how-i-met-your-mother-spinoff

The How I Met Your Mother spinoff is really starting to come together. Titled How I Met Your Dad (why not Father is a tad puzzling), the potential sitcom will follow a similar arc to the original. This time around, it’ll be told from the point of view of Sally played by Greta Gerwig. Hopefully, it doesn’t take nine seasons to find the titular character.

On the heels of Gerwig snagging the lead role, Deadline.com reports another major part has been cast. Openly-gay actor Drew Tarver scored the comedy’s LGBT character. He’ll play Todd, Sally’s best friend and roommate from college who is now marred to her brother.

We finally have a new Johnny Utah, the role immortalized by Keanu Reeves in the original Point Break directed by Kathryn Bigelow. Luke Bracey will take over the role in the highly-anticipated remake. Gerard Butler was previously announced as Patrick Swayze’s successor to play the enigmatic Bodhi.

Bracey is an Australian actor who’s best known for his role in the Aussie soap Home and Away. His biggest North American gig to date is G.I. Joe: Retaliation. This rising star has a few upcoming projects including November Man co-starring Pierce Brosnan, Me Him Her with Haley Joel Osment, American Dream opposite Nick Stahl and now this big budget remake of the 1991 classic flick.

In the original Point Break, Utah infiltrated the surfing community in order to nab a gang of violent bank robbers. In the remake, he’ll go undercover in the international extreme sports world. Ericson Core (Invincible) is on board to direct the film, which will begin shooting early this summer. Check out pics of Bracey below.

The eliminations started early this season for Dancing With The Stars. Before its 18th season, producers have replaced two of the show’s mainstays. First Harold Wheeler and his orchestra were given the boot in favor of bandleader Ray Chew and now this. Brooke Burke-Charvet who replaced Samantha Harris is the latest casualty. Her departure was announced this past weekend.

“I have enjoyed seven seasons co-hosting DWTS but understand the need for change considering the position of the show at this juncture,” said Burke “I’ve always been one to embrace change and looking forward to pursuing opportunities I previously wasn’t able to entertain because of contractual obligations to the show. I’ve seen my fair share of shocking eliminations in the ballroom but this one takes the cake.”

Jada Pinkett Smith makes her television return after her TNT series Hawthorne was axed in 2011. The 42-year-old actress is the latest to join the growing cast of FOX’s highly-anticipated Batman prequel, Gotham. Given that Halle Berry helmed a Catwoman film, one would think that Pinkett Smith would fill Berry’s tight-fitting catsuit. No such luck.

In: Donovan, Movies

There were rumblings about this back in 2009, but Harvey Weinstein has finally made it official. Anne Hathaway will play the beloved Judy Garland on the big screen.

There’s no denying Hathaway bears a striking resemblance to the Wizard of Oz actress, even though Anne is a statuesque 5’8″ while Judy was a diminuitive 5’0.” However, this will undoubtedly be a controversial decision. Hathaway is beyond talented but definitely polarizing.

“There’s no testing,” Weinstein told Howard Stern of casting Hathaway for the role. “She sung like Judy Garland for me, she sings beautifully, she has that look … I think that’ll be a good movie.” Possibly titled Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland, production is reportedly to begin this Summer.
