Meryl Streep To Play Another Legendary Icon

In: Donovan, Movies

Meryl Streep just can’t get enough of playing real people. She’s previously portrayed Julia Child and Margaret Thatcher on the big screen. The latter earned the 65-year-old legend another Oscar statue. One could also argue that her Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada could qualify as well given that it was loosely based on Vogue’s Anna Wintour. She’s prepping to play another legendary icon. Find out who below.

Rosario Dawson Joins Netflix’s Daredevil Series

In: Donovan, TV Shows

I’ve loved Rosario Dawson since her breakout role in the controversial Kids. Naturally, I’m beyond stoked she’s heading to Hell’s Kitchen for Netflix’s upcoming Daredevil series on a recurring basis.

Dawson is the first female character added to the superhero show. She “will play a dedicated young woman whose quest to heal the wounds of Hell’s Kitchen brings Matt Murdock unexpectedly crashing into her life, while her own journey forever alters the course of his battle against the injustices of this broken city.”

running-wild-with-bear-grylls-cast

Sounds like a wet dream come true.

NBC announced a new hour-long series titled Running Wild with Bear Grylls. The survival specialist will take celebrities into “remote and wild locations in the U.S. and around the world” for 48 hours. So far, the network has ordered six episodes.

“Running Wild allows viewers to see inside the hearts and minds of these guests in a very open, honest and vulnerable way, pushing them out of their comfort zones and seeing what they are like in real life when stripped of all the benefits of celebrity,” Grylls said in a press release. “Ultimately, this show is about taking these stars on the adventure of a lifetime and being alongside them when they discover something new and empowering about themselves and their world. For me, that is always a privilege.”

Hopefully for Bears, this new reality venture fares better than his last collaboration with NBC, Get Out Alive with Bear Grylls. While I extremely enjoyed that show, it was a little ratings challenged. Check out the cast below.

Anna Kendrick Is A Troll

In: Donovan, Movies

No, not of the heinous variety that live under a bridge. Rather, it’s those colorful big haired dolls popular with kids during the 60s and 90s.

DreamWorks Animations announced Anna Kendrick will appear in their upcoming musical Trolls playing the “relentlessly upbeat princess” Poppy. Mike Mitchell (Shrek Forever After) is directing the film set to hit theaters November 4, 2016.

“Anna has proven herself to be a brilliant actress with an amazing singing voice,” Mitchell said. “She’ll inject Poppy with the exact mix of spirit, sass and song that will no doubt give a whole new life to the iconic Troll dolls.”

The 28-year-old actress has certainly proven she’s got the pipes in Pitch Perfect. She followed that up with a wonderfully amusing stint on Saturday Night Live, singing in several skits. Upcoming music-themed projects include Disney’s musical Into The Woods and the highly-anticipated Pitch Perfect sequel.

Were you a Troll doll collector? Excited Kendrick is part of this project? Weigh in below.

colin-firth-paddington

You gotta love Colin Firth. I picture him to be a very charming lovely humorous man in real life. His recent interview indicates I’m correct with my assumption.

The 53-year-old actor has exited from the upcoming film Paddington by quoting Gwyneth Paltrow’s infamous term “concious uncoupling.” Firth was to voice the iconic loveable bear.

“It’s been bittersweet to see this delightful creature take shape and come to the sad realization that he simply doesn’t have my voice,” Colin told Empire Online. “After a period of denial we’ve chosen conscious uncoupling. I’ve had the joy of seeing most of the film and it’s going to be quite wonderful. I still feel rather protective of this bear and I’m pestering them all with suggestions for finding a voice worthy of him.”

With Paddington now temporarily silenced, producers are on the hunt to find a new voice. This sort of thing isn’t uncommon. Scarlett Johansson famously replaced Samantha Morton in Spike Jonze’s Her as did Modern Family’s Ty Burrell with Robert Downey Jr. in DreamWorks Animation’s Mr. Peabody & Sherman. It appears though that Firth’s departure is an amicable and mutual one.

jason-momoa-aquaman

Rumors of Jason Momoa joining Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice first surfaced late last year. Back then, speculation was he was either playing Doomsday or Martian Manhunter. Since then, he’s adamantly denied being in negotiations. Someone’s been lying ;) Variety.com reports he’s officially part of the cast. However, he’s taking on a different role and it’s not one that you’d expect at first.

Lifetime Picks Zendaya To Star In Aaliyah Biopic

Whitney Houston isn’t the only R&B singer’s life Lifetime plans on telling in an upcoming biopic. The network announced today Aaliyah’s short-lived career is also heading to the small screen.

Based off Christopher Farley’s bestselling biography Aaliyah: More Than a Woman, the project is tentatively titled Aaliyah: Princess of R&B. Surprisingly, it’s the first biopic about the 22-year-old phenom who tragically died in a plane crash in the 90s.

While an ANTM model was tapped to play Houston, a singer-actress has been plucked to play the “Try Again” singer. Zendaya Coleman, star of Disney Channel’s Shake It Up!, will put her acting and singing skills on display for the role. Coleman also appeared on the 16th season of Dancing With The Stars where she just missed winning and placed runner-up to Kellie Pickler. Lifetime plans to air the original movie sometime this Fall. Read the official press release below. Be sure to also check out my five favorite Aaliyah tracks here.

neil-patrick-harris-hedwig-cast

At last Sunday’s Tony Awards ceremony, Neil Patrick Harris picked up his first Tony for his show-stopping performance in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. The Broadway production also won Best Revival of a Musical, Best Performance By A Featured Actress In A Musical (Lena Hall) and Best Lighting.

With the musical doing boffo business, the originally planned limited run has been extended. Sadly, Harris isn’t sticking around for it. Find out who’s stepping into his fishnets below.
