There is no denying that despite vocal complications and cancelling a few tour dates, Adele had an amazing 2011. She proved herself during countless live performances and with award nominations including a handful of Grammy nods. Now, Rolling Stone just made Adele’s life even sweeter by naming her track Rolling In The Deep the best single of 2011. In a list comprised of 50 tracks that were released this year, Adele topped the list of heavy hitters. Rolling Stone calls it “a breakup scorcher to beat all breakup scorchers.” Here’s more:
This is brokenhearted music that makes you feel like taking on the world – crackling with quiet menace in the intro, then slowly building to that gut-punch refrain of “We could have had it all!” How did such an old-school soul song dominate the charts next to Gaga and Katy Perry? Maybe it’s the hint of hip-hop venom you hear amid the blues-steeped storminess when Adele tells her ex-lover she’ll “lay your shit bare.” Maybe it’s that certain emotions – especially when channeled through a voice this powerful – will always seem timeless.
Adele isn’t the only female singer to hit the list. She joins the likes of Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and Beyoncé in the top ten alone. Check out a few more of Rolling Stone’s 50 Best Singles of 2011 below.

How I missed this Britney Spears morsel last week is beyond me? On Spears’ 30th birthday, fansite BreatheHeavy.com gave Brit’s fans a gift in the form of new music. I should’ve probably air quoted “new” since the track seems more like leftover scraps from a previous studio album rather than new material. Still, if you’re a fervent Spears fan… any new material is music to your ears.
“This is a girl who stays strong through the toughest of times, yet continues to carry on with a positive attitude and inspires millions of people around the world. She is truly my favorite artist and gives me strength and passion for craft. Britney gave me this song ‘Love 2 Love U’ several years ago, and am very happy to be able to share it with fans today. Happy Birthday, Brit. We love ya.” – BreatheHeavy.com
“Love 2 Love U” is heavily inspired by Madonna’s huge 1987 hit, “La Isla Bonita“. Not only does it sample the beat, but also borrows heavily from the song’s lyrics. Madge’s version was island-inspired, and so is Brit’s. Her take seems to be more Caribbean-infused though. I guess, Brit was listening to a lot Rihanna, Sean Paul and Sean Kingston at the time. Check out the previously unreleased track below.

I have to preface this article by saying that this mash-up is UNREAL. At the end of every year, we expect to hear a mash-up courtesy of DJ Earworm throwing together all of the top songs we listened to throughout the past 12 months. However, a new mash-up surfaced on social media yesterday that beat Earworm to the punch and I have to say, it’s definitely being added to my playlist ASAP.
Compiled by Mashup-Germany with a video edited by Panos T, the track is four minutes of pure musical ecstasy. There are literally too many moments for me to pinpoint which are my favorite. Britney’s Till The World Ends is pretty prevalent throughout the entire song along with Adele’s Rolling In The Deep but you still have room to fit in every other song you were addicted to from January to December.
If you’ve never heard of Mashup-Germany, you should check out some of their other amazing mixes like their Top Of The Pops 2010 and my personal favorite Hey Jude, I’ll Be There. Oh ya, their Rolling In Sweet Dreams which is an Adele and Eurythmics collision is also pretty sick. Check out their current year end offering below.

Every year, Bing releases it’s list of the top searched celebrities through their search engine and the 2011 list has arrived (despite the fact that December hasn’t even happened yet). I thought I’d know who the celebrity would be in an instant and to my surprise, it was my second guess. Just to refresh you, here was last year’s list.
This year, I thought for sure that Kim Kardashian would have retained her spot at #1 especially after all the drama surrounding her divorce to Kris Humphries. However, Ms. Kardashian fell short of the top spot and ended up only at #2. So, which famous face do people search for the most? Check it out below.

That list also includes the likes of Lady Gaga, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez and any other pop star. According to the latest rumor mill, those ladies won’t be filling up their dance cards anytime soon. For the 54th annual Grammy Awards, the academy is reportedly switching things up and blocking top pop stars from entering the Dance category. For the past several years, female pop stars have dominated the category with the likes of Rihanna and Lady Gaga winning Best Dance Recording Grammys in 2011 and 2010 respectively for “Only Girl (In The World)” and “Poker Face” respectively.
Though no official announcement has been made, several Academy members have confirmed the new policy when a supposed leaked list of nominees surfaced. On that rumored list, none of today’s pop stars were included. The reason behind the Academy’s policy change is to make way for true electronica and dance artists. This way, musical acts like Benny Benassi, Calvin Harris, Afrojack, Skrillex and similar musicians have a better chance of being honored and walking away with a golden Gramophone.

Yesterday, a celebrity surpassed Google CEO Larry Page as the most followed person on Google+. After four months since the new social network’s launch, it doesn’t seem to have become “a thing”. I do have a personal page and recently also created business profiles for both of my businesses (Homorazzi and Masc), now that they have made business pages available, but it just doesn’t seem to be catching on very fast. In fact, last week, The Times reported U.S. traffic to Google+ has dropped in 11 of the 21 weeks since its launch, regularly falling between 10% and 20% from one week to the next.
A few months ago, Google+ launched their “celebrity acquisition” plan, following in the footsteps of Twitter and Facebook. Now one celebrity is taking the lead in the number of people that are circling him/her. Find out who it is below.

In the music industry, women are pitted against each other all the time in a game of “she said / she said”. This is partially to do with their ego and partially to do with the tabloids making matters worse. Either way, people seem to love the drama and controversy of it all. I came across a video uploaded a couple days ago by Rich Juzwiak (the arts writer at The Daily and blogger at fourfour.typepad.com) has put together clips from interviews where one diva has talked trash about another. It’s absolutely amazing. The one rule for the video is that the person speaking in each clip must have been talked about in the preceding clip. It’s interesting to see how they all come together.
One major source of drama was definitely Mariah Carey. Whether it’s the former rivalry between her and Whitney Houston, Madonna, Christina Aguilera, or even Jennifer Lopez, Mimi seemed to be at the center of it all. Another rivalry I forgot about was between Janet Jackson and Madonna. In one of the clips, Janet is asked how her music compares to Madonna’s, and she responds: “It’s dance music, I’ll say that… which is very similar. I think… How do I put this? I think what I do has class to it. I’ll say that.”
The montage even features more current rivalries such as a more media driven, Lady Gaga vs. Christina Aguilera. Enjoy the video below and stay on Mariah’s good side!
