vanity-fair-2016-hollywood-issue

It’s all about girl power for Vanity Fair’s annual Hollywood Issue. Not just any women either, but Tinseltown’s fiercest actresses. Jane Fonda, Cate Blanchett, Viola Davis and Jennifer Lawrence score the prime spots on the publication’s iconic three-panel foldout.

These four women aren’t just talented and beautiful but very outspoken as well. The have all at one point this past year spoken out about the problems with Hollywood. From ageism to diversity to equal gender pay, all of them have stated their opinions. It’s a bold statement from Vanity Fair indeed. I love it.

Once again, Annie Leibovitz snapped the group picture. The famed 66-year-old photographer has helmed the shoot for all but three of the Hollywood Issue covers since the edition debuted in 1995. Check out all the past covers below, along with the full foldout from this year. Weigh in on which covers are your favorites.

Prior to Grease: Live, I had no idea who Jordan Fisher was. I’m pretty sure most of the viewers hadn’t heard of the 21-year-old actor previously either. He appeared in Disney’s Teen Beach films and ABC Family’s The Secret Life of The American Teenage. Based on last night’s performance, I predict Fisher is here to stay.

The rising talent just dropped a new single via Soundcloud. “Counterfeit” is a sultry track that shows off his vocals, especially that sexy falsetto of his. The pop track has a shot of crossing over to mainstream radio if promoted wisely. It’s very in line with what Nick Jonas and Justin Bieber are serving up these days. Give it a listen below.

the-oscars

The second round of 2016 Oscar presenters have been announced. Like the first wave, it’s all about diversity from the producers who are attempting to divert attention away from the #oscarssowhite controversy.

ABC stars Priyanka Chopra and Kerry Washington are set to hit the stage at some point, as well as Korean actor Byung-hun Lee and legendary producer Quincy Jones. Check out the entire list below.

The awards will be handed out on February 28 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, beginning at 7pm EST on ABC.

Grease Live: Huge Ratings & My Five Favorite Numbers

In: Donovan, Music

Grease was definitely the word on Sunday night. FOX’s first live musical production hit all the right notes, scoring with critics and viewers alike.

Grease: Live danced away with 12.2 million viewers and an impressive 4.3 rating among adults 18-49, beating NBC’s last two live productions. The Wiz Live and Peter Pan Live scored 11.5 million and 9.2 million respectively. It did fall short, however, of The Sound of Music Live which delivered a whopping 18.3 million viewers. FOX, though, should be very proud. The network proved you could stage a live production without making it a hate-watching event.

Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed the three-hour extravaganza. There were so many moving parts (multiple sound stages, live audience and rainy weather) to the elaborate production. FOX really set the bar high for all following live musicals. This one will be hard to beat.

According to The Wrap, Vanessa Hudgen’s standout number, “There Are Worse Things I Could Do,” was the most re-watched scene during the live telecast. While Hudgen’s Rizzo cover ranked in my Top 5, it wasn’t my favorite. Find out which scene was below.

Coy. That’s the word I would used to described the way Nick Jonas addresses his rumored romance with Kate Hudson. “A beautiful connection,” he says about Hudson. There’s no way these two haven’t hooked up. I’m sure it’s more on her end as to why he’s tight-lipped. Girl, own it and shout it out to the world. I would 😉

On Kate Hudson Rumors

Out of my best effort to respect her and her privacy, I’m not going to say if we had sex or not. But we did have a beautiful connection. Even now I have so much admiration and respect. She’s amazing.”

In addition to skirting questions about Kate, the 23-year-old talks about how he’s a huge Shania Twain fanboy, those persistent gay rumors and more to Complex magazine. Check out more pics below snapped by Gavin Bond, along with more quotes from his accompanying interview.

Who wouldn’t want to live in a town where every guy looked like Ryan Reynolds? I certainly do. Book me a one way ticket to Ryanville stat!!!

The 39-year-old Deadpool actor clones himself for Hyundai’s 2016 Super Bowl commercial. With multiple sexy Ryans running around town, it’s hard not to get distracted, which is the primary focus of the advert. The car manufacturer promotes its All-New Hyundai Elantra featuring advanced safety features like Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection.

Watch the 30-second clip below to see the safety features in work. If you’re a fan of Salt-n-Pepa and En Vogue, you’ll enjoy that their smash collaboration “Whatta Man” plays throughout the commercial.

If you can decipher that instantly, then clearly you celebrate this special day. For those who are clueless and have absolutely no idea, here’s the deal.

January 31 is Backward Day. What does that all mean? Nothing really LOL. From what I gathered, it’s a day to switch things up and try something backwards. Whether it’s walking in reverse, talking backwardly or flipping something else of your daily routine, today’s the day to experiment.

Are you considering doing something to commemorate this day? Maybe I’ll switch up my meals and eat breakfast for dinner or vice versa. Perhaps, I’ll channel 90s hip-hop group, Kris Kross, and wear my clothes backwards. Sound off below.

Netflix February 2016: New & Expiring Titles

In: Donovan, Movies, TV Shows

Another month and another whackload of changes on Netflix. Here’s a rundown of all the titles being added and expiring ones.

Without a doubt, the most anticipated new title coming February 2016 is the Full House revival, Fuller House. The next generation of Tanners heads to the streaming service on February 26. I can’t wait to see how producers address the missing Olsen twins.

Other notable titles coming include Charlie’s Angels, I Love You Phillip Morris, Jennifer 8, Cruel Intentions and the unintentionally campy romantic comedy, Armageddon. Who could forget Ben Affleck sweeping Liv Tyler off her feet as a rogue asteroid comes hurling towards Earth. Classic movie-telling at its finest 😉

With regards to departing programs, say hasta la vista to The Terminator, Sorority Row, Crocodile Dundee 2, Blue Crush, Bad Santa and Benny & Joon to name a few. Check out all the changes Netflix has in store for February 2016 below.
