Based on this new development, I don’t have a whole lot of confidence going into Season 6 of True Blood. Midway through filming the upcoming season, the show replaced its showrunner. This typically isn’t the norm, especially with cable shows since they have shortened seasons. What chain of events led the network to make such a drastic change? Were things really that bad?
Season 6 will be the first without Alan Ball as showrunner. The series creator left after five years to focus on his new show, Banshee, for the network. HBO tapped Mark Hudis to fill the vacant position. His previous credits include Nurse Jackie and That 70’s Show.
In an earlier interview, Hudis revealed “It’s impossible to fill Alan Ball’s shoes… The guy’s created two massive hit shows for HBO and has on Oscar. Really, this plane is in the air, and I just want to land it safely.” I guess that plane had to conduct an emergency landing ;) Here’s the official statement SLASH publicity spin from HBO as the reason why Hudis left.
“Mark Hudis has stepped down as showrunner of ‘True Blood’ to focus on development under his overall deal with the network.” – HBO
Alan Ball is known for making TV magic. He’s the man behind some of the most cult-followed shows like Six Feet Under and True Blood. For his newest venture, he’s creating the town of Banshee were corruption and crime are the shows top billing. Critics are already posing the question, will this be Ball’s new True Blood?
The show stars the sexy Anthony Starr who becomes Banshee’s new sheriff. In an interesting twist, Lucas Hood was one of the world’s most notorious thieves. Now, he’s stacking himself up against Kai Proctor played by Ulrich Thomsen who literally runs the town through his twisted criminal activities. But, as we learn in the show’s trailer, Hood has come to Banshee for an ulterior motive.
The show also stars Trieste Kelly Dunn and Ivana Milicevic. But, one character I am really looking forward to is Job played by Hoon Lee. This action packed, physical role sees Lee as a cross-dressing femme fatale. Cinemax says “he’s got a sharp tongue and a quick wit—kind of like Banshee’s answer to Lafayette from True Blood. Job starts the series in dark, heavy make-up and draping dresses, but as events force him on the road he struggles with changing his look to blend in with his surroundings.” This skill will help keep Lucas out of harms way. I. Can’t. Wait!
The “It Gets Better” movement doesn’t seem to be slowing down. It seems every few days, a new one is being uploaded. The latest public figures to make their videos are cast members of HBO’s hit show “True Blood“. Alexander Skarsgard (Eric), Rutina Wesley (Tara), Kristin Bauer (Pam) and show creator Alan Ball filmed PSAs in support of Dan Savage’s project.
I have to admit, I’m a little surprised it’s taken this long for them to show their support. Considering “True Blood” has been labeled “The Most Gay-Friendly Show on TV” by GLAAD, I would’ve expected videos sooner. The show’s story lines often revolve around vampire rights and acceptance which often mimic the LGBT’s community’s ongoing fight. Most probably, they were waiting until the fourth season started airing. Whatever the reason, I’m glad a few of the cast are sharing their stories and inspiring LGBT youth that they’re not alone and things do get better in the future.
Check out their vids below. Kristin Bauer’s is especially heartfelt and emotional. As if I didn’t love her enough already. Her vid just endears her more to me. On the flip side Rutina Wesley’s will make you smile. It’s as if her character Tara Thornton was delivering the message.
What do I do Tuesday nights after I hit the gym, you ask? I’ve been hooked on this show True Blood on HBO who stars Anna Paquin. I’ve always had an obsession with Vampire movies so naturally I was drawn to this HBO series from the creator of Six Feet Under (another great show). FYI, if you’re not into Vampires… Jason Stackhouse is reason enough to watch this show: may-jah cutie! Here’s the synopsis from tv.com:
