: Donovan, TV Shows

When FOX gave several shows renewal notices for next season and Glee wasn’t on that list, some were worried that the musical show was in danger of getting axed. Don’t worry Gleeks. The McKinley High group isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. The show still averages 8.7 million viewers weekly, according to the network. In addition, the show has produced more than 53 million digitally downloaded singles as well as sold 13 million albums. Cash cow indeed.

FOX renewed the show not only for Season 5 but Season 6 as well. Clearly, negotiations were holding back the renewal announcement. It also looks like Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and company will remain intact behind the scenes. There were reports that they were leaving to focus on other projects.

“‘Glee’ debuted as the first and only successful musical comedy series on television, and more than four years later, it continues to defy genres, break new ground and have a significant impact on popular culture,” Reilly said in a statement. “Week in and week out, Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, Ian Brennan, Dante DiLoreto and the entire ‘Glee’ team deliver a series that not only delights and surprises fans, but also inspires them to talk about, share, debate and engage with the show — and I’m absolutely thrilled to have them on board for another two seasons.” – Kevin Reilly, Fox Broadcasting Company chairman of entertainment

Ryan Murphy hailed “Shooting Star” as one of Glee‘s most powerful and emotional episodes they’ve ever filmed. Was he right or did he exaggerate? I say “yes” and “no.”

The episode felt like two different parts. The events leading up to the gunshots were a tad silly and didn’t really fit in. I love Brittany (Heather Morris) but the whole asteroid Armageddon drama and Lord Tubbington subplots didn’t work here. Also, I like Ryder’s “Catfish” dating storyline, but again it would’ve been served better in a different episode. PS: Who do you think it is? I’m calling Unique.

Where “Shooting Star” shined were the moments it showed the students dealing with the fact they were about to die. For the most part, the cast isn’t pushed with their acting abilities, but did they ever impress during those tense moments. I was on the edge of my seat and really felt their emotion. Brittany was a revelation as she stood in a bathroom stall hiding out. Who knew she should could act as well as she dances?

In the end *SPOILER ALERT* there was no gunman but rather it was Becky (Lauren Potter). She brought the gun to Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) and accidentally triggered two shots. In the end, Sue took the fall for Becky and was forced to leave her position.

Was I hoping for some bloodshed? No, but the resolution seemed like a cop out. I guess Ryan Murphy was careful not to construct a story that made the show a procedural crime drama. Law & Order: Lima Heights anyone? After all the show is about singing and pimping singles on iTunes. Check out all of last night’s performances below.

Glee Gets Serious With ‘Shooting Star’ Episode

In: Donovan, TV Shows

After a three week hiatus, Glee returns with a brand new powerful episode. Taking a page from Law & Order’s ripped from the headlines mantra, the FOX musical show tackles gun violence. Co-creator Ryan Murphy tweeted last week, “Just saw the rough cut of next week’s “Shooting Star”. It is the most powerful emotional Glee ever. So proud of the cast & crew.”

Shooting Star” kicks off with a bang. When the kids hear two gun shots fired, they barricade themselves in the choir room…. but not everyone is together. A couple of members of New Directions are still roaming around the hallway.

There are no New York scenes in this episode, but it’ll have other storylines. Brittany (Heather Morris) believes an asteroid is coming, while Ryder (Blake Jenner) continues to question the identity of his online Catfish crush. Given the seriousness of the episode, only three songs are performed. Check them all out below.

Which Former Sitcom Mom Is Heading To Glee?

In: Donovan, TV Shows

With graduation coming soon on Glee, it’s time to meet some parents. Up until now, not much has been revealed about Artie’s (Kevin McHale) family life. That’s all about to change, according to an announcement made by Ryan Murphy on Twitter.

“So thrilled to announce my friend [BLANK] is playing Artie’s mom on Glee!” Ryan Murphy announced on Twitter. “There is nothing this woman can’t do!”

Have any ideas on who he’s referring to? Here’s a hint. This actress has played one of television’s most memorable and hilarious moms in history. She had a signature walk and loved to have sex on the sitcom. Currently, she stars on a hit cable show. Find out who below.

Which Glee Star Is Preggers?

In: Celeb Gossip & News, Donovan

It certainly has been a news-filled week for the personal lives of Glee stars. A few days ago, it was revealed that Cory Monteith was voluntarily admitting himself to a treatment facility for substance addiction. Reports say that it was his girlfriend Lea Michele who persuaded him to seek help. This isn’t the first time Monteith entered rehab. Back in 2011, he revealed to an interview with Parade that he had a “serious problem” with drugs at the age of 19. The 30-year-old star received supportive tweets from the cast and show.

Speaking of the show, a couple of episodes ago, Rachel (Lea Michele) had a pregnancy scare. Even though she found out she was without child, turns out a cast member in real life is. US magazine exclusively reports that one of the actresses is about three months along and starting to show. The source says, “It’s totally unexpected, but they are incredibly happy and excited.” Find out who and check out the cute baby daddy below.

Relive Glee’s Guilty Pleasures

In: Donovan, TV Shows

It’s kinda ironic that Glee did an episode dedicated to guilty pleasures. Isn’t the FOX show one of the guiltiest ones around?

The biggest complaint of Glee in the past couple of seasons is the lack of plot in the episodes. The performances used to work seamlessly as plot devices to push season storylines and build characters. Some say the show is merely a vehicle to push singles to cash in. Truthfully, I don’t disagree with a lot of viewers’ sentiments. While fun to watch, “Guilty Pleasures” really had nothing going on. Even Mr. Schu (Matthew Morrison) didn’t bother showing up. New Directions had to give themselves their own assignments.

The one big thing that transpired was Rachel (Lea Michele) finally confronting Brody (Dean Geyer) about his male hooking ways. With their breakup, I hope this doesn’t mean we’ll be deprived of Geyer’s sexy body. At least we’ll always have that amazing shower scene from the season premiere. SIGH. Can’t they just keep him around and parade him shirtless in the background?

As mentioned earlier, the performances were lots of fun. At least Murphy can still bring it when producing the musical numbers. Check them all out below, along with my thoughts on each one.

Listen To Glee’s Guilty Pleasures

In: Donovan, TV Shows

Everyone has them. I have plenty. In fact, when I used to work for a teen online magazine, I used to place mine in a playlist titled “work research.” That way if my friends saw Hilary Duff, Ashlee Simpson or Jesse McCartney on there, I could easily pass them off as work-related material. It always worked ;)

On Thursday, Glee shares theirs in the aptly-titled “Guilty Pleasures” episode. Some might say, isn’t every show riddled with them. Fair enough, but this one is jam-packed with guilty pleasures. What songs and artists does Ryan Murphy think people should be ashamed for liking? Based on the picture above, you can tell one of them is the Spice Girls. Clearly, Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) is Scary Spice, Marley (Melissa Benoist) is Posh Spice, Brittany (Heather Morris) is Sporty Spice, Unique (Alex Newell) is Baby Spice and Kitty (Becca Tobin) is Ginger Spice. Obviously, they’re going to take on “Wannabe.”

Other artists covered include Wham!, Bobby Brown, Phil Collins, Barry Manilow and ABBA. All are definitely worthy to be called guilty pleasures. The only odd man out seems to be Radiohead’s “Creep” covered by Brody (Dean Geyer) and Rachel (Lea Michele). I guess Murphy couldn’t find another track for Rachel to confront Brody about being a male hooker. Listen to this duet along with all the guilty pleasure covers below.
