A couple of weeks ago at the San Francisco “X Factor” auditions, Britney Spears was reunited with a former duet partner. Britney immediately recognized Don Philip the second he appeared on the stage. Now 32-years-old, Philip sang two songs with Spears back in 1999 when he was just 19. Philip had a recording contract back then, but walked away because he didn’t know how to face being gay. At his San Francisco audition, Don chose this time to come out to Britney. He told the judges the following.
“The secret I have is that I’m gay — and it’s the answer to everything,” Don stated. “It’s what’s held me back!”
Sadly for Don, he botched his audition and didn’t impress the judges with his cover of Beyonce’s “Halo“. Philip later posted on his Facebook the following in hopes that he’d get a second chance.
“Maybe simon [Cowell] will give me a second chance.. i was so exhausted could not sleep night before..and so scared to face britney thinking what to say.. Also i had been carrying this heavy burden..and i wanted to just let it out..so all day it was brewing..and 4 hours of interviews..left my voice done.. Simon give me another shot..like the past xfactor winner.. i can do it.” – Don Philip
Philip recorded two songs with Britney years ago. “I Will Still Love You” appeared on Brit’s 1999 debut album “…Baby One More Time“, while the other was never released… until now. Philip posted his other duet titled “Say What” on SoundCloud. I wonder what Spears thinks about this oldie hitting the internet after all these years. Check it out below.
We may have to wait until September 12 to see The X Factor US back on the boob tube but luckily, fans and newcomers to the show have been graced with a multitude of spoilers, audio snippets, pictures and videos from the behind-the-scenes of the show’s touring audition call. Recently, Access Hollywood caught up with 3 of the 4 judges backstage and was able to capture a few Q and A’s with the three stars.
I have to start off by saying Britney Spears looks stunning during this on-camera interview and she looks very comfortable asking questions about her judging style. She responds to whether or not she is a hard or fair judge and what she thinks of Simon’s judging style. The beautiful Demi Lovato states she isn’t afraid to tell it like it is and won’t smile if a performer is doing a bad job. And last but not least, LA Reid admits that Britney’s star power intimidates him and that Demi has become his best friend for life. How sweet! Check out their on-camera, backstage interview with Access Hollywood below and tell us if you’ll be watching this season.
Last night, Jamie Lynn Spears performed at 3rd & Lindsley in Downtown Nashville, singing a song she wrote and dedicated to her sister, Britney Spears. As you can expect, the video surfaced online almost instantly and it’s worth watching / listening to.
Before she starts singing, she thanks everyone for being there and only gets a mediocre cheer. Regardless, she starts the song. The song is called, “I Look Up To You” and the lyrics speak to Britney getting thrown into super fame at such a young age, and how she pushed through despite all of the hardships and sacrifice of her childhood. Even though they’re famous, I believe everyone has their own hardships and sacrifices and fame doesn’t equate to happiness. With money of course things are easier, but not necessarily better.
Watch the 21-year-old’s performance below. She is expected to release her debut album sometime this year.
I have to admit, when Britney Spears’ name was being thrown around as a potential judge on the second season of “The X Factor”, I wasn’t a fan. Yes, I like Brit’s songs but having her judge a singing competition just didn’t seem right. I also feared that Britney wouldn’t be able to keep up with Simon Cowell’s barbs and handle the pressure of a live audience hanging off her every word. Could she formulate witty, insightful and constructive feedback on demand? Based on initial audio from the auditions held in Austin, Texas, I would say “yes”.
In several clips from the tryouts, Britney comes off as charming, likeable, playful and even hard-nosed in certain instances. From mispronouncing names, to comparing a contestant to Alvin and the Chipmunks, Spears sounds ready to play the game. At certain points, she even channels a former judge and utters Paula Abdul-isms. You know those “magical” and random comments Paula made infamous. Then at another time, she comes to the defense of fellow judge Demi Lovato when a contestant disses Lovato.
Who’s this new and improved Britney. If she keeps getting comfortable in her new role, I foresee Britney stealing the second season of “The X Factor“. Check out several audio clips below where Spears doles out the disses and praises.
If FOX and Simon Cowell were looking for fireworks when they hired Britney Spears for the second season of “The X Factor“, they certainly got what they wished for. On her first day on the job, Britney was involved in a feud with a fellow judge and also walked away from the panel at one point. Drama, drama, drama.
Firstly, let’s discuss a disagreement with Britney and fellow freshmen judge Demi Lovato. In an audio obtained by the Hollywood Reporter, the two female judges butted heads regarding one of the contestants. Naturally, it was over a boy. Not just any boy, but a 14-year-old singer who Spears thinks could be bigger than Justin Bieber. Demi starts off by critiquing the boy.
“I think that you have a great voice and your tone was great,” Lovato, 19, says. “But, I don’t really know where you fit. I don’t know what’s going to set you apart from other musicians who are boys. So, I think you just have to find out what makes you special and what separates you from all the other teenage boys in this industry.” – Demi Lovato
The 2012 season of ‘The X Factor‘ unleashed its first promo last night during the American Idol 11 Finale. In case you missed it or want to rewatch it, I’ve included it below. Here’s what is said in the new promo: “Last fall, ‘The X Factor’ rocked America. Now, everything is about to change. Simon & L.A. welcome Demi & Britney as X Factor judges.” The text on the screen then reads, “Are You Ready?“, as the four judges walk out on stage. “What was I thinking?”, says Cowell.
“Britney Spears has done it all – she is the ultimate pop icon – and I am thrilled that she has agreed to join ‘The X Factor’” said executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz. “Nobody embodies ‘The X Factor’ more than Britney – she has shown the world what it means, how to do it and how to sustain it! Demi, like Britney, was discovered at a young age. Her ambition and drive solidifies her as one of the most popular young artists today. Now they will each get a chance to share their experiences and skills with the acts that they will mentor on ‘The X Factor’.”
I didn’t really watch ‘The X Factor’ last season (suffering from singing show overload), but will absolutely be tuning in next season for new judges, Demi Lovato and Britney Spears. Check out the first promo below.
Forbes Magazine has just revealed their “Celebrity 100” list for this year, revealing a new number one celebrity for 2012. The magazine looks at various factors when classifying the celebs, including: Wealth, TV/Radio ranking, Press ranking, Web ranking, and Social ranking.
The person who topped this list year is involved in many areas of the business and despite the image above, it’s not Justin Bieber nor is it Oprah Winfrey. I’m not surprised to see this person on the list, but I must say I’m a little surprised to see them at number one. Last year, Gaga topped the list with Oprah trailing behind in second. This year, the Top 10 list is quite different, but Oprah finds herself at number two once again.
Check out the Top 10 list below to find out who tops the list this year.
Praise Jesus. The speculation, rumors, failed negotiations and all that drama is officially over. The worst kept secret over at FOX has finally been confirmed by the network at their Fall upfront presentation today. Britney Spears and Demi Lovato are officially joining the second season of “The X Factor“. The two singers fill the vacated judging seats left by Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger. Now, we can shift our speculation on the male and female who’ll take over hosting duties.
“Britney is an unparalleled superstar. Her success in the music industry over the last two decades makes her a perfect fit for ‘The X Factor’ judging panel,” Mike Darnell, FOX’s President of Alternative Entertainment, says in a statement. “Demi has mass appeal and is beloved by her fans around the world.”
Given that the first season failed to live up to Simon Cowell’s prediction, obviously, he wanted to clean house for Season 2. Based on his replacements, he thinks appealing to a younger demographic is the way to go. If you combine Britney and Demi’s age which are 30 and 19 respectively, they equal to Paula’s age of 49-years-old. Poor Paula.
While I think Spears is a good choice for the slot, I’m not crazy about Lovato. But given Spears is costing Cowell a pretty penny ($15 million to be exact), he probably didn’t have much left in the budget for the second new judge. Ergo Demi. Personally, I would’ve loved Janet Jackson on the show with Britney. But that’s just my two cents. Check out a picture of L.A. Reid, Britney, Demi and Simon together for the first time below.
