In terms of prestige and correctly predicting the Oscars, the Screen Actors Guild Awards are one of the most important stops during the long awards season. But regarding fashion, they pale in comparison to the Golden Globes and the big event itself, the Academy Awards. Most starlets and nominees save their big couture guns for those two events. That said, any red carpet during this time is important to win over the public and also perhaps some Academy voters. At the very least, impress fashion designers by showing off your red carpet prowess. That way, you become their first choice at the next huge event.
For my SAGs fashion roundup, I picked my five best and five worst dressed actresses, along with other stars who I was on the fence. Keep in mind that fashion is highly-subjective. As I was researching who designed what dress, I found that sometimes a star would be on a best list and other times on the worst. Fashion is definitely a tricky game to manipulate.
Did you watch the 70th annual Golden Globes? Expectations were high for Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s first hosting attempt, and boy did they deliver. I had a few people over for a potluck viewing party and we found ourselves laughing throughout the three-hour ceremony. Hopefully, this is the dawn of a new era. Fingers crossed that the duo emcee the event again next year. It definitely didn’t drag with them on deck.
Equally as impressive, were the ladies on the red carpet. There were barely any fashion trainwrecks this year which is a shame since it’s fun to mock bad choices. If there was a common theme this year, it was to go simple and understated. Another big trend was long sleeves. A few ladies really worked this to perfection. Check out my Top 10 picks for best dresses at the 2013 Golden Globes below.
Can you tell we’re in the heart of awards season? On Wednesday, the People’s Choice Awards took place. On Thursday, the Oscar nominations were announced and this Sunday it’s the Golden Globes turn to take front and center. Sandwiched in between all that action were the 18th Critics’ Choice Awards.
Ben Affleck experienced heartbreak earlier in the day when the Academy snubbed him for Best Director, despite Argo earning seven Oscar nominations. What a difference a few hours make, the 40-year-old walked away with Best Directing honors from the Broadcast Film Critics Association, and Best Picture for Argo. This was Affleck’s Oscars. Clearly, the Academy is still punishing him for Gigli ;)
The big winner of the night was Silver Linings Playbook scoring Best Comedy Movie, Best Actor and Actress in a Comedy and Best Ensemble. The film’s female lead Jennifer Lawrence also nabbed a win for her role in The Hunger Games to match her Silver Linings Playbook Best Actress statue. Not only was Lawrence the critics’ darling, but she also wowed fashinistas everywhere. After a ho-hum fashion showing at the People’s Choice, girl revved it up for the Critics’ Choice. Hands down the best dressed. Check out other noteworthy fashion statements below.
At long last, we finally have our first major awards show of what promises to be a lengthy season. The 2013 People’s Choice Awards were handed out last night and as always it was pretty easy to predict. If you saw someone in the audience, chances were they were solely there to pick up their trophy. Why else would they show up, right? The Golden Globes are just a few days away.
While The Hunger Games‘ Jennifer Lawrence, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift cleaned up with regards to hardware (click here for the full list of winners), each lady placed in different categories on my fashion round-up of the 2013 PCAs. Can you figure out which one landed on my Best Dressed, Worst Dressed and On The Fence list? Keep reading below to see if you figured out my fashion tastes, along with my respective picks in each category. Be sure to leave your comments at the end of the post for your choices for who rocked it out on the red carpet and who bombed. Fashion is highly subjective after all.
Since I already revealed my Top 10 picks for Best Dressed at the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy awards, I figured it was time to share the women who didn’t impress me on the red carpet. As mentioned in that post, fashion is highly subjective and there will never be a unanimous winner or loser. That said, it’s still fun to playfully mock some of the fashion choices made by well-paid stylists. And more importantly, the stars who agreed to their suggestions.
While there were no real trainwrecks (well a couple were), all the following ladies could’ve used an extra minute during their fittings to rethink their options. Without further ado, check out my Top 10 least favorite looks from this year’s Emmys below.
As mentioned before, fashion is highly subjective. One man’s Prada loafers are another man’s workout gear. Let me just preface this post, once again, by saying I’m no fashion expert, but I like to think I have decent taste. Like they say, just like a**holes, everyone’s got an opinion and here are mine.
Overall, I have to say I enjoyed most of the gowns that made their way down the red carpet at the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. Some ladies really stepped it up, while some stayed in their fashion wheelhouse. Hey, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. On my list are a few usual suspects with a couple of surprises. If you’ve read my fashion roundups before, you probably have a good idea who made it.
Check out my Top 10 choices for Best Dressed below. Be sure to leave your comments afterwards. Agree or disagree, I love hearing feedback.
One Direction were definitely the big winners at this year’s MTV VMAs with regards to snagging the most awards. The British boy band walked away with moon statues for best pop video, best new artist, and most-shareworthy video for “What Makes You Beautiful,” beating out acts like The Wanted, Justin Bieber and Rihanna. The Bajan beauty shouldn’t be too upset, she scored the big award of the night, Best Music Video of the Year.
As with most of these things, it’s all about what people wore on the red carpet. Since it’s a music-related affair, there tend to be more fashion risks than your typical awards show. I’ve gone through all the arrivals and picked my Top 5 picks for best and worst dressed at the 2012 MTV VMAs. But before we do, can we discuss P!nk’s doppelganger?
Who knew the 32-year-old singer had a younger sister? With her new chopped blond hairdo, Miley Cyrus definitely exhibited some serious Single White Female behavior last night, channeling the “So What” singer. It’s like they went to the same salon before the event. P!nk wore a full length Stella McCartney dress, while Miley chose an Emilio Pucci sheer cutout gown. Both ladies looked great, but who did P!nk better? Cast your vote below.
I wasn’t going to let a little trip to Australia stop me from sharing my top fashion picks at this year’s Oscars. PS. How shocked are you that Meryl Streep won Best Actress? When the Oscar nominations were announced, I predicted that the Best Actress category was the one ripe for an upset. Guess I was right after all. Congrats to Queen Meryl, but I do feel badly for Viola who was the frontrunner. She was also fantastic in her role. Why couldn’t there been a tie?
Typically on Homorazzi.com, my posts, though popular (wink), don’t illicit as much controversy as Tyrell and Nic‘s Rihanna and Chris Brown posts, nor Adam‘s “Married Men” type posts. The closest thing I ever get to people yelling at me is my Award fashion posts. I’m sure a few of my choices will continue that trend. Hope you enjoy my fashion highlights.
