Kyle Maclachlan Reprises Role For Twin Peaks Reboot

In: Donovan, TV Shows

Fans of the ABC 90s cult hit were ecstatic when Showtime revealed their plans to resurrect the series in 2016 for the show’s 25th anniversary. With one of the original stars officially on board, this should put them over the moon.

Kyle MacLachlan is returning to Twin Peaks to reprise his much-loved character Special Agent Dale Cooper. The news was revealed during the network’s Television Critics Association presentation on Monday, Jan. 12. Series creator David Lynch then announced it via Twitter to the delight of everyone who enjoyed the show’s first run.

Jennifer Hudson is halfway to becoming a member of the prestigious EGOT club. The Dreamgirls actress already has a Grammy and Oscar to her credit. All that’s missing are an Emmy and a Tony. It appears the latter might be a possibility sooner rather than later.

Essence magazine reports that Hudson will make her Broadway debut this year in a revival of The Color Purple. Reportedly, she’ll play lounge singer Shug Avery. Oprah Winfrey who co-produced the original will return to oversee the new production. Jennifer’s fellow American Idol Season 3 alum Fantasia Barrino played Celie during the musical’s original run. How awesome would it be if they reunited on stage for the revival.

It’s been long-rumored and now it’s official. Matt Bomer will play Montgomery Clift in the upcoming HBO biopic titled Monty Clift. If anyone can play the legendary Hollywood actor it’s Bomer. Both have the same stunning matinee good looks.

Clift was best known for his role in From Here To Eternity and his relationship with his A Place in the Sun co-star Elizabeth Taylor. During his hey day, Clift rivaled Marlon Brando and James Dean as one of Hollywood’s biggest male stars. Montgomery was one of the first actors to incorporate method acting and to refuse to sign a studio contract which was popular at the time.

“To see the kind of intense vulnerability and realism that he brought to his work at a time when that was not the style—it’s profound,” Bomer said in an interview last year. “He knew everything he was feeling inside—or if he didn’t, you wondered, why was he feeling that when the scene was this? To get to portray someone who was so formative to me as an artist would be terrifying and daunting and thrilling.”

His life was far from harmonious though. He battled alcohol and drug addiction which were amplified following a devastating car accident that left him with a broken nose and partially paralyzed face.

With Bomer on board, question is now who’ll play Elizabeth Taylor? Let’s hope it’s not Lindsay Lohan. Remember her much-maligned performance in Lifetime’s Liz & Dick. That was horrendous. Check out a shirtless pic of Clift during his prime below. Holy hottie!!!

John Travolta Lawyers Up For American Crime Story

In: Donovan, TV Shows

Welcome back Kotter!!! Or should I say John Travolta. The 60-year-old actor books his first series regular TV role since his breakout turn in the classic 1975-1979 sitcom Welcome, Back, Kotter.

Travolta just booked a gig on American Crime Story. He’ll play defense attorney Robert Shapiro on FX’s new anthology miniseries. He’ll also serve as a producer on the project.

The 10 episode miniseries, airing on FX, tells the story of the infamous OJ Simpson murder trial from the perspective of the lawyers involved. It’s based on Jeffrey Toobin’s best-selling book The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson.

He’ll join David Schwimmer, who plays another Simpson attorney, Robert Kardashian, and Cuba Gooding Jr and Sarah Paulson who’ll take on Simpson and prosecutor Marcia Clark respectively. All that’s missing from Murphy’s own version of the ‘dream team’ is who’ll play Johnnie Cochran. Have any suggestions?

What do you think of Travolta’s return to television? Weigh in below.

Totally random but inspired casting on this one. When Glee returns for its final season, we finally get to meet fan favorite Brittany’s parents. While I might’ve guessed the actress tapped to play her mom, I never could’ve predicted who the casting department picked to play the dad. It’s hilarious but fantastic. Find out below.

When I first heard Ryan Murphy was adding new characters for Glee‘s final season, I balked at the idea. I thought the last 13 episodes would be better well spent if the show focused on the familiar faces fans have loved throughout the years, ensuring they all get a proper send-off. With this casting announcement, however, I find myself changing my tune. Bring on the beef!!!

Canadian actor Marshall Williams joins the cast as Spencer, a gay “football stud” with an incredible voice. A source says his character is a man’s man, who doesn’t take sh*t from anybody. Rumor has it, he’ll be the most talked-about new character of the season.

Before landing on Disney’s How To Build A Better Boy, the 25-year-old competed on Canadian Idol and played football for the University of Manitoba. He’s also dabbled in modeling, working with Abercrombie & Fitch, Diesel, Mattel to name a few. Check out more pics (some shirtless) below, along with meeting the other new additions.

David Schwimmer Becomes A Kardashian

In: Donovan, TV Shows

No, the former Friends actor isn’t Kris Jenner’s new boytoy or dating her single daughters Khloe Kardashian or Kendall Jenner. Can you just imagine Ross Gellar popping up on Keeping Up With The Kardashians? That would be hilarious.

The Kardashian connection is due to David Schwimmer signing on to play the deceased patriarch of the family, Robert Kardashian, for Ryan Murphy’s American Crime Story.

The 10 episode miniseries, airing on FX, tells the story of the infamous OJ Simpson murder trial from the perspective of the lawyers involved. It’s based on Jeffrey Toobin’s best-selling book The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson.

Viola Davis Joins DC Comics Universe

In: Donovan, Movies

There were early rumors that Kerry Washington was being eyed, but it appears her fellow TGIT Shonda Rimes colleague beat her out. #scandal ;) Others reportedly being considered were Oprah Winfrey and Octavia Spencer.

Insiders say Viola Davis has snagged the role of Amanda Waller in DC Comics Suicide Squad. The character is a former congressional aide and government agent who sends the super villains on dangerous missions to redeem their past. She’ll join an all-star cast which includes Jared Leto (The Joker), Will Smith (Deadshot), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Tom Hardy (Rick Flag), Jai Courtney (Boomerang) and Cara Delevingne (Enchantress).

Production begins in April with an August 5, 2016 release date in mind. David Ayer directs the highly-anticipated film.

What do you think of Davis taking on the part? Hopefully, this doesn’t mean she’s leaving her hit ABC drama, How To Get Away With Murder? The show can’t survive without Annalise. Sound off below.
