Yesterday, I posted about the winners at the 2013 GLAAD Media Awards along with former President Bill Clinton’s speech. Today, GLAAD uploaded a few more videos from the star-studded event that took place at the J.W. Marriott Los Angeles at L.A. Live on Saturday, April 20.
We have Darren Criss singing “Call Me Maybe.” Before you release a collective huge groan, the Glee star performs it differently. He does it with the “original lyrics” which happen to include Prop 8, DOMA, same-sex adoption and all kinds of LGBT references. I’m curious to know why GLAAD didn’t share Kelly Rowland’s performance with us.
Next we have Chris Evans joining his openly-gay brother Scott and their mother at the podium. The family banters back and forth about familial matters. It’s cute to see the Evans brothers interact.
For the event, both Betty White and Alex Pettyfer auctioned off kisses to the highest bidder. I wonder which attendee scored a chance to plant a big wet one on the Magic Mike star. Lucky mofo. As much as you’d think Alex was the main draw, it would seem that White was the one most desired. Not only did Pettyfer steal a kiss from her, but Cloris Leachman as well. She burst onto the stage trying to tongue the Hot In Cleveland actress.
Check out all the aforementioned videos, along with clips of Harvey Weinstein and Jennifer Lawrence introducing Bill Clinton and Drew Barrymore kicking the event off.
Thought you could leave “Call Me Maybe” back in 2012? Wrong, it’s still alive and kicking in 2013 as well. At least on Jeopardy’s Teen Week it is. In the upcoming tournament, producers had a little fun with Carly Rae Jepsen’s breakout hit. They used the song’s catchy chorus as inspiration for creating categories. Pretty soon, you’ll hear a contestant asking host Alex Trebek, “I’ll take ‘This is Crazy’ for $800 please.” LOL.
I have to say, out of all the gimmicks the long-running show has done in recent years, this is certainly the most jump-the-shark worthy. Check out the categories below, along with Trebek revealing them to the contestants in the embedded clip. I can’t wait to see the answers for each category.
Global BC News is one of the top two news stations in British Columbia, if not the top, and the whole team from the TV station just revealed a holiday-themed “Call Me Maybe” lip-dub that they made and it’s definitely worth checking out.
I know you’re probably thinking, not another one… but this is the first I’ve seen done by a news station and not only is it very well done, it looks like they had an absolute blast doing it. Watch for my friend Peter dressed in a sailor’s hat during the part where they are in the digital studio. The video even wraps up with the whole crew doing a bit of “Gangnam Style” in the parking lot.
The video was actually shot on Halloween (as you’ll notice by all the costumes) and was made for their Shaw Christmas Party which took place this past Saturday… and they won. The video was filmed over a copule hours on Halloween morning. Not surprisingly, it was raining that morning so the staff got soaked when filming the “Gangnam Style” part in the parking lot.
Last night, the 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards took place in Frankfurt, Germany with host Heidi Klum. Some of the presenters included Lana Del Rey, Alicia Keys, Ludacris, David Hasselhoff, and Kim Kardashian, who actually tripped and almost fell when she walked out.
Rihanna and Taylor Swift had received the most nominations with six and five nods respectively, but it was Swift who walked away with Best Female, Best Live and Best Look and Rihanna walked away empty handed. For the boys, it was Justin Bieber that came out on top and won the same amount as Swift, taking the Best World Stage, Best Pop and Best Male.
Carly Rae Jepsen and Psy were one of the many performers at the show. Jepsen earned two awards, one of which was Best Song (presented by Kim Kardashian) for “Call Me Maybe,” while Psy took the award for best video for his worldwide hit, “Gangnam Style.” Check out the full list of winners below.
If her year hadn’t been successful enough already, Canada’s own Carly Rae Jepsen has just been named Billboard’s “Rising Star” Of 2012. The singer/songwriter will be presented with the award at the Billboard Women in Music event on November 30 in New York City. What a whirlwind of a year!
“As a singer-songwriter having grown up listening to and being influenced by countless female artists, I am truly honored to be recognized by Billboard with this award,” says the “Call Me Maybe” singer in a statement. “I hope to inspire others through my music the way those artists have inspired me.”
The Billboard Editorial Director, Bill Werde explained why she was the right choice for this honor, saying, “Carly Rae Jepsen’s infectious debut single has become nothing short of a pop culture phenomenon, leading to unprecedented viral fanfare. Few artists have achieved this level of success this early in a career. We are thrilled to honor her extraordinary U.S. debut, and we look forward to seeing where she goes next.”
Covering Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” at this point seems a day late and a dollar short. I guess we really can’t blame Ryan Murphy too much since Jepsen’s hit blew up after Glee wrapped its third season. Gleeks would have to wait for the cast to return from their vacays to hear the show put its own spin on the Summer song of 2012.
The “Call Me Maybe” performance will appear on Glee’s Season 4 premiere this Thursday. Thanks to the network, we have a sneak peek of it a couple of days before airing on television. Singing the infectious pop song is the new, New Directions crew. With most of the club graduated, Will Scheuster’s club is certainly looking anemic. Brittany, Blaine, Tina and newcomer Wade cover the track. Not sure why Artie is sitting this one out and watching from the audience, but I suppose we’ll find out later this week. Check out the video below.
Another day, another Carly Rae Jepsen “Call Me Maybe” parody. This one’s a little different though as it’s Sesame Street’s “Cookie Monster” that’s singing the song.
When I first pushed play, I wasn’t sure if I could endure it the whole time because Cookie Monster doesn’t have the most pleasant sounding voice. That being said, the lyrics of his song “Share It Maybe” totally made up for it. Set in an office, Cookie monster sees cookies and wants his coworkers to share with him singing, “Hey, me just met you, and this is crazy, but you got cookie so share it maybe”. LOL.
The song hit number one on the iTunes singles chart and Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart in June and has been parodied by so many gays, celebrities, sports teams, and now puppets/muppets. We had the pleasure of meeting Carly Rae Jepsen a few days ago. Anyway, enjoy the video below and “Share It Maybe”!
On Friday afternoon, Donovan, Nic and myself went and checked out SFP 2012 (Summer Playland Festival) here in Vancouver to catch Carly Rae Jepsen live. It’s finally getting hot here in Vancouver so what better way to spend a hot summer day that to watch Carly Rae Jepsen sing “Call Me Maybe,” the summer song of 2012. Well, the song of 2012 pretty much.
After the crowd continuously shouted “Carly, Carly,” she finally came out and kicked off her set. She probably sang about ten songs in total. Some songs were from her current ‘Curiosity‘ EP, including the title track, “Talk To Me” and “Both Sides Now“, while others were older or unreleased tracks from her upcoming album. And yes, of course she ended off her set with “Call Me Maybe” which the crowd went crazy for.
After the show, we got to meet Carly backstage and she thanked us for all for the support in all the coverage on our site, which was really sweet of her! She also told Donovan she like his hat (haha). Anyway, we had a fantastic time and she’s as lovely in person as she is on screen or in your ears. Check out some of the photos below.
