Movie Review: Man Of Steel

In: Movies, Tommy D

This was the big one folks, the big super hero movie of the year. Sure we had Iron Man 3 and we’re getting Thor 2 but DC had this one last shot to make a good Superman movie, and they totally succeeded.

With the mega success of the Marvel Movie universe, DC had to really show up to the party with all their new toys to make an impact. Lately the DC movies have not been the greatest (Green Lantern) or they have been completely missing (Why haven’t we gotten a Wonder Woman?), and with Marvel kicking ass well the pressure is definitely on. *** NOTE *** I am going to keep this as spoiler free as I can k?

I’m a BIT late on this one but WHO CARES?!?

The month of May have five (count em five!!!) transformations, so you have lots to watch! Featured in may were Mynxii White, Mathu Anderson (Legend), Fade-Dra Phey, Raja & Ridge Galagher. You’re going to get a whole shit mix of looks from these video trust.

My favorites this month were Mathu Anderson who used the RuPaul method of makeup for James’ face and made him super elegant. Also, very similar to Billy B at the beginning of the series. They just love putting James in white hair.

And of course Raja who transformed James into the Drag diva DIVINE, it was absolutely astounding how good he looked.

I can’t with this. What I am about to post could very well one of the best YouTube clips that has ever been created.

We all know Mean Girls starring out favorite mess Lindsay (when she had a career), Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert & Karen, well someone has decided to do an updated Compton version and the result is pretty much youtube gold. In this version Cady Heron is from Korea when she transfers to a Compton high school. There she meets Janice and “Gaymian” played by Glee‘s Alex Newell, sees all the different cliques including the Black Barbies. All your favourite lines are in there but updated “You can’t twerk with us” “There is this one boy in my Ebonics class” and so one. I’m on my 5th time watching this in about an hour. The Halloween scene made me fall out of my chair.

Seriously you all need to take 5 minutes out of your day and watch this masterpiece. #splitsontress

Well she’s done it again. Not to be forgotten about EVER, one of the most popular Drag Race stars Manila Luzon (and friend to the blog) has release her newest music video for a cover of Murray Head’s 80 classic “One Night in Bangkok.”

Oh Tranila, staying ahead of everyone else she has created a 3D music video. Yes you gotta whip out your old blue and red glasses and watch this amazing cover. On another note, Manila is coming to Vancouver for PRIDE this year. I’ll be releasing those details soon!

Enjoy the video below!

Last year, our own very Tommy D brought us to Gotham. This year he has an exciting new adventure for Vancouver Pride. He’s sweeping us to the magical land of Oz complete with performances by Manila Luzon, Morgan McMichaels and newly-crowned Drag Superstar Jinkx Monsoon.

TFD Presents just dropped its first promo vid for the party and it’s a scorcher. Playing the role of Theodore (Dorothy’s brother) is SYTYCD Canada alum Mackenzie Green. If I included Canadian dancers on my Hottest SYTYCD Dancers List, he definitely would’ve made it, along with Nico Archambault (SIGH).

Mackenzie makes his way to OZ by dancing to Beyonce’s “Run the World (Girls)” while wearing glittery red high-tops and gingham swim trunks. It’s Dorotny’s attire but gay’d up. What else do you need for slutty season aka Pride. Check out the promo clip for Rapture: OZ below.

Film Review: Whispers of Life

In: Movies, Tommy D

Last week I had the privilege of attending the private press screening (yes I am THAT important) of the Vancouver created short film Whispers of Life at the Shangri La hotel. Short films I feel are tricky, you have to get your point across and tell a full story in a short amount of time. In the case of WoL they did it, and did it well in about 11 minutes.

Whispers of Life is a film about suicide, or even more specifically the thoughts about suicide and how it will affect the lives of the people around you. Tom (Travis Nelson) is a high school kid who finds peace on a park bench after school. One day two punks come up and start calling him a faggot and then leave him with a threat of seeing him tomorrow. When we were in high school we all know what “I’ll see you tomorrow” means from a bully. After they leave, Tom meets Charles (Patrick Gilmore) and they start up a conversation with Tom asking the question “Have you ever though about suicide?” It is here that I started to get very interested because I don’t think anyone ever real talks about it, and sometimes all you need is someone completely unbiased to has a chat with. Through his kind words and caring personality, Charles helps Tom get an idea of what the outcome would be should he kill himself.

Movie Review: Star Trek Into Darkness

In: Movies, Tommy D

We’ve finally arrived to the release date of one of the most anticipated movies of the year. It is the sequel to the mega blockbuster Star Trek a few ago, this one titled Star Trek: Into Darkness.

I didn’t know much of this movie before I stepped into the theater and I think that was the point. That seems to be happening a lot with the big blockbusters this year. Iron Man 3 was vague, as is Man of Steel, Star Trek was no different. The only thing you knew from the previews is that this movie looked epic, and it absolutely was.
