out-magazine-power-50-list-2014

For the past several years, Apple CEO Tim Cook was top dog on OUT Magazine’s annual Power 50 list. For the 2014 edition, the 53-year-old has to settle for the runner-up slot. Ellen DeGeneres has reclaimed the most powerful title from the publication. The daytime talk show host stood at numero uno back in 2010.

“Everybody loves Ellen, and that’s one of the reasons she’s regained the top spot,” OUT writes. The magazine also cites DeGeneres’ epic Oscar selfie which broke the record of most retweeted post ever and briefly crashed Twitter.

For the past eight years, the publication has ranked powerful and prestigious gay men and women who have tremendous influence. The list is compiled of Hollywood power players, publishing magnates, political figures, web entrepreneurs and everything in between. It’s worth nothing Ellen Page who came out recently makes the list for the first time at No. 29. Find out who the LGBT cream of the crop are below.

2014-oscar-telecast

For the third year in a row, the Oscar telecast rose in ratings. The 86th Annual Academy Awards scored a whopping 43 million viewers and a 12.9 rating among adults 18-49. Last night’s show was the most-watched entertainment telecast in 10 years since NBC’s 2004 Friends finale, not including a sporting event. The Oscars generated far more than recent high-profile awards shows including the Golden Globes and Grammys which drew 22.1 million and 14.5 million viewers respectively.

12 Years A Slave snatched Best Picture honors but Gravity was the biggest winner in terms of most wins. The Sandra Bullock film won seven Oscars. It comes just behind Cabaret, which won eight statues as the film to win the most categories without taking Best Picture. On the flip side, American Hustle walked away with nothing despite receiving 10 nominations. The David O’Russell film is tied for second with Gangs of New York and True Grit for most nominations with no win. The record holders are The Turning Point and The Color Purple with 11 nods but no hardware.

If I could crash only one Oscar party, it’d be a tough choice between Elton John’s gala or Vanity Fair’s shindig. There’s plenty of star power at each event and no doubt tasty eats and delicious cocktails. However, after checking out Vanity Fair’s Instagram account, I’m leaning towards theirs.

Several attendees posed for the publication’s photobooth under the watchful eye of photographer Mark Seliger. Donatella Versace posed with her latest celeb ambassadors, Lady Gaga and Nolan Gerard Funk, for a stunning photo that could easily pass for an official campaign pic. Other standouts include Selena Gomez, Naomi Watts, Neil Patrick Harris and of course, the queen of the night, Miss Lupita Nyong’o. Check out a few below.

It’s become somewhat of a tradition now. Whenever an engaged lady visits Ellen DeGeneres, the daytime talk show host bestows a sexy gift to her guest. Why Sofia Vergara only received one strapping stud instead of multiple men is a crime. The Modern Family actress and viewers want (and deserve) more.

As much as I love buff guys gyrating their hips with no shirt, the highlight of Sofia’s visit was a commercial she filmed with Ellen. The two ladies are both CoverGirl models but have never appeared in the same ad… until now. The duo participated in a hilarious faux ad for the German market. It reminded me somewhat of SNL’s vintage Sprockets sketches. Check it out below, along with Sofia’s bachelorette striptease.

Happy 60th Birthday Oprah Winfrey

In: Celeb Gossip & News, Donovan
oprah-winfrey-birthday

One of the most powerful women in the world turns the big 6-0 today. Happy Birthday Oprah.

Given that it’s a milestone birthday, one would think a huge birthday bash is in order. Not so. Reportedly, the billionaire media entrepreneur will have a “quiet dinner” in the seaside town of Montecito. Definitely a far cry from her 50th birthday. That came with a televised bash, celebrity friends, high-profile luncheon and a black-tie dinner. Supposedly, she nixed her initial plans to throw a gigantic blow out party because the guest list got out of control. I guess you can have too many friends ;)

“The 6-0 number, I’ve always said to people to own it. Even I, who has said to women all these years, own it, own it, own it, took a pause for that.” - O told CBS News last year.

Even though she’s not hosting a grand celebration, that didn’t stop Ellen DeGeneres from giving the former daytime talk show host a gift. What to give the woman who has everything? A huge sequined self portrait of course. DeGeneres even called Winfrey to talk about it during her show. Their conversation was wonderfully strange. Obviously, it was fake, but still an entertaining watch.

NBC Picks Up Gay-Themed Sitcom From Ellen DeGeneres

In: Donovan, TV Shows

Hopefully for Ellen DeGeneres, NBC sticks with her new gay-themed show longer than Ryan Murphy’s The New Normal. Who else misses that show?

The peacock network just picked up a pilot from the talk show host. Tentatively titled, One Big Happy, the comedy is being developed by Warner Bros. TV and DeGeneres. Liz Feldman whose credits included Hot In Cleveland and 2 Broke Girls is writing the script. The premise of the potential sitcom sounds an awful lot like one of NBC’s past hits, Will & Grace.

Here’s the official logline for the show: “When gay and straight best friends decide to have a baby together, things get complicated when one of them finds the love of their life.”

Are you looking forward to this LGBT-themed show? Do you think Ellen and NBC have a potential winner on their hands? Weigh in below.

Even though they claim their video wasn’t made specifically to get them on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Cream Pies found themselves hanging out with the talk show host on Wednesday’s show. Bill Reilich, Stevie Brock, Dan Burtenshaw and Dan Cox performed their viral hit, “We Love You, Ellen” and received a trip to Las Vegas with accommodations at the Cosmopolitan Hotel for their troubles.

Super buff Reilich delivered his lyrics in a crop top provided by DeGeneres This dude is seriously jacked. How does one even get that big and that cut? Insane. Watch the clip below to find out how these childhood friends decided on their group name, came up with the idea for the video and more.

The Cream Pies bill themselves as “a group of 4 devilishly handsome lifelong friends who make passionate and hilarious hip hop music together.” No disrespect to the other three, but it’s all about the guy above. WOOF, muscle daddy. If you think that above visual is hot, wait til you see what’s lurking underneath that grey tee. It’s everything and then some.

The hip hop quartet group recorded a song for Ellen DeGeneres, aptly titled, “We Love You, Ellen.” They swear it’s not an attempt to get on her show (I call BS), but a sincere and honest tribute to her awesomeness. That may be, but I’m sure once Ellen’s people see this, they’ll be asked to perform this ditty on an upcoming episode. Check out the music video below.
