Previously on America’s Next Top Model, Tyrant did some stuff, some models cried, some new judges came on board, some girls cried some more, and a wannabe was given a relatively pointless title. Other than that, I have no idea. I took the Cycle off. That’s right. Tyrant’s punishment for the debacles that were Angelea’s force fed win slash re-shot ending in AllStars and then AzMarie’s brutal dismissal for refusing to booty touche in the British Invasion cycle and then firing Nigel, I just couldn’t do it anymore. After 17 Cycles of bitchy, fun, and loyal recaps, Tyrant finally wore me down with her nonsense. But I’m back! Fresh from months of blissful ANTM-free life. New boyfriend (woof!), new job (yay!), and the same snarky attitude towards the wannabes. And blessed be… we have boys and girls this year! There better be some chest hair.
Okay. Ready. I’m going to live type this reveal… clicking link now… waiting… oh GOOD LORD. There is some serious heroin crystal chic shit going on! Seriously. My first reactions:
Okay… let’s take a look at these wannabes one by one.
It’s no secret I’m obsessed with Arrow and it’s lead actor, Stephen Amell. Even before the CW premiered the superhero drama, I was smitten with Amell after seeing him as a male prostitute on Showtime’s Hung. Check out my Man Crush post I dedicated to the 31-year-old Canadian actor. Not that any of us mere gay mortals had a shot, but Stephen is officially off the market. Let the collective mourning begin.
On Arrow, Amell is quite proficient with a bow and arrow, but it appears he was victim to Cupid’s aim this time around. In a romantic sunset ceremony in the Caribbean, he wed a former contestant of America’s Next Top Model. I wonder if they met at some sort of CW mixer. Anyhoo, their wedding was officiated by a close friend on Christmas Day. This is the first marriage for both. After their nuptials, the happy couple jetted off to St. Bart’s to ring in the New Year. Find out who the lucky lady is below.
Tyra and her minions just crowned the latest model to wear the ANTM crown. Believe it or not, we’ve gone through this 19 times now. I can’t believe I’m still watching this crap. Anyhoo, I decided to rank all the America’s Next Top Model winners from worst to best. See how your list compares with mine. I’m sure we all have our favorite winners.
Why is she on the bottom of my list? Ever heard of gravity. Haha, I kid. Before you get your panties in a bunch, I have nothing against big girls. In fact, Tocarra (Cycle 3) ranks in my top ten list ANTM models of all time. My beef with Whitney is her personality, I found her to be unlikeable and fake. Most of all, I found her to be a really bad model. She only ever gave one bitchy look after another. We all knew that ANTM eventually had to crown a plus-size model, but did it have to be her.
Boy, did I get last week wrong. I thought for sure it was Kiara Belen’s time to go on America’s Next Top Model. Not only did she stay, but she ended up getting first call out (FCO). While I predicted that Nastasia might be in trouble, I didn’t expect Laura to narrowly escape elimination. I thought Laura’s Dreams Come True photo rocked. Apparently, it was too sexy. Whatever!!! Clearly, the judges had a collective brain fart. If you don’t want sexy, don’t have the models posing in skimpy white bikinis. Silly Tyra. Her photo was nowhere near as provocative as some of Calvin Klein’s fragrance ads geared towards the same demo.
Believe it or not, we’re finally at the end of Cycle 19. Typically, this is the time when the girls do their CoverGirl ad and commercials, but not this time. Smashbox Cosmetics has stepped in and so have Nine West. For the final assignment, Kiara, Leila (my favorite) and Laura pose with their pumped up kicks by Nine West. Last week’s photographer Jez Smith is back to snap the shots. This time around he gets into a bit of drama with Kelly Cutrone. I.CAN’T.WAIT. Who will out-bitch who? Check out the Nine West photos plus snaps from the dramatic final runway show below.
And then there were four. Ding dong, Kristin Kagay the self-proclaimed reformed mean girl finally hit the road. Praise Jesus. If I had to endure another episode of her whining, I might’ve lost it. It’s so unfortunate that such a pretty girl has such an ugly attitude. I wonder if she’s kept her word and not connected with any of her former model roomies. After seeing her confessionals, I’m sure none of them want anything to do with her either.
Only a couple of episodes left til we crown the Cycle 19 winner of America’s Next Top Model. Who’s got what it takes to out smize the competition. Personally, anyone but Kiara winning will be a satisfying conclusion to ANTM’s first College Edition. That said, it looks like Laura has it in the bag. As much as I’m rooting for Leila, I really don’t think they’ll give the title to someone who was previously eliminated. Do you?
Based on the episode title, who do you think is going to freak out on horseback? My money is on Leila, given she was ‘attacked‘ by a dolphin last week. Side note, first dolphins and now horses. What species will Tyrant roll out next week? Check out this week’s pictures below.
Typically the CW’s PR team releases the preview pics on Monday, but due to New York being crippled by Hurricane Sandy, the photos haven’t been made available til now. For all you readers who’ve been contacting us for them, here you go. Even Frankstorm couldn’t hold down Tyra Banks forever. Speaking of Miss Smize herself, it’s that time of the cycle where she gets behind the camera and photographs the remaining girls in black and white. Has she ever snapped them in color? And no, sepia doesn’t count. Hardcore ANTM fans help me out.
Given this cycle’s overseas destination, Kiara, Kristin, Nastasia, Laura and Leila find themselves in water yet again, for both the challenge and photo shoot. First, they pose with adorable dolphins and in some cases, very provocatively. Laura is giving major Sports Illustrated heat in her photo. Later in the episode, Tyra has the girls in cascading waterfalls. In the wise words of TLC, “Don’t go chasing waterfalls. Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you’re used to.” Wise words indeed. Check out this week’s preview photos below.
Not saying that latest America’s Next Top Model reject Brittany Brown is the best, but she definitely didn’t deserve to go before Kiara. The college hoopster needs to leave my screen immediately. I’m so over her. Like, sooooooo over her.
Who else feels a bit ripped off that Tyra didn’t reveal who was re-entering the competition last episode. The fact it was titled, “The Girl Who Comes Back” should’ve actually featured the girl who comes back. Don’t you think? Ugh, so annoying. Anyhoo, it’s so obvious Leila is coming back, especially when all the eliminated models were standing side by side. She’s clearly head and shoulders above the other girls in terms of potential.
It’s overseas destination time and the girls are heading off to Kingston, Jamaica. Seems like the CW cut Tyra’s travel budget drastically, considering Hong Kong, Morocco, Greece and Italy were the last four previous locations. I can only imagine where Cycle 20, featuring male models for the first time, will take us. Check out the photos from the next episode below.
When the CW banished America’s Next Top Model to Friday nights, many fans feared the end was near for the veteran reality show. Proving she’s a cockroach you just can’t kill, Tyra Banks isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. The network announced this week that a 20th Cycle has been ordered. Sadly though, we’ll have to wait til Summer 2013 to watch Tyra mold a whole new set of wannabe models. It’s only fitting it’s getting shuffled back to Summer, since that’s where it all began years ago.
While ratings have dipped a little due to it’s new night, they haven’t slid as drastically as many have expected. Perhaps, all of Banks’ changes help stop the bleeding. Speaking of changes, the 38-year-old implemented a whole whackload this cycle, practically reinventing the show.
Nigel Barker was swapped out for male supermodel Rob Evans, Johnny Wujek replaced Jay Manual as photo shoot director and fashion blogger BryanBoy was added to the mix. But the biggest change of all was allowing the public to vote on each model’s photo, thereby making viewers the fourth judge. If you thought the Cycle 19 changes were huge, wait til you see what she has in store for Cycle 20.
