It’s Shake-overs and Ty-overs time on America’s Next Top Model Cycle 19. Based on the title, you’d think one of the girls wanted out due to their new look. Nope. Instead it was because they had to put pasties on and pose nude with hunky new judge Rob Evans. Seriously, why any girl would opt of that challenge is beyond me. Back in May, I first shared who quit the competition, along with my comments for this week’s photoshoot, click here to check them out.
Before we get to this week’s photos, I just wanted to quickly comment how much I’m enjoying this season. I love the fact we finally have a numerical value associated with each girls performance during the week. From the challenge, to photoshoot performance, to judges’ comments and to public opinion, I like knowing what mark each girl gets. Plus, I think this cycle’s crop of girls have memorable personalities. Speaking of which, how cray cray is Victoria, the homeschooled mom-loving freak? Check out backstage pictures from this week below.
America’s Next Top Model debuted its brand new line-up last Friday, or as Tyra calls it, “Fierce Fridays“. There certainly were a lot of changes. Based on first impression, I think Banks took a step in the right direction. I’m really loving model Rob Evans and his adorable accent. Fresh blood was definitely needed on the panel and on set, plus I’m loving the social media addition. Let’s face it, fans’ viewpoints can be way harsher and bitchier than Janice Dickinson on a good day.
While the ratings were down from last Fall’s numbers, as expected with the move to Fridays, the numbers were pretty flat when compared to the Spring ratings. As it stands, the CW’s decision to move the veteran reality competition hasn’t hurt, nor helped, the show. If numbers remain steady, I fully expect a 20th cycle coming our way in the Spring.
Even though we’ve seen each contestant’s best photo from every shoot a few months ago, it’s interesting to see how the producers edit the girls. Kristin, who was an early favorite of mine, came off rather conceited and bitchy on the show. On the flip side, Kiara who I wasn’t feeling, really grew on me during the first episode. Check out the official HD pics and backstage photos from the next episode below. You’ll be surprised to discover who’s snapping the pictures this week? No, it’s not Tyra, but rather, it’s a star from another CW show. Find out who below.
It’s a brand new era for America’s Next Top Model when it returns for its 19th Cycle this week. Not only has the veteran show been banished to the wasteland this is Friday night, but it also has a brand new crew working with the wannabe models. Gone are Nigel Barker, Jay Alexander and Jay Manuel. Filling in on the panel are male supermodel Rob Evans and fashion blogger Bryanboy. On set working with the girls on the photo shoot is celebrity stylist Johnny Wujek.
The career-making grand prize has also changed. Nylon magazine has stepped in for Vogue Italia, and the $100,000 cosmetics contract is now with Smashbox and not CoverGirl. The Cycle 19 winner also lands a campaign for Nine West, model representation with LA Models & NY Model Management and most of all, becomes the face of ANTM perfume, “Dream Come True“. How ironic is it that the winner’s supermodel dreams never come true? LOL. The show even has a new catchphrase this time around, “Only One Can Be Top of The Class“.
Even with all that, the biggest change of all is allowing viewers to vote and comment on the photo shoots. That’s right, America is the newest judge on the panel. The show released the photos for public voting back a few months ago as the show was filming. It’s kinda weird knowing what the upcoming photos will look like. That said, all the eliminations and reward challenges are still a mystery.
Whether this or any of the aforementioned changes can save this sinking ship, we will soon find out at the CW upfronts come Spring 2013. Personally, I’m all about The Face with Naomi Campbell, Karolina Kurkova and Coco Rocha. Can’t wait to check that new show out on Oxygen. In the meantime, check out preview pics from ANTM’s Cycle 19 season premiere below.
After three weeks posing in various bodies of water, the ANTM Cycle 19 models finally hit dry land. Naturally, they needed some stylish shoes to walk in. Being part of the prize package this cycle, Nine West outfitted the ladies with pumps, sandals, wedges and various other footwear for this week’s photo shoot. The girls had to model through the tropical heat to appear fresh pretty and cool in their colorful footwear.
With last week’s “Dreams Come True” shoot and Nine West this week, I expect next week will be either Smashbox Cosmetics or a Nylon magazine photo spread. It’s going to be weird to not have a CoverGirl shoot or commercial this cycle. Check out the colorful campaign for Nine West shoes below. As always, I’d love to hear which girl you think rocked it out in this week’s photo shoot in our comments section below.
Since CoverGirl is no longer part of the “career-making” prize package, this week’s shoot focuses on “America’s Next Top Model’s” first fragrance- Dream Come True. Out of curiosity, has anyone ever smelled it? Does it embody the funky smell of Tyra’s pits or the smell of shattered hopes and dreams of former contestants? I’d like to know.
This week’s photo assignment has the Cycle 19 models, once again, posing in water. Tyra, I get that you’re in Jamaica (rumored international destination), but does everything have to involve a river, waterfall or an ocean? I’m sure the island nation has much more to offer, like steel drums ;) Check out the girls’ best photos below and see who has what it takes to become the newest face of the fragrance and receive the Dream Come True campaign. It’s almost as prestigious as fronting a Chanel No. 5 ad *wink*.
“Please stick to the rivers, and the lakes that you’re used to”. Such wise words from TLC. Love, love, love them. RIP Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.
It’s week nine of the competition, and we’re at an undisclosed international destination. Given last week’s river rafting shoot and this week’s waterfall location, it’s safe to assume we’re not in a fashion capital like Milan or Paris. I’m thinking Costa Rica or something in that region. It seems the budget for Cycle 19 has been slashed. Just look at the prizes.
Gone is the Vogue Italia cover and shoot. Even more shocking, the $100,000 CoverGirl cosmetics gig is also dunzo. YOWZA. Instead, the “winner” scores a $100,000 cash prize, campaigns for Nine West and Smashbox Cosmetics, a spread in Nylon magazine, an endorsement deal with ANTM perfume, “Dream Come True” and a modeling contract with LA Models & NY Model Management.
For this week, Tyra Banks snaps the Cycle 19 girls in a jungle paradise shoot under a cascade of water. There are many aspects of Banks that annoy me on the show, but when she photographs the girls, they usually turn out pretty good. The lace/shadow shoot with Krista and Allison Harvard in that bird nest immediately come to mind. See if Tyra creates magic once more with the collegiate models below.
After a couple of less-than-stellar photo shoot concepts, Tyra gives us a solid theme for Episode 8 of “America’s Next Top Model Cycle 19“. That said, on paper it sounds great, but only a handful of models actually deliver. Instead of staying afloat, most of the girls are washed up in this water-themed shoot. WAH WAH.
According to ANTM’s Facebook, the shoot is the first one abroad. Have any guesses on Cycle 19′s international destination? I’m thinking somewhere in Africa or South America based on the pics. “The girls use their bodies to tell a story about the upsets and complications of love, not only balancing on the raft but also between two men.” LOL. That’s not my description, but the official one. Who writes this stuff up for the show. I’m sure it’s Banks herself since she is, after all, a published author. Remember the literary masterpiece, “Modelland“. Check out the girls fashionable rafting expedition below and predict who gets sunk like the Titanic in our comments section.
Pop, Six, Squish, Uh uh, Cicero, Lipschitz. The girls get their best “Cell Block Tango” on this week. After getting “trashed” last photo shoot, Tyra has the models paying for their actions by locking them up in the big house. But since it’s ANTM, the Cycle 19 girls pose for glamorous mugshots instead of making license plates. It’s a mother effin’ cell block pose-off. They better be fierce or face the consequences.
Even though some of the photos look great, I feel this cycle’s shoots have been one-note. Tyra, please bring back Jay Manuel back next season. So far, I’ve only liked two of the photo shoots this cycle. Check out episode seven’s pics below.
