Ratings: Betty White Golden For SNL

In: Celeb Gossip & News, Donovan, TV Shows

For anyone who said Betty White’s hosting gig wouldn’t bring in big numbers, it’s time to eat your words. The 88-year-old comic legend score Saturday Night Live their biggest numbers in 18 months, not since November 2008. That pre-election telecast featured Ben Affleck as host and David Cook as musical guest and more importantly Tina Fey as Sarah Palin with a guest appearance by Republican Presidential nominee Senator John McCain.

The former Golden Girl delivered laugh after laugh during the entire show. White seemed quite at home with the numerous lesbian jokes, sexual innuendos and the trucker talking. Adding to the hilarity of the night were the return of some of SNL’s female alums. Tina Fey, Ana Gasteyer, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Molly Shannon and Rachel Dratch all returned to their comic stomping grounds. For the Mother’s Day themed evening, all the women brought their A-game and made millions laugh with new skits and reviving some old favorites.

Betty White became the oldest person ever to host the long-running show. As mentioned in her opening monologue, she has Facebook to thank for bringing everything to fruition. Shortly after her Super Bowl Snickers commercials aired, a FB campaign began to bring the legendary actress to SNL. In the end it was worth it. This clearly was one of the best episodes in a while.

Yahoo! It’s confirmed that Betty White, 88 years old, is going to be on SNL on Mother’s Day. Given her age, it was speculated that she wouldn’t be hosting alone – and that is correct. But – who she’s hosting with makes it all even better!

On May 8th, the hilarious Golden Girl from St. Olaf will host with the key other funny ladies of our my SNL generation: Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Maya Rudolph, Ana Gasteyer & Rachel Dratch. “Although she doesn’t have any children, she’s the mother of us all in comedy,” says SNL’s Lorne Michaels.

In: Donovan, Movies

The tagline of the movie sounds intriguing right? Do Something You’re Afraid Of. At first glance, “Dare” looks like your typical high school coming-of-age film, but as you delve further, it is anything but. The story revolves around an unlikely high school trio- the good girl, the best friend and the bad boy. The trio become entangled in situations where they push the boundaries of romance and friendship.

The film first debuted at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and became the edgy breakout film of the festival. “Dare” boasts an all-star cast, which includes Emmy Rossum, Zach Gilford, Alan Cumming, Ana Gastayer and Sandra Bernhard. Adam Salky makes his feature film directorial debut with this buzzed film. Dare opened in New York City and Los Angeles in November and last week in Philadelphia.

Here’s what some of the major publications are saying about the film.

“Surprising and dangerous.”
–New York Magazine

“Smart and edgy.”
