Sports Stud: Conor Trainor

In: Patrick, Sports & Health, Totally GAY!

With the Men’s Rugby Sevens happening here in Vancouver at BC Place, it’s only fitting that we feature one of the many hotties that are playing (trust me, it was hard to choose only one).

Today we’re featuring Conor Trainor of Team Canada. This Canadian rugby union player is from here in Vancouver where he first started playing. Trainor plays in the centers or on the wing for 15’s and prop for 7’s rugby. He was part of the Canadian squad at the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand and had a large part in bringing the gold medal to London in 2011. The 26-year-old is also an Environmental Engineer.

The last time Bryce Harper graced the cover of ESPN magazine, his ripped torso was on display for the publication’s annual Body Issue. Like most people, I prefer to see the 23-year-old in his birthday suit. However, I can’t deny he looks fantastically dapper on the current issue. The Washington Nationals player can certainly rock a suit.

In addition to channeling his inner Zoolander for the stylish editorial, Harper opens about the sport that made him a household name. In the piece titled “Sorry, Not Sorry,” he calls baseball “tired.”

“It’s a tired sport, because you can’t express yourself. You can’t do what people in other sports do. I’m not saying baseball is, you know, boring or anything like that, but it’s the excitement of the young guys who are coming into the game now who have flair. If that’s Matt Harvey or Jacob deGrom or Manny Machado or Joc Pederson or Andrew McCutchen or Yasiel Puig — there’s so many guys in the game now who are so much fun.”

“What are kids playing these days? Football, basketball. Look at those players — Steph Curry, LeBron James. It’s exciting to see those players in those sports. Cam Newton — I love the way Cam goes about it. He smiles, he laughs. It’s that flair. The dramatic.”

You know what, he’s not completely wrong. I can’t remember the last time I watched a baseball game on TV. Meanwhile, I enjoy watching basketball, hockey, soccer and tennis every once in a while. And by that, I mean the playoffs and big events. I don’t have the commitment to watch regular season play 😉 Check out more pics below snapped by Peter Hapak.

Don’t expect Maria Sharapova to become the next brand ambassador for The LA Hotel Downtown. The 28-year-old tennis player randomly dissed the decor of the hotel while talking about her failed drug test. Deflection much :)

“I know many of you thought that I would be announcing my retirement, but if I was eve going to announce my retirement, it wouldn’t be in a downtown Los Angeles hotel with this fairly ugly carpet.”

Sharapova reveals she failed a drug test taken during the Australian Open. For the past ten years, she’s been taking a medicine called Mildronate. As of January, the drug also referred to as Meldonium became a banned substance. She goes on to explain she’s began taking the medication because she had been getting sick often and was magnesium deficient. Her family also has a history of diabetes, she added.

Watch the video below to learn more about the test. If you just want to watch the hotel diss, skip to the 2:40 mark. It’s funny how no audible laughs were heard in the background.

Sports Stud: Conor McGregor

In: Patrick, Sports & Health, Totally GAY!

For this week’s Sport Stud, we’re featuring the sexy Irish MMA Fighter, Conor McGregor. The 27-year-old is from Dublin, Ireland. At this point in time, “The Notorious” is the current UFC Featherweight Champion and the former Cage Warriors Featherweight and Lightweight Champion.

Last May when Ireland had the referendum on gay marriage, McGregor spoke out and said, “We all deserve equal rights.” He explained, “We’re all human here at the end of the day — regardless of color, gender, sexuality. Any of that. It’s all meaningless. We all deserve the same rights. It just feels right to me.”

Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley Jr. face off for the third time on April 9 in Las Vegas. HBO will air the Pay-Per-View bout despite the Filipino boxer’s controversial anti-gay rhetoric about same-sex relationships. Among the more damning comments include comparing the LGBT community to being “worse than animals.” His homophobic comments motivated Nike to drop him off their endorsement roster.

The network, which is home to plenty of LGBT-friendly programming, condemns Pacquiao, calling his recent comments “insensitive, offensive and deplorable.” They reveal they have an obligation to both fighters to air the bout. No doubt an iron-clad contract is the reason why they can’t back out and also the money is probably a ‘small’ factor. Read the network’s full statement below.

Sports Stud: Matt Margetts

In: Patrick, Sports & Health, Totally GAY!

For this week’s Sports Stud, we’re featuring 28-year-old Freestyle Skier and Olympian, Matt Margetts.

Currently based in Whistler, B.C., Margetts is originally from Victoria, B.C. and seems to approach life in the same “freestyle” approach. His Instagram is hilarious, my favorite part being his #badkitty pictures where he sticks his booty out and poses as a cat, in various random locations. Meow!

Bravo Nike!!! The athletic sportswear company cut all ties with Manny Pacquiao after he made derogatory comments about same-sex couples. The Filipino boxer was on the company’s roster for more than eight years.

“We find Manny Pacquiao’s comments abhorrent,” the company said in a statement. “Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community. We no longer have a relationship with Manny Pacquiao.”

Pacquiao now joins the infamous list of former pitchmen including cyclist Lance Armstrong, running back Ray Rice, running back Adrian Peterson and sprinter Oscar Pistorius. All of which had their contracts severed after their respective controversies.
