Logo’s third annual “NewNowNext Awards 2010” aired last night on Logo, revealing this year’s winners. The event held at the Edison Hotel in Los Angeles was hosted by Niecy Nash and Cheyenne Jackson and featured performances by Anges, Little Boots, Shontelle and Dan Black. It looked like so much fun, I’m kicking myself for not flying down to LA to cover the event. Yours truly was invited but logistically couldn’t make it happen. Next year, it’s a definite must-do on my list of events.

The NewNowNext Awards has a knack for honoring the next “big things” in the entertainment industry. From TV, music, music to print and new media. In the past, they’ve honored “True Blood”, “Leona Lewis” and “The Wendy Williams Show” long before they became pop-culture phenomenons. In their inaugural year, they featured Lady Gaga’s first ever televised performance. So who did Logo deem the next superstars?

This year’s show featured appearances by Paula Abdul, Mena Suvari (“American Beauty”), Kelly Osbourne, Peter Gallagher, Ryan McPartlin (“Chuck”), Johnny Weir (“Be Good Johnny Weir”), Aisha Tyler (“Archer”), Kristin Cavallari (“The Hills”), RuPaul (“RuPaul’s Drag Race”), Snooki and Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino (“Jersey Shore”), Janice Dickinson (“The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency”), Perez Hilton, Alec Mapa, Candis Cayne (“Nip/Tuck”), Lolene (Capital Recording Artist) and Ross Mathews (“The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”).  For a full list of categories and nominees, go to NewNowNext.com. Special appearances for the evening included: Kylie Minogue, on-camera DJ Jesus Luz, the Queens of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and site favorite, Jessica & Hunter.

UPDATE February 2010: The show is now about 5 episodes in and it gets funnier and funnier with every racist/sexist/anti PC joke it delivers. The cast was perfectly chosen and I believe will be a strong newcommer for the world of TV comedy this year!

Ok, now that I have your attention… and your anger… seriously, try this show out. From the producers of… Oh, I don’t know… let’s go with Sealab 2021 and… Space Ghost (I’m making this stuff up cause i’m way too lazy to check the facts)… comes this animated and insanely inappropriate new comedy “Archer”. [Note: After writing this article I realized that the producers were FX but once again, I'm far too lazy to go back and change my previous attempts at creator credits... so deal with it].

Based on a 007-esque ladies-man, “Archer” is the story of a nepotistically appointed undercover agent who sleeps his way- along with his trusty ping pong paddle- into hilarity. While the voice of the protagonist stud doesn’t even come close to matching up with his well-built and chiseled (I wish) avatar… the show nonetheless offers a lot of laughs for a 21 min long cartoon.
