Sports Stud: Griff Whalen

In: Patrick, Sports & Health, Totally GAY!
griff-whalen

For this week’s Sports Stud, I took a suggestion from a friend and have decided to feature a hottie from the NFL named Griff Whalen. He is a wide receiver for the Indianapolis Colts.

My friend came across him in reading about the fact that he is Vegan (and so is my friend – hence his interest in him). His wife got him into the diet after they had explored the health benefits to doing so. I find this interesting because it’s not often you hear about professional athletes that are Vegan and this case, he’s proving that it’s possible. “I feel a lot lighter, faster, quicker on the field,” He told the Indianapolis Star of the diet’s effect on his performance, something that naysayers often scrutinize heavily in the NFL when a player begins to eschew meat. “There isn’t that heavy feeling, that groggy feeling after I eat.” A vegan diet claims to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer and type 2 diabetes. It has been said that vegans live, on average, 12 years longer than their non-vegan counterparts. “It’s all been proven,” he says.

Another random fact is that he and I share the same birthday - although he’s only 24 years old… and I’m… a tad older. Check out his photos and videos below!

Another Country Music Singer Comes Out

In: Donovan, Music, Totally GAY!
billy-gilman-comes-out

Just hours after Ty Herndon came out to People and Entertainment Tonight, a fellow country music singer followed suit. Billy Gilman did it with much less fanfare. He did, however, credit Herndon for inspiring him to publicly declare his sexuality in a video posted on YouTube.

“It’s difficult for me to make this video, not because I’m ashamed of being a gay male artist, or a gay artist or a gay person, but it’s pretty silly to know that I’m ashamed of doing this knowing that I’m in a genre and an industry that’s ashamed of me for being me.” – Billy Gilman

The 26-year-old singer is best known for releasing “One Voice” in 2000 when he was just 12-years-old. He became the youngest singer to score a Top 40 hit on the country music charts. Gilman revealed he’s in a relationship for the last five months. LeAnn Rimes Cibrian, a friend of his, tweeted her support.

“@BillyGilman: MY STORY BY BILLY GILMAN: http://youtu.be/5N7MBAPZWms ” THIS is amazing @TyHerndoncom I luv you both Billy I’m proud of you #tears.

I’m crying in a damn @McDonalds restroom in VA Thx to you both @TyHerndoncom @BillyGilman #speakthetruth #LGBT #ComingOut

Check out his coming out video below. I wonder if November 20 will unofficially become the day country music singers come out as a result of Herndon and Gilman’s one-two punch? That would be kinda awesome.

ellens-new-gardener

After an exhaustive search, Ellen DeGeneres finally hired a new gardener earlier this week. It’s about time. Her bushes were getting out of control ;)

I don’t blame the talk show host for dragging out the well-publicized search. All the sexy submissions of shirtless men have undoubtedly given the show great exposure (literally and figuratively).

Derek Yates beat everyone to snag the vacant gig left by Nick aka Bill Reilich while he’s filming Magic Mike XXL. Speaking of which, I thought production had already wrapped shooting. Oh well. I guess he’s too big to come back :) Who is Derek you ask? The 30-year-old is an actor slash model. He’s also a philanthropist who started a non-profit after his brother was killed in an accident by an impaired driver.

Check out more pics of Yates below, along with his crowning moment. Weigh in if you think DeGeneres picked the right person for the job out of the Final 3 contenders.

To quote Charles Dickens, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” That certainly applies to Sean Hayes.

Last week, CBS announced it was canceling The Millers. The failed series was the second sitcom featuring Hayes to get axed in the past couple years. On the flip side, the 44-year-old actor experienced a huge life moment also last week.

Hayes tied the knot with his longtime partner Scott Icenogle. They reportedly exchanged vows in a small private ceremony at their home in Los Angeles.

Sean announced their engagement last month after dating for eight years. He made the announcement via Twitter by posting a #TBT photo of their blessed day. Congrats to the happy couple. Check out the pic below.

ty-herndon-coming-out

Ty Herndon has been a fixture in country music since the 90s with 17 Billboard hits to his credit. His last album, Lies I Told Myself, was released in 2013. One lie he was telling the world and himself was regarding his sexuality. In powerful interviews with both People and Entertainment Tonight, the 52-year-old singer comes out as a homosexual.

“I’m an out, proud and happy gay man,” the 51-year-old singer tells People. “I have made a lot of mistakes in my life. They’ve been my mistakes, and I own them. I’ve done a lot of work around forgiveness with people that I’ve hurt and people I’ve not been honest with because of my sexuality.”

Herndon has been married twice to women. He says both of his ex-wives were aware that he was gay. Ty also reveals he’s in a long-term relationship with his partner Matt who helped him come out throughout the years.

Historically speaking, country music hasn’t been the most open with ‘out’ artists but has made huge strides in recent years. One significant move was Kacey Musgraves winning top honors at the CMAs for her LGBT hit, “Follow Your Arrow.”

“Traditionally in country music, we don’t see a lot of support for the LGBT community, but that’s changing so much. Nashville is changing so much. I mean my goodness… Kacey Musgraves won Song of the Year for [the lyrics] ‘follow your arrow, wherever it points,’ and two amazing songwriters that happened to be gay wrote that song,” he tells ET.

Check out a snippet of his ET interview below which airs Thursday night.

the-andy-cohen-diaries-a-deep-look-at-a-shallow-year

Most of the excerpts I’ve read from Andy Cohen’s new book have been mostly Housewives related. If you’re not a fan of Bravo’s guilty pleasure, there are plenty of other celebrity anecdotes from The Andy Cohen Diaries: A Deep Look at a Shallow Year to enjoy.

The book is inspired by the posthumous The Andy Warhol Diaries. Cohen chronicles his adventures, ranging from vacationing with Anderson Cooper, making a cameo on Lisa Kudrow’s The Comeback, selfies with his Watch What Happens Live guests and everything in between, spanning one year beginning from September 2013.

A couple of his more interesting posts talk about Kevin Spacey. Even though general consensus and some photo evidence, including Spacey playing bongos on some man’s bare butt and cuddling with another man in another instance, seem to point to Kevin being a homosexual, the 55-year-old actor has remained mum on anything remotely about his sexual orientation.

Perez Hilton has previously urged Anderson Cooper, Jodie Foster and Spacey to come out of the closet publicly. Both Cooper and Foster have since Hilton’s speech. Not that it’s really anyone’s business, but Cohen also feels the American Beauty actor should follow suit. Read a couple of excerpts below.

jason-collins-retires

18 months ago, Jason Collins made headlines by coming out on the cover of Sports Illustrated. He became the first openly-gay man in one of the four major professional team sports to do so. Instead of facing backlash, Collins was inundated with support from fellow ballers, celebrities and politicians. His number 98 jersey, honoring slain Matthew Shepard, even became a top seller at the NBAStore.com.

The 35-year-old athlete once again uses the media outlet to make a major announcement. The Brooklyn Nets center reveals he’s leaving the league after 16 seasons. It’s only fitting he ends his career where it all began… with the Nets. Back then though, they were based in New Jersey. During his career, he also played with the Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves, Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics and Washington Wizards. Read a couple of excerpts from his letter below.

On Wednesday at the Barclays Center, I plan to announce my retirement as an NBA player. The day will be especially meaningful for me because the Nets will be playing the Bucks, who are coached by Jason Kidd, my former teammate and my coach in Brooklyn. It was Jason who cheered my decision to come out by posting on Twitter: “Jason’s sexuality doesn’t change the fact that he is a great friend and was a great teammate.”

jesse-metcalfe-busken

Back in June, photographer Stephen Busken snapped Jesse Metcalfe for a sexy black and white editorial for Flaunt magazine. The two reunite once again for an equally steamy shoot.

Not exactly sure what publication these are for or if they’re simply extra shots from their earlier spread. Perhaps, Metcalfe enlisted Busken to show casting agents he’s still as hot as ever and looking for work now that TNT canceled Dallas.

Whatever the reason, I’m glad they’re here. Jesse, as always, looks pretty damn fine. Pretty boy but with enough edge, giving him that dangerous bad boy quality. Check out more pics beow.
