Last night, the second Britney Spears-themed episode for Glee aired, aptly titled “Britney 2.0″. The episode followed the downward spiral of Brittany S. Pierce as her grades slipped, she got cut from the Cheerios, and she quits Glee Club after a trainwreck lipsync performance.
The episode was full of hilarious lines and obvious parallels between what Britanny was going through and what Britney Spears went through when she had her big meltdown. Everything from shaving her head and attacking a paparazzo with an umbrella, to her epic trainwreck performance of “Gimme More“. The comparison was complete with the Cheetohs, the giant coffees…and someone screaming, “Leave Britney alone!”
I thought it was hilarious, but a friend of mine on my Facebook felt otherwise and I can see her point. She wrote, “I don’t want to be the negative one but while I loved the music I found the making fun of the meltdown offensive. Britney Spears was probably suffering from a mental illness, so mean to poke fun of. Also the cheeto and overeating part….. I thought Glee was about acceptance and anti-bullying, I was dissapointed.”
What do you think- sas Glee bullying Britney with this content? Share your thoughts in the comments after you re-watch all of the performances below.
As a celebrity and being in the public eye, a quote or two of yours is bound to be taken out of context, especially in the power of media and editing. But more often than not, celebrities who would expect to say dumb or random things are usually the ones who get caught with their foot in their mouths. The other while perusing Twitter, I came across a link to stupid celebrity quotes and being curious, I looked.
Take Arnold Schwarzenegger for example. The former governor once said to the press about marriage equality, “I think gay marriage is something that should be between a man and a woman.” If you don’t see anything wrong with that, read it a few more times and I’m sure you’ll begin to chuckle to yourself. Arnold isn’t the only offender. Check out a few of my favorite stupid celebrity quotes below.
It’s Britney, bitch. Or in this case, Brittany S. Pearce. Everyone’s favorite Cheerio has the enviable task of performing Spears’ dance hit “Hold It Against Me” for Glee’s second tribute episode to the pop singer. Brittany is accompanied by new HBIC cheerleader Kitty and the entire squad. They bust out some serious dance moves, complete with props being thrown. In the end, only one Cheerio will remain. Any guesses on who?
Since the first Spears-themed episode garnered the show’s second highest ratings ever, it only makes sense another hour-long show filled with The X Factor judge’s music was made. I’m sure FOX and Ryan Murphy have high hopes that “Britney 2.0” spike the Nielsen numbers once again.
Other Britney numbers being covered in the episode include “Gimme More“, “Oops!…I Did It Again“, “Womanizer“, “3” and “Everytime“. Two mashups featuring Brit’s songs will also air. Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend” and ‘N Sync’s “U Drive Me Crazy” are mixed with Spears’ “Boys” and “(You Drive Me) Crazy” respectively.
You can also look forward to a few familiar faces showing up on this week’s episode. In terms of last year’s graduating students, both Puck and Santana make their Season 4 debut. Faculty members Principal Figgins and Emma Pillsbury also pop up for the first time since last season’s finale. Check out Brittany’s “Hold It Against Me” performance below.
I’ve said in the past that I was done with all of the singing shows because there were too many for me to keep up with, but like many bandwagon jumpers, I watched The X Factor last night and absolutely loved it. I laughed, I cried, and I can’t wait until the next episode (to check out the performances from last night, check out Donovan‘s recap here) Britney Spears was amazing as a judge and I actually loved Demi Lovato as well – she was very witty and I quite enjoyed her. Also, the backstage drama with that self-absorbed blondie judging everyone around her was also quite entertaining. She was introduced to Karma once she stepped on stage.
Anyway, last night, Simon Cowell and Britney Spears stopped by ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live‘ for quite a lengthy interview talking all things X Factor. Jimmy Kimmel didn’t hold back on anything, even bringing up the fact that Khloe Kardashian is rumored to be the host and how he thinks she’d be a trainwreck. Cowell disagreed, and actually revealed that there will be two hosts. If that’s the case, it is even more likely that Khloe is one of them.
Before their time was up on the show, Britney and Simon played The Newly X-Game (a play on The Newlywed Game) where they were quizzed on how much they know about each other. Watch all of the Britney goodness below!
Simple answer, a resounding “YES“. It was heaps better than last year’s clunky premiere. That said, there were a few moments in the middle that I snoozed off and got a little bored. A few more amazing auditions would’ve been nice, but overall it was a good combination of emotional backstories, trainwrecks and delusional fools. A good start to X Factor Season 2.
What I noticed immediately was how Simon Cowell was no longer front and center. It was definitely the Britney Spears and Demi Lovato show, with the “Toxic” singer dominating the first hour and the “Skyscraper” one shining in the second half. While Brit received all the top billing and the majority of pre-show hype, I have to say Demi was the surprise of the night. She was adorable, engaging and her chemistry with Cowell is phenomenal. The way they playfully bicker (in a non creepy way) is entertaining. Almost like a big brother, little sister type of relationship. How he constantly teases her or warns her to stay away from Niall who’s a member of his money-making machine, One Direction- it was all working. My only criticism for Spears and Lovato is their makeup. Britney needs better foundation, while her younger colleague needs to not cake so much on her face.
As much as I love the new additions to the panel, my favorite change for Season 2 has to be all the backstage footage. Without Steve Jones to awkwardly interview contestants, we receive a more candid look at what goes on behind the scenes. Without a host asking them questions to their face, contestants have to be careful what they say. You never know who’s watching or taping your conversation. Perfect example, that heinous snooty beyotch Kaci Newton. She probably had no idea all her eye rolling was going to give her the bitch edit. LOL. Check out all of last night’s auditions and montages with my commentary below.
On Tuesday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the infamous X-Factor judges Simon Cowell and Britney Spears stopped by to promote the show.
In the following clip, Ellen asks Britney about how she had tweeted about wanting to learn the ‘Gangnam Style’ dance. Ellen then surprised Britney and said she had someone here that was going to teach her. Who you ask? None other than Psy himself! Britney was completely shocked but then was totally game to learn the dance with Psy and Ellen. “Dress classy and dance cheesy,” said Psy about the dance. Britney looked hot, but while dancing she reminded me of a fembot from back when she was in Austin Powers. Luckily, her head didn’t explode this time.
Love Britney. Love Psy. Love Ellen. What a combination! Check out the awesome clip below and be sure to tune in on Tuesday (today) to watch the whole segment!
The X Factor’s highly-anticipated Season 2 premiere finally airs this week. Feels like forever since Simon Cowell announced Britney Spears and Demi Lovato were joining the show. Even though NBC is trying to thwart its success by airing a third episode of The Voice at the same time as X Factor’s premiere, I’m definitely checking out Brit’s debut and watching Christina Aguilera and company spin around in their swivel chairs later in the evening. It’s Britney versus Christina all over again.
Truth be told, I think three days of The Voice is too much. NBC is silly for airing another edition of the show so soon after the Spring edition and three nights in a row for the premiere week is overkill. Too much of a good thing, if you ask me. Remember the over-saturation of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire on ABC back in 2000. I digress.
Since X Factor is finally here, I decided to pit the two new female judges in the fashion boxing ring against each other. Let’s face it, women are held under a magnifying glass with regards to their outfit choices. I’ve gone through Spears and Lovato’s wardrobe during the audition cities and posted them below, sharing my thoughts on who won the fashion crown in each city and gave an overall winner. See if you agree with my choices. If not, I’d love to hear where I went wrong ;)
Every year at the end of summer, MTV hosts the Video Music Awards, all an out spectacle celebrating the best music videos of the past year. Each year the VMAs turn out some of the most exciting and theatrical performances.
With this year’s awards show airing tonight, I decided to compile a list of my personal favorite VMA performances. Keep in mind I have a thing for female artists, drama, powerful voices, and train wrecks.
