TLC’s CrazySexyCool Turns 20

In: Donovan, Music

Earlier this week on November 15, TLC’s sophomore album CrazySexyCool celebrated its 20th anniversary. Insane, right? The album was certified Diamond by the RIAA, making TLC the first girl group in history to be awarded diamond status. It also sold over 23 million copies worldwide and is the best-selling album by an American girl group. It’s second only to Spice Girls’ Spice for worldwide honors.

CrazySexyCool spawned four Top 5 singles with two of them reaching No. 1 including “Waterfalls.” The issue-tackling track is their most successful, spending seven weeks in pole position and earning them a Grammy nomination for Record of the Year. It lost out to Seal’s “Kiss from a Rose.” Highway robbery, right?

In honor of this momentous occasion, I’ve embedded all the music videos from their iconic album below. I also included a track that wasn’t released as a single, but should’ve. One of these days, I swear I’m going to convince two other bitches to wear over-sized silk pajamas and go as them for Halloween ;) Best.Costume.Ever!!!

The Queen Latifah Show Canceled Once Again

In: Donovan, TV Shows
queen-latifah-show-canceled

Queen Latifah just can’t get past that two-year hump. For the second time, The Queen Latifah Show has been canceled. The daytime talk program will shut down production at the end of the year, with broadcasts ending in March. Her first talk show ran from 1999-2001.

Had it not been for a two-year deal she inked for the show, I’m pretty sure it would’ve been canceled during its freshman season. Honestly, it’s not very good. Clearly hosting a talk show isn’t in the cards for Latifah. Maybe the third time’s a charm.

In such a crowded market, it’s getting harder and harder to successfully launch a new chatfest. Katie Couric, Bethenny Frankel and countless others couldn’t do it. Hopefully, Meredith Vieira has better luck. Latifah whose real name is Dana Owens posted a note on her Facebook. Read it below.

beyonce-ring-off-7-11

People love speculating on when Beyonce’s marriage with Jay Z will end. Naturally when “Ring Off” leaked, some thought the 33-year-old singer was perhaps hinting at a split. While the new track does talks about a relationship ending, it’s actually about Bey’s mother Tina Knowles bouncing back after her divorce. Mr. and Mrs. Carter are still alive and kicking.

Of the two new tracks featured on the Platinum Edition Box Set of her multiplatinum-selling self-titled album, “Ring Off,” is more promising. I didn’t realize it had such a tropical vibe based on the snippet released the other day. Check out the track in its entirety below, along with “7/11” which also leaked.

zoolander-2-cast

Zoolander 2 is picking up steam. Deadline reports the long-awaited sequel has snagged a ridiculously good-looking actress.

Penelope Cruz is reportedly signing on to co-star opposite Ben Stiller’s dimwitted supermodel alter ego Derek Zoolander. Let’s hope she has some flame retardant outfits just in case they recreate that memorable gas station scene. No details about her role has been released.

Though not confirmed, both Will Ferrell and Owen Wilson are rumored to reprise their roles as the sinister Mugatu and Zoolander’s rival Hansel respectively. Justin Theroux, better known as Jennifer Aniston’s handsome arm candy, wrote the script for Paramount Pictures.

Are you excited for the sequel? Do you think Cruz is a good addition? Sound off below.

Another Country Music Singer Comes Out

In: Donovan, Music, Totally GAY!
billy-gilman-comes-out

Just hours after Ty Herndon came out to People and Entertainment Tonight, a fellow country music singer followed suit. Billy Gilman did it with much less fanfare. He did, however, credit Herndon for inspiring him to publicly declare his sexuality in a video posted on YouTube.

“It’s difficult for me to make this video, not because I’m ashamed of being a gay male artist, or a gay artist or a gay person, but it’s pretty silly to know that I’m ashamed of doing this knowing that I’m in a genre and an industry that’s ashamed of me for being me.” – Billy Gilman

The 26-year-old singer is best known for releasing “One Voice” in 2000 when he was just 12-years-old. He became the youngest singer to score a Top 40 hit on the country music charts. Gilman revealed he’s in a relationship for the last five months. LeAnn Rimes Cibrian, a friend of his, tweeted her support.

“@BillyGilman: MY STORY BY BILLY GILMAN: http://youtu.be/5N7MBAPZWms ” THIS is amazing @TyHerndoncom I luv you both Billy I’m proud of you #tears.

I’m crying in a damn @McDonalds restroom in VA Thx to you both @TyHerndoncom @BillyGilman #speakthetruth #LGBT #ComingOut

Check out his coming out video below. I wonder if November 20 will unofficially become the day country music singers come out as a result of Herndon and Gilman’s one-two punch? That would be kinda awesome.

greer-grammer-miss-golden-globe

Every year the Hollywood Foreign Press Association picks a spawn of Hollywood’s elite to assist on stage during the live ceremony. During the first event of the Golden Globes Awards season held at Fig & Olive in West Hollywood, Greer Grammer was named Miss Golden Globe 2015. She’s the daughter of Frasier actor Kelsey Grammer and Barrie Buckner. Kelsey dated Barrie after his first of three divorces. The 22-year-old was named after actress Greer Garson.

“I am flattered to have been chosen by the HFPA for this year’s Miss Golden Globe,” said an excited Greer. “It’s truly an honor to be included in this experience that so many incredible men and women have been a part of.”

Greer currently stars in the MTV series Awkward. She will next be seen in the upcoming An Evergreen Christmas with Naomi Judd and Robert Loggia which will be released this Christmas, and in the new season of ABC Family’s Melissa and Joey. The rising star also appeared in Life Partners with Leighton Meester and Adam Brody.

ellens-new-gardener

After an exhaustive search, Ellen DeGeneres finally hired a new gardener earlier this week. It’s about time. Her bushes were getting out of control ;)

I don’t blame the talk show host for dragging out the well-publicized search. All the sexy submissions of shirtless men have undoubtedly given the show great exposure (literally and figuratively).

Derek Yates beat everyone to snag the vacant gig left by Nick aka Bill Reilich while he’s filming Magic Mike XXL. Speaking of which, I thought production had already wrapped shooting. Oh well. I guess he’s too big to come back :) Who is Derek you ask? The 30-year-old is an actor slash model. He’s also a philanthropist who started a non-profit after his brother was killed in an accident by an impaired driver.

Check out more pics of Yates below, along with his crowning moment. Weigh in if you think DeGeneres picked the right person for the job out of the Final 3 contenders.

iggy-azalea-ellie-goulding

When you think of an Ellie Goulding track, you think of her ethereal vocals on a touching ballad or club-ready dance anthem. Clearly, there is more than meets the eye. The 27-year-old Brit has an inner gangsta lurking in that demure frame. “Bitch, I got it now,” she declares in the hook. And boy does she ever.

Heavy Crown” is absolutely brilliant. I’m surprised this isn’t the lead single off Iggy Azalea’s Reclassified due out on November 24. It’s menacing, powerful and anthemic. The juxtaposition of their contrasting styles is absolutely riveting. This needs to be the next official single. If not only to see these two lovely ladies star in the accompanying music video.

By far, this is the best new duet on Azalea’s reissue of her debut LP. “Beg For It,” featuring MØ is solid, but not nearly as refreshing as this. And don’t even get me started on “Trouble” featuring Jennifer Hudson.

That’s disappointing and mediocre on all levels. On paper, you’d think the duo would create magic. But alas not. So far, Iggy and J-Hud are 0-2 in my books with their collabos. Someone please give them a track worthy of their talents.

Thankfully, there’s “Heavy Crown.” This has massive potential to be another smash for the Aussie femcee. I’m curious to see if she can follow up her amazing breakthrough year in 2015. Ponder that thought while you check out her latest below.
