The search for Charlie Hunnam’s replacement seems to be over. At least that’s what Variety.com is reporting. Their insider source says the 31-year-old Northern Irish actor is in final negotiations to star in the 50 Shades of Grey movie adaptation. Focus/Universal declined to confirm, but I assume they’ll make it official in the coming days.
Ever since his name first surfaced as among one of the contenders, Jamie Dornan has been my frontrunner. When his reading and screen test with co-star Dakota Johnson went reportedly well. I knew he had this in the bag. No disrespect to Alexander Skarsgard, Billy Magnussen, Luke Bracey, Theo James, Christian Cooke or Scott Eastwood, but Dornan is the ideal Christian Grey. After all, he was once dubbed the “Golden Torso” by The New York Times. Unlike Hunnam’s casting, Jamie’s addition is going well with the Twitter-verse. I’m sure the studio is breathing a sigh of relief.
If you’re still not sold on Dornan, check out a few of Jamie’s commercials and modeling photos below. If you’re still jonesing for more, be sure to check out my Model Behavior feature on the former Once Upon A Time actor. I can’t wait until August 1, 2014 when we get to see Jamie’s bare butt (and hopefully more) on the big screen. Based on the naughty Google search results, it’s going to be a must-see-event.
Years ago, Elton John revealed Justin Timberlake was his number one choice to play him in a biopic. It appears either the “Tiny Dancer” changed his mind or Timberlake wasn’t available. Variety.com just announced the actor tapped to don those rose-colored glasses for Rocket Pictures’ upcoming film Rocketman. Find out who below.
Gladiators be sure you set your digital recording devices to tape Saturday Night Live on November 2. Kerry Washington is breaking her SNL cherry that night and hosting the show for the first time. The Scandal star will be joined by SNL music veteran Eminem who returns for his sixth appearance on the show.
I can’t wait for the inevitable Olivia Pope sketch. Should be priceless. Surprisingly, Washington is only the 9th black woman to host in the show’s 39-year history. That’s such a low number considering over 750 shows have aired. Previous hosts include Oprah Winfrey, Queen Latifah, Gabourey Sidibe, Janet Jackson and Halle Berry. I believe Cicely Tyson was the first to do so back in 1978. SNL experts, please correct me if I’m wrong.
Over the weekend, Charlie Hunnam shocked everyone by quitting the Fifty Shades of Grey movie. In a released statement, the studio claimed it was due to his hectic television schedule. However, two days later, rumor has it that Hunnam couldn’t handle the pressure of the media scrutiny and rabid wild fans. He was overwhelmed with all the attention. With his departure, I wasn’t looking forward to being inundated with the casting speculation that would undoubtedly follow. With that being said, this is one rumor I hope is true.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Theo James, Christian Cooke, Alexander Skarsgard and Jamie Dornan are possible replacements. Sorry Matt Bomer fans. It appears once again the White Collar actor is out of the running.
From those on the short list, I have to say Dornan is my first choice. The sexy Irish stud is best known for being Keira Knightley’s ex and being a successful male model with high profile gigs including Calvin Klein underwear. Recently, he’s dabbled in acting, appearing on the first season of Once Upon A Time and currently starring on the BBC crime drama The Fall.
Whoever the studio and producers decide on, they have to make it official in the next couple of weeks. The film was scheduled to begin filming the first week of November. If you don’t know the hotness that is Dornan, check out several photos below and my Model Behavior feature on him.
Had I written this post yesterday as I intended, the answer to that question would be “yes.” Today though, it’s a big maybe.
While promoting the Blu-ray release of The Heat, director Paul Feig revealed that he’s working on a same-sex romantic comedy. Word got out that Channing Tatum was attached to the project. As it turns out, his casting was merely his dream casting. The film would would focus on an average guy who winds up in an relationship with someone extremely handsome, say People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive?
Reportedly, the movie was originally envisioned as a straight romcom featuring Melissa McCarthy and Jon Hamm in the lead roles. The gay version seems much more appealing, right? Find out who the Bridesmaids director has in mind to play the “average” guy below.
Looks like the search for Christian Grey is back on. After causing an uproar with his casting, Charlie Hunnam has dropped out of the Fifty Shades of Grey movie adaptation. The powers-that-be claim it’s due to his hectic schedule, but a part of me thinks something else is amiss. Could it be Hunnam just wasn’t bringing it on set? Or perhaps the studio caved to all those online campaigns to remove both Hunnam and Dakota Johnson from the film. Whatever the reason, here’s the official press release.
“The filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey,” – Universal Pictures
Personally, I liked Hunnam as Grey. Mostly because I didn’t have to read about all those annoying casting rumors. Prepare yourself for another onslaught of this actor and that actor being attached to the project. UGH. I’m also bummed we won’t get to see the Sons of Anarchy hottie getting super freaky in bed. With that hot body, we are all losing out. Check out his studliness below.
How do you follow up such critically-acclaimed movies like Monster’s Ball, Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire and The Butler? Easy. Film an action movie featuring a gay interracial couple. The 53-year-old director revealed this in an exclusive interview with OUT magazine.
The project is still in development, but Lee Daniels shared a few juicy details. He envisions it as a gay Mr. & Mrs. Smith but with two good-looking guys as the action heroes. In the end, we find out that they’re homosexuals and in a romantic relationship. Daniels also shared his intention of casting an interracial couple. One half of that crime-fighting duo would be Alex Pettyfer, who recently starred in his film, The Butler. I guess Pettyfer is his new male muse du jour, replacing Zac Efron who starred in Paperboy. Not a bad replacement if you ask me.
“Alex Pettyfer is in it, [but] I have to find the right black guy opposite him. He’s so hot, isn’t he? So hot. And so aware of his hotness in a way that’s so… I love him to death.” – Lee Daniels
Someone has a bit of a man crush, doesn’t he? Who would you cast opposite Pettyfer? Shemar Moore? Taye Diggs? Jesse Williams? Or someone else? Weigh in below, after checking out my favorite scene starring Alex Pettyfer.
Ever since Law & Order: SVU debuted 15 years ago, Richard Belzer has been a series regular. Next week, his character John Munch retires from the force. The October 16 episode will feature a goodbye to the character at his retirement party. It is reported that his character might appear in the future in a guest star capacity.
Even though SVU premiered in 1999, Belzer originated John Munch back in 1993 on Homicide: Life on the Street. Since then, his character has appeared in several crossover episodes and not just limited to Dick Wolf productions. Munch has appeared on The X Files, The Beat, Arrested Development, The Wire, 30 Rock and obviously the original Law & Order.
