DNews is a show about the science of everyday life and they post new videos three times a day, every weekday. Yesterday, they posted their Top 5 Science Stories of 2012! In the video, the host Trace counts down the biggest stories in a year full of amazing scientific advancements and achievements.
One of the top science stories of the year was the Mayan Apocalypse…or shall I say non-story of the year. There was so much build up to this “end of the world” event, with people stocking up of food & supplies, others climbing mountains or heading underground where they thought they’d be safe from whatever world-ending events they believed would unfold.
Check out the other top stories and Trace’s funny take on each of them in the video below.
One of the earth’s most mysterious places the Bermuda Triangle. So many boats, planes, and lives have been lost in an area that is understandably nicknamed “The Devil’s Triangle,” yet there is no certain explanation as to what exactly happens and why. This area is found between Puerto Rico, Miami, and Bermuda covering an area of 500,000 square miles. The Bermuda Triangle has taken down over one hundred aircrafts in seven decades.
This coming Sunday on Curiosity (which is on the Discovery Channel), an episode will air where a team of investigators go deep into the triangle to explore ocean floor wrecks and stage experiments to tackle the mystery once and for all. Is it some form of extreme weather? A rare ocean phenomenon? Or could something else? The scientists test theories on a scale never done before
Curiosity: The Devil’s Triangle premieres Sunday, October 14 at 9:00pm E/P. Check out some of the previews below. I’m certainly intrigued!
As we delve deeper into summer, we’re getting that much closer to the annual “Shark Week” on the Discover Channel. For me, sharks and snakes are my biggest fears. With that said, I’m also completely fascinated by them and when I catch visuals of them when flipping through the channels, I always stop & watch. In fact, as a kid I used to be obsessed with the “Jaws” series and “Baywatch“.
Promos for this year’s Shark Week have started airing and apparently even the Discover Channel has gone Gaga! They’re using Lady Gaga’s song, “Teeth” as the anthem for their Shark Week promo, which both fits and doesn’t fit at the same time. LOL. You’ll never hear me asking a shark, “Show me your teeth!” I’ll pass.
Shark Week premieres on July 31st on the Discover Channel and this year, it’ll feature their first-ever Chief Shark Officer, Andy Samberg (pictured above). Brilliant! Check out the promo below.
Holy crap! This is a scary situation! There is a gunman in the lobby of Discovery Channel HQ in Silver Spring, Md. The guy is a former employee, Asian, and apparently has already fired his weapon in the building. No one has been reported to be injured, but the suspect appears to be wearing an explosive device of some sort strapped to his chest as well and holding someone hostage.
Hopefully the authorities are able to change the channel on this situation before anyone gets hurt and the guy makes a bigger mistake than he already has.
UPDATE: Police have shot the gunman, believed to be James J. Lee, and all the hostages are safe. He apparently was criticizing the network in his efforts to save the planet and back in in ’08 made had following statement on a website registered in his name:
“These guys have been very sneaky and deceptive as to their contribution to the planetary problems. Just look at their ‘new’ show about saving the planet, Planet Green, to me, it’s just another show about more PRODUCTS to make MONEY, not about actual solutions. We can’t let them get away with doing it anymore.”
Violence is never the answer.
