After five seasons, the CW has decided to cancel their reprise of the hit show, 90210. The show hasn’t been doing so well with ratings so it shouldn’t come as a surprise. According to TV Line, this season alone slid from a million viewers and a 0.5 demo rating (with its opener) to, at last tally, under 600,000 viewers and a 0.3, shedding a significant chunk of its Carrie Diaries lead-in.
“The CW has had five great seasons with America’s favorite zip code, 90210,” president Mark Pedowitz said in a statement. He continued, “I’d like to thank the talented cast, producers, and crew for all their hard work and dedication to the series. We are very proud of the West Beverly High alumni.”
With the success of The Hunger Games book and subsequent movie, it only makes sense for television to try and capitalize on the concept – especially considering the concept of the story is a televised reality show as well.
The CW has just announced that they’ve just ordered a new series called The Hunt and the premise of the show is described as follows: An intense wilderness competition taking place over one month, as 12 teams of two are provided no food, water, or shelter, but must compete in a game where they’ll rely on their physicality, survival skills, and hunting skills to endure their conditions, capture one another, and ultimately win a huge cash prize.”
It’s seems like what could be a more intense version of Survivor crossed with The Hunger Games, without the “kill or be killed” component to it. No premiere date has been announced as of yet. Simultaneously, they’ve announced another (completely different) show that they’ve ordered and there’s more info on that one below.
TV Line is reporting that they have learned exclusively that Kristen Bell will be making an appearance on Gossip Girl before the series wraps up. As you know, she narrates on the show as the voice of the trash-talking, life-ruining, big-mouth blogger, Gossip Girl who boasts as being, “Your one and only source into the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite.” This begs the question, will she be the actual GG that is to be revealed?
The shows creators have already promised that GG will be revealed before the series is over, so an educated guess would be that GG will be played by Kristen Bell. It would make sense that it’s her, considering where already familiar with her voice and everything. I also think she’d be brilliant in the role. Remember how awesome she was at her character on Heroes?
It seems like we’ve been talking about the CW’s upcoming new Sex And The City prequel TV show titled The Carrie Diaries for quite some time now. Well, now they’ve just released the first series preview and we’ve got your first look at the first season below. Here’s the official synopsis of the show:
“It’s 1984, and life isn’t easy for 16-year-old Carrie Bradshaw. Since their mother passed away, Carrie’s younger sister Dorritt is more rebellious than ever, and their father Tom is overwhelmed with the responsibility of suddenly having to care for two teenage girls on his own. Carrie’s friends – sweet, geeky Mouse, snarky Maggie and sensitive Walt – make life bearable, but a suburban life in Connecticut isn’t doing much to take her mind off her troubles. Even the arrival of a sexy new transfer student named Sebastian only reminds Carrie that she spent the whole summer grieving rather than moving on with life. So when Tom offers Carrie the chance to intern at a law firm in Manhattan, she leaps at the chance. Carrie’s eyes are opened wide at the glamour and grit of New York City – and when she meets Larissa, the style editor for Interview magazine, she’s inspired by the club culture and unique individuals that make up Larissa’s world. Carrie’s friends and family may have a big place in her heart, but she’s fallen in love for the first time with the most important man in her life – Manhattan.”

The last of the major networks to announce its upcoming slate of new shows was the little network that
couldn’t could. Unlike CBS, where barely any changes occurred, the CW took a completely different route. The network, shockingly, flipped their entire schedule around, leaving only one series remaining in their current time slot- “The Vampire Diaries” on Thursday nights at 8pm. I guess, when you’re perpetually in last place, you have to do something drastic.
The biggest change by far has to be “America’s Next Top Model” being scuttled to Friday nights. That decision will either become a brilliant strategic move or the nail in the coffin for the veteran modeling competition. The Tyra Banks show will now be paired up with “Nikita“. Thank the television gods for saving that show. I love the Maggie Q-led show. Definitely underrated.
Typically, the CW is known for being the go-to network for teenage girls, but the television execs want to change that. Their brand new shows are more aimed at attracting a diverse audience. Sure, there’s the “Carrie Diaries“, but “Cult” and “Arrow” are definitely a departure for them. But before we check out the shows, let’s have a moment of silence for the canceled ones. So long, “H8R”, “One Tree Hill” (Final Season), “The Secret Circle” and “Ringer”. I’ll definitely miss the last one. The Sarah Michelle Gellar series got off to a slow start but picked up steam in the end.
Well, looks like the majority of people hated the CW’s “H8R” (I had to say it), as the network has just taken it off their fall schedule. After only four episodes, with the most recent one bringing in the second-lowest number of viewers at 1.07 million, the show has been given the boot. This is the third show to be cancelled so far this season, with NBC’s “The Playboy Club” getting cut first and more recently, NBC’s “Free Agents” also getting the axe.
In the episodes that made it to air, host Mario Lopez at least got to help a few celebrities call out their haters on national television. These celebs included: Snooki, Kim Kardashian, Jake Pavelka, Scott Disick, and Eva Longoria among a few others. Next week’s episode would have featured Janice Dickinson & Levi Johnston, but alas they won’t be getting the chance to address their negative public perception. My feeling is that a show like this would have done far better on MTV, catering to the intended audience.
So what will be filling H8R’s time slot?
One of the CW’s new shows called “The Secret Circle” is offering viewers the chance to watch the series premiere (which was filmed here in Vancouver) of the show ahead of schedule by making it available on iTunes. The show debuts on the CW this Thursday, September 16th but you can current watch the first episode for free on iTunes right now (if you are in the U.S.).
I watched a little sneak peak of the show on the CW’s fall lineup preview show and the premise is extremely similar to “The Craft” movie from 1997. I used to own the film, that stars Neve Campbell and three other women in a story about highschool witchcraft. A new girl moves to town and ends up in a “Secret Circle” of witches, where some of those involved don’t have the greatest intentions with their powers. I recently rewatched The Craft with Tyrell who had never seen it, and I have to say I’m looking forward to this show. Goodbye Vampires, Hello Witches!
This is going to be pretty epic. Fashion icon, Jean Paul Gaultier interviews Lady Gaga in a TV special called “Gaga By Gaultier,” airing on the CW next Monday. So random that this is going to be on the CW, considering they aren’t usually the ones to do these “one night only” specials or a network where you see such a high caliber interview.
Gaultier asks Gaga at the beginning of the interview if there is any question that is off limits, to which she replies “No.” They talk about her life before the fame, bisexuality, drug use, and of course her creatively outrageous fashion sense. Gaga, who is currently on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar says, “I like woman… sexually,” in the interview and says “Ugh! I’m shocked,” at the end of the preview. What could SHE possible be shocked about?
Can’t wait to watch this. I know she’s done a lot of these “Behind The Gaga” type interviews, but this one seems different and a little more interesting than some of the ones of seen. Plus she’s being interviewed by Jean Paul Gaultier! The special airs Monday, September 12th on the CW at 8/7c. Check out the preview below!
