After losing his wife in a tragic car accident, Jake Gyllenhaal attempts to rebuild his life by demolishing things first. His come-to-Jesus moment begins innocently enough as he writes a complaint letter to a vending machine company.

Demolition Movie Synopsis

Davis (Gyllenhaal), a successful investment banker, struggles after losing his wife in a tragic car crash. Despite pressure from his father in law Phil (Chris Cooper) to pull it together, Davis continues to unravel. What starts as a complaint letter to a vending machine company turns into a series of letters revealing startling personal admissions. Davis’ letters catch the attention of customer service rep Karen (Naomi Watts) and, amidst emotional and financial burdens of her own, the two form an unlikely connection. With the help of Karen and her son Chris (Judah Lewis), Davis starts to rebuild, beginning with the demolition of the life he once knew.

Demolition comes from Jean-Marc Vallee, the same man who delivered Dallas Buyers Club and Wild. The film premieres this week at TIFF but won’t hit theaters until April 8, 2016. Check out the first trailer below.

On the heels of its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, a new trailer for August: Osage County has surfaced. Not surprisingly, the buzz coming from TIFF is all about Meryl Streep’s performance. Is she headed for another Oscar? Reportedly, The Weinstein Company planned to campaign for her in the Best Supporting Actress category, while Julia Roberts received the Best Actress push. Now, it seems Harvey Weinstein has flipped the script and reversed the two ladies. After seeing the trailer, you can see why it’s all about Streep… once again.

August: Osage County is based on Tracy Letts’ play of the same name. The film revolves around a family coming together after a family death. To say they’re a dysfunctional unit would be putting it mildly. Streep plays a pill-popping sharp-tongued curmudgeon suffering from cancer. Based on that description alone, you just know she’s going to be the scene-stealer of the group.

Joining Streep are Ewan McGregor, Chris Cooper, Abigail Breslin, Benedict Cumberbatch, Juliette Lewis, Dermot Mulroney and of course Roberts. August: Osage County is directed by John Wells and scheduled to hit theaters in limited release on December 25. Check out the trailer below.

Side note: Mulroney and Roberts together once again. It’s a My Best Friend’s Wedding reunion. Where’s Cameron Diaz?

As much as I love a good comedy, drama, or action movie, I far prefer a good thriller and this one looks like a goodie. The film is called The Company You Keep and is directed by Robert Redford who is also one of the main characters. It’s the first time he’s showing his on and off screen talents in a movie since back in 2007 with Lions For Lambs.

The thriller centers on a former Weather Underground activist (Robert Redford) who goes on the run from a journalist (Shia Labeouf) who has discovered his identity. This all happens after Sharon Solarz (Susan Surandon) is arrested 30 years after a murder she committed as part of the activist group. This is probably one of the most high caliber ensemble casts for a thriller I’ve ever seen, with so many Academy Award winners and/or nominees making up the group.

Other cast members not yet mentioned include Julie Christie, Sam Elliott, Terrance Howard, Anna Kendrick, Stanley Tucci, Nick Nolte, Chris Cooper, Brit Marling, Brendan Gleeson, and more.
