dwts-season-19-premiere

The premiere of any Dancing With The Stars season is my favorite. Watching which stars come out as the early frontrunners and surprise me with their dancing talent brings out my inner nerd. It’s not uncommon to see me break into a smile or clap after witnessing an endearing performance. The Season 19 kick-off was no different.

Though the cast has been criticized for not being exciting or bringing in the star wattage, I quite enjoyed the show. Not surprisingly, Alfonso Ribeiro topped the leaderboard, scoring 9s across the board. After all, he did dance with Michael Jackson as a kid and gave us ‘The Carlton’ on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. It was great his Silver Spoons co-star, Ricky Schroeder, showed his support in the audience.

The one who surprised me the most was Randy Couture. Who knew the wrestler could be so graceful? He’s my dark horse pick. Even though they have no shot in hell to win the mirrorball, both Tommy Chong and Betsey Johnson made me smile. They’re both so adorable and gave better-than-expected performances given their age. Well done. Hopefully, Johnson survives this week despite having the lowest score of the night.

Along with the aforementioned, I’m also rooting for Jonathan Bennett, Lea Thompson and Janel Parrish to do well.

Personally, I hope LoLo Jones gets the axe. She had resting bitch face the entire night after messing up her dance. In all seriousness, she was a flat out BITCH which is a shame because I like her pro, new-to-the-show Keo Motsepe. Check out her misstep below, along with all the other performances.

Cecily Strong Replaced As SNL Weekend Update Anchor

After two years co-anchoring Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update, Cecily Strong has been ousted. She will, however, remain as a regular cast member.

The 30-year-old joined Seth Meyers at the famed desk during the 38th Season and sat alongside Colin Jost last season. It appears, the big boss wasn’t happy with their chemistry or lack thereof. In a rather surprising move, Strong is the one being replaced and not newbie Jost.

“It struggled to find an identity last season… because what had come before had been pretty brilliant,” Lorne added. “This is about a new era, what feels appropriate for now. That’s why we did a lot of combinations and tests, and this is kind of where we came out.”

Chris Pratt is a hot commodity these days after powering Guardians Of The Galaxy to box office glory. Saturday Night Live wisely picked the 35-year-old actor to kick off the show’s milestone 40th Season. It’ll be his first time hosting the veteran show. Joining him as musical guest for the premiere on September 5 is Ariana Grande. Find out who’s hosting and the musical guest the following week below.

Rumors of an all-female Ghostbusters film have been swirling for some time now. Even original star Bill Murray has caught wind of this. Though he won’t star in Ghostbusters III, the 63-year-old legend shared his ideas on who those leading ladies should be during an interview with the Toronto Star. Find out who below.

Andrew Rannells is currently playing the titular transgender rocker in the Broadway revival. Production tapped the Book of Mormon star for a limited eight-week engagement after Neil Patrick Harris left after winning a Tony. Beginning October 16, Micheal C. Hall takes over until January 2015.

Production was reportedly to end after Harris’ engagement. It appears box office receipts are still doing well after his departure. The cache of winning all those Tonys is probably helping propel ticket sales.

In case you’re wondering if Hall has the chops for the role, he does. The former Dexter actor, in the past, has taken over roles in other Broadway productions including Chicago and Cabaret. For the latter, he sported some serious amounts of makeup. Check him out playing the Master of Ceremonies in Cabaret below, along with a vocal performance from the HBO series, Six Feet Under.

dwts-season-19-cast

Season 19 of Dancing With The Stars is officially underway. The cast for the upcoming season was announced by Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews (glad she’s back) Thursday morning on Good Morning America. While some of the celebrities were expected (thanks to spoilers), there were still a couple of pleasant surprises.

By far, the star I’m most excited about is The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alum Alfonso Ribiero. Can anyone say ‘The Carlton?’ The actor revealed he’d also incorporate a couple of classic Michael Jackson moves in his routines. Ribeiro starred alongside the King of Pop as a kid during a Pepsi commercial. Not only will Alfonso provide plenty of entertainment, but he’s also a viable contender. Team Carlton for the win.

The veteran reality competition show ups its fashion game this season by enlisting fashion vlogger Bethany Mota and iconic designer Betsey Johnson. The latter confirmed her signature cartwheels would be in the mix.

Noticeably missing are recent Bachelorette Andi Dorfman and American Ninja Warrior standout Kacy Catanzaro. The two were rumored to be joining the cast. Check out the entire cast below which includes a former Calvin Klein underwear model, Mean Girls alum, Olympian and wrestler to name a few. Their professional partners were also revealed.

The View Confirms New Panelists For Season 18

In: Donovan, TV Shows
rosie-perez-the-view

At long last, the new View is coming into focus. When ABC addressed Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy’s departures back in July, the network stated they would be moving in ‘an exciting new direction next season.’ They weren’t kidding.

First, word came that Rosie O’Donnell booked a return ticket to the panel after her infamous one-year stint. With less than two weeks before the talk show’s Season 18 premiere on September 15, producers have finally revealed the other two panelists sitting alongside O’Donnell and Whoopi Goldberg.

“These are powerful and accomplished women from different walks of life who have had amazing personal and professional experiences. Each brings incredible perspective and information to the table,” said Bill Wolff, the show’s new executive producer, who joined last month from MSNBC.

Producers are doubling down on ‘Rosie.’ Former Fly Girl choreographer Rosie Perez who has previously served as a guest co-host has secured a more permanent seat. Two Rosies on the panel!!! Things are about to get a little spicy. While most of the media attention focused on who’d fill the conservative seat on the panel, the Academy-nominated Fearless actress flew below everyone’s radar. I’m a fan so I approve of Perez’s appointment.

“I am beyond thrilled, honored and completely surprised that I’ve been asked to join ‘The View’,” says Perez in a statement

NeNe Leakes Set To Make Broadway Debut

In: Donovan, The Arts, TV Shows
nene-leakes-cinderella

She proved she didn’t have two left feet on Season 18 of Dancing With The Stars. In November, NeNe Leakes will have to prove she can carry a tune.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta star makes her Broadway debut in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. She’ll play the titular character’s wicked stepmother Madame. If you’ve seen Leakes during any of the RHOA reunion shows, you know she was born to play this part. NeNe has proven she has a mean streak when provoked.
