Every year at the end of summer, MTV hosts the Video Music Awards, all an out spectacle celebrating the best music videos of the past year. Each year the VMAs turn out some of the most exciting and theatrical performances.
With this year’s awards show airing tonight, I decided to compile a list of my personal favorite VMA performances. Keep in mind I have a thing for female artists, drama, powerful voices, and train wrecks.
Up until now we’ve only seen promo posters, episode pics and extended scenes from the first couple of episodes of Glee‘s fourth season. At long last, we finally have tracks from “The New Rachel” and “Britney 2.0“. Halleloo!!! Gleeks were treated to five songs thanks to a listening party via Facebook.
On the season premiere, Darren Criss takes on Imagine Dragons‘ “It’s Time”, while New Directions tackles the Summer Song of 2012, Carly Rae Jepsen’s ubiquitous hit, “Call Me Maybe“. In her Glee debut, Kate Hudson performs a mashup of Jennifer Lopez’s “Dance Again” with Lady Gaga’s “Americano“. I hear her dancing is beyond amazing during the performance.
For the second Britney Spears-themed episode in the show’s history, Brittany (Heather Morris) covers the pop princess’ stripper anthem, “Gimme More“. Meanwhile, Blaine (Darren Criss) and Artie (Kevin McHale) take on a Justin Bieber/Britney mashup of “Boyfriend” and “Boys” respectively. Also in the episode is Rachel (Lea Michele) performing “Oops!… I Did It Again” and Brittany covering “Everytime“. Unfortunately, the audio for the latter two weren’t released yet, but everything else mentioned is embedded below. Enjoy.
In the late 90s, Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears battled it out on the Billboard charts. This Fall, the two pop divas will face off against each other on television with competing reality singing shows. Before we get the Nielsen ratings for their Fall premieres, the blonds go head-to-head on newsstands everywhere. Earlier today, Patrick shared Britney Spears’ Elle October 2012 issue, and now I bring you Christina’s Lucky magazine cover.
The 31-year-old Voice judge dons denim shirts, jean vests and lace tops for her photo spread snapped by Robert Erdmann. Apparently it’s the 1980s all over again ;) Inside the issue, X-Tina discusses her new album, achieving success at an early age and her body issues. Check out her photos below, along with a few quotes. Don’t forget to vote on which former Mickey Mouse Club alum has the better October 2012 cover in our poll.
On Fame At A Young Age
“When you’re young, it’s so easy to get bull-dozed. There were these two ladies who worked at the record label who always wanted to come to fittings and dress me up like a Barbie doll. It was disgusting.”
On Stripped’s Success
“I was 21 and fearless. It was a really great turning point for me to be the artist I’d always wanted to be.”
With ‘The X Factor‘ starting in a matter of days, we’re all going to the Britney Spears fix we’ve been waiting for in her new role as a judge on the singing show. As part of the promo, expect to see her elsewhere as well, including the cover of the October issue of Elle Magazine.
In the magazine, she and Jason Trawick discuss their relationship as well. “It was kind of one of those things where she moved, like, turned around, so we were face-to-face and then…, ” says Trawick “Okay, that’s enough information, sweetie. It was sweet, just say that.” Haha.
Britney also discusses her life in the spotlight and her feelings about fashion. “I guess I’ve been under the microscope so long that I don’t even pay attention to the nonsense anymore,” she says. “I gave up getting upset about things people make up about me a long time ago.” In terms of fashion Brit says, “I love my jeans and my sweats – I’m really just a tomboy at heart. So it’s really hard for me to be like Kim Kardashian and be makeup and hair ready every time I go out of my house,” she says. “I’m not a believer in that, you know?” That being said, when she sees photos of herself, she does have occasional regrets: “When you do wear those sweats, you’re like ‘Oh God, I should step it up a notch”. Check out some photos from the upcoming issue below.
Given that the first Britney Spears-themed episode titled “Britney/Brittany” is still one of the show’s highest-rated episodes ever, it only makes sense Ryan Murphy and company film another episode centered around the “Toxic” singer’s discography. Plus, she’s now a judge on X Factor which airs just before Glee on Thursday nights, allowing FOX to promote the shizz out of it as a night dedicated to the 30-year-old singer.
Scheduled for the second episode of the fourth season, “Britney 2.0” will once again feature Brittany S. Pearce prominently. The Cheerios cheerleader is feeling depressed and will turn to her idol, Brit, for inspiration. Rumor has it, Brittany will tackle Spear’s “Everytime“. Meanwhile in New York City, Rachel gets some much needed help in her dance class. Thankfully for us viewers, that help comes in the form of hunky new stud, Brody (Dean Geyer). Miss Berry is reportedly performing a big production number of “Oops!… I Did It Again“. Check out stills from this episode below.
In contrast to the Celebrity 100 list which rates celebrities based on fame and how much they earned, this new list is strictly based on how much they earn and there are some surprises.
What is not is a surprise is that Oprah Winfrey tops the list. Forbes estimates that between May 2011 and May 2012, she earned $165 million. This is the fourth year in a row that she has topped this list. Number five is one that I didn’t see coming, but after reading where the money came from, it totally made sense. Dr. Dre brought in a whopping $130 million, but not from the recording industry. He made the money from his Beats by Dr. Dre headphones because last August, handset maker HTC paid $300 million for a 51% stake in the company, resulting in pretty much most of that $130 million for Dre says Forbes. Check out the Top 20 below and how much they each made. I’ve also included a video from Forbes commenting on the Top 5 of the list. Britney Spears made the list too!
You may be sad that summer is soon coming to an end, but you have a Britney Spears-filled fall season to look forward to with X-Factor and a new song in October!
Without being too misleading I’ll state right away that the song is actually a will.i.am song that she is featured on, as part of his upcoming album #willpower that comes out on October 15. In addition to Britney Spears, the star-studded album also features collaborations with David Guetta, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Jennifer Lopez, and more. Definitely a very highly anticipated album release.
The song that Britney is on is suitably called “Sexy Sexy” and an alleged preview of the song has made its way onto the web. Even if it’s remotely close to what we can expect from the track, we’re in for a treat. Check out the full album track list below as well as this preview (ignore the “Big Fat Bass” part at the beginning).
All the media attention has focused on Britney Spears’ debut on “The X Factor” when it returns for its second season on Wednesday, September 12. Based on the newly-released promo, it could be the much less-heralded Demi Lovato that might end up stealing the show. There were rumblings early on that the “Skyscraper” singer wasn’t afraid to butt heads with acerbic Brit judge Simon Cowell. Those rumors have been proven true as evident by the banter between the two in the new clip.
Lovato teases about Cowell’s bad breath, possible funeral attendance turn out, and being old and impatient. Surprisingly, they have great chemistry. Perhaps the producers noticed this too and that’s why they swapped Britney and Demi’s spots on the panel. Initially, Spears was seated next to Cowell for the first few audition cities. Given the amount of money Spears was paid compared to Lovato, The FOX show might get more bang for the buck with the 19-year-old singer, if she continues her playful rapport with Simon.
In another clip released by the network, the two new female judges chat about their judging styles. “I feel like my judging style is very subtle. I try to use constructive criticism,” the “Toxic” chanteuse says in the interview, but later is seen giving a sarcastic statement to another contestant, “I want to know who let you on stage.” Lovato, meanwhile, dubs herself a “happy judge” and claims that she’s “really, really honest.” Check out both videos below.
