Sports Stud: Fredrik Ljungberg

In: Patrick, Sports & Health, Totally GAY!

Although he retired from professional soccer/football in August of last year, I decided to highlight the incredibly sexy Fredrik Ljungberg for this week’s Sports Stud. The Swedish 36-year-old played for several different clubs over the course of his career, including the Arsenal and more recently, Japanese club Shimizu S-Pulse. He may recognize him as a model for Calvin Klein underwear, which he did from 2003 until 2007. In addition, he has represented brands such as Nike, Procter & Gamble, L’Oreal and currently represents Puma, ESPN and Pepsi.

With his accomplishments on the field and in his modelling career, over the years he’s received such titles as “Third Best Looking Male Athlete In The World” (Sports Illustrated), “Sexiest Player in the Premier league” (The Sun), and has also been nominated in various Sexiest Man In The World lists. It’s not difficult to understand why when you check out his pictures below. Enjoy!

Jason Collins may have been the first active-playing professional athlete to come out of the closet from a major sports team, but Robbie Rogers is the first openly-gay athlete to play in a game from a U.S. pro league. Collins publicly came out during off-season. Even though soccer isn’t considered one of the four major sports (basketball, baseball, football and hockey), it’s still a huge milestone in LGBT sports history.

At the age of 25, Rogers retired from the sport this past February due to the emotional toll of closeting his sexuality. However, after a few months off and plenty of support from fans and fellow players, Rogers reversed the decision, moving back to the United States from England and signing with the LA Galaxy. Sorry my Pacific Northwest friends, but it looks like I’m switching allegiances from the Seattle Sounders to the Galaxy ;)

This past weekend, he made his debut. He came off the bench during the 77th minute when the Galaxy had a commanding lead over the Sounders. Rogers was met with a thunderous applause as he walked onto the field. He ran by teammate Landon Donovan, who slapped his hand and patted him on the back as he took his position. In his first game as a Galaxy, the 26-year-old midfielder had five touches, one tackle and three completed passes in the game’s final 13 minutes. Check out a few pictures from his historic debut below.

“I’m back here kind of where I’m supposed to be. It’s crazy to me to think I stepped away from this game at 25,” he said. “I’ll sit in my bed tonight and thank God gave me the courage to do this and come back.”

There was a time I used to watch and play tennis religiously. To say I was obsessed with the sport would be an understatement. I would alter my sleeping pattern in order to watch the Australian Open live. Hardcore, right. This summer, I made it a goal to hit the courts more often. So far, so good.

Men’s Journal must’ve sensed my rekindling love for the sport again. The publication showcases the ATP World Tour’s next generation in their latest issue. After checking their tennis editorial out, I definitely need to update my Favorite Male Active Tennis Players list from 2009.

Among the fresh faces highlighted in “Hit Squad” are Belgian player David Goffin (left) and Lithuanian upstart Ricardas Berankis (right). They’re joined in the spread by the Harrison brothers (Ryan and Christian), Grigor Dimitrov, Milos Raonic and Bernard Tomic. I’m sure they all have pretty impressive “backhands” ;) Game, set and match indeed. Check out the photos snapped by photographer Theo Wenner below.

Sports Stud: Thierry Henry

In: Patrick, Sports & Health, Totally GAY!

For this week’s Sports Stud, I’ve chosen sexy soccer/football player, Thierry Henry. He’s originally from France and plays for as a striker for the New York Red Bulls in the Major League Soccer. In 2012, his salary with the Red Bulls was $5 million ($5.6 million guaranteed) and that made him the highest paid player in the MLS (even more than David Beckham), This year, his base salary went down to $3.75 million, putting him behind Robbie Keane’s $4 million base salary. That being said, with bonuses Henry remains the highest paid player with $4.35 million compared to Keane’s $4.33 million. Cha-ching!

He retired from the international football in 2010 after the 2010 FIFA World Cup. During that time, he had been nominated for FIFA World Player of the Year twice. Back in 2006, Henry was also one of the top commercially marketed footballers; he was ranked ninth in the world at that time.

Aside from his work on the field, the handsome 35-year-old has been an active spokesperson against racism in soccer/football, partially due to his own experiences. Check out his sexy pictures below.

Sports Stud: Barry Zito

In: Patrick, Sports & Health, Totally GAY!

For this week’s Sports Stud, I’ve chosen to highlight a handsome fellow from Major League Baseball who plays for the San Francisco Giants. The hottie is 35-year old Barry Zito, a pitcher for the team.

Outside of baseball, Zito plays guitar, surfs, and practices yoga. He’s done some acting and an interesting fact is that his uncle is TV actor, Patrick Duffy. Zito also founded the charity ‘Strikeouts For Troops,’ a charity that provides comforts of home and works to lift the spirits and morale of injured US Troops and offers support to military families. Zito is also and LGBT ally, having participated in the San Francisco Giants ‘It Gets Better‘ video.

A scruffy/handsome professional athlete who can sing & play guitar? Yes please! Check out some pictures and videos of Zito below.

Most Adorable NBA Bromance Or…

In: Donovan, Sports & Health, Totally GAY!

You’ve undoubtedly heard of Brangelina, TomKat and Bennifer I’m sure. There’s a new pop culture portmanteau taking over the interwebz… Linsons. Meet Jeremy Lin and Chandler Parsons aka the most adorable bromance in the NBA.

The Houston Rockets teammates have blown up on the internet with their very public displays of affection. From their secret handshake to their longing stares, everything has been documented on tumblr pages and fan fiction sites. Even though they make NBA-sized salaries, Jeremy even stayed on Chandler’s couch because his furniture hadn’t arrived yet. Like he couldn’t afford a hotel.

I don’t like to speculate on people’s sexuality, but there’s something definitely going on besides being BFFs. Jason Collins paved the rainbow way in the NBA. All the cool kids are doing it ;) If they aren’t dating, they really should. They are friggin’ adorable. I wonder how Lin’s previous BFF, former New York Knick teammate, Landry Fields, feels about losing out his buddy to Parsons ;) Check out plenty of incriminating photos below.

For folks who don’t put too much stock into Forbes’ multiple Top 10 lists, the publication’s latest rankings will have you scratching your heads. How can Tim Tebow, who recently got cut by the New York Jets after only one season, which he spent mostly warming up the bench, be the Most Influential Athlete? Definitely casts doubts on the credibility of the publication’s lists. Hopefully for Tebow though, NFL teams catch wind of this honor. Someone needs a new gig. How did Tebow land the top spot? Here’s EW.com’s explanation:

“When Stephen Master, Nielsen’s Senior Vice President of Sports, explains the methodology behind the list, which Nielsen compiled with E-Poll Market Research, it becomes more clear that “influential” is a very pliable term. Their survey asked a sample population of the United States to identify famous athletes by name and face in order to measure Awareness and Likeability Appeal, and then asked respondents to associate the jocks with key personality characteristics, like Fashionable, Good-looking, Funny… and Influential. So Influential isn’t even what’s being measured in this study; it’s the perception of being influential that’s crucial. Essentially, 29 percent of the people surveyed think Tim Tebow, whose outspoken Christianity has won him a fervent following, is Influential. (Twenty-five percent gave Michael Phelps the Influential stamp of approval, as opposed to 18 percent for LeBron James.) That perception does have some value, even if it’s a watered-down metric, especially to corporations who are trying to find the right celebrity to connect their product to a specific audience.”

Find out who Tebow topped on the list. It’s an impressive bunch that includes former Olympians, future Hall of Famers from soccer, baseball and basketball. Check them out below.

Sports Stud: Brady Quinn

In: Patrick, Sports & Health, Totally GAY!

This week I decided to tackle a football player that Donovan once included in his list of the Hottest Quarterbacks in the NFL.

The featured Sports Stud this week is Brady Quinn, backup quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks. He only just signed on as the backup to QB to Russell Wilson on April 11 of this year. The handsome football hottie has previously played for the Kansas City Chiefs, the Cleveland Browns and the Denver Broncos. Prior to that he played college football for Notre Dame. While there, he graduated with dual degrees in political science and finance.

Brady Quinn is 28 years old, 6’3 and 235 lbs… basically what I’m trying to say is, “Hello to you, big boy ;)” He’s been featured in many magazines, including Men’s Health and I’ve included some of those photos below. Enjoy!
