The Look: City Street Summer

In: Charge It, Fashion, Redd

The street summer look can be worn in many different ways depending on how you put each piece together. The basic components are a ballcap, a graphic tee or a tank top, denim shorts (usually folded just above the knee) and hi-top sneakers.

The ballcap is usually sports team oriented and worn with a flat brim. You know back in the day when you would curve the brim of a baseball hat? Although still popular, the flat brim style is usually preferred with this look. (Above: $25 to $45 both from

First things first, I like to stay in shape. I think it’s something that most gay men struggle with, and feel particular pressure around Pride season. Call it whatever you want, but every Men’s and Fitness magazine plugs the same thing, but calls it “Summer” or “Beach” body programs.

The guys over at have put two of their boys through a rigorous 6 week program with trainer Jeremy Foreshew who is also their latest featured bachelor. You can even follow their program along on Jeremy’s website, which is kinda cool to see exactly what these two guys are doing, and seeing their results. Keep it up guys!

Oh, and try to catch the bit about what drinking alcohol does to your body. It’s enough to make any lush shed a tear.

The Look: Summer Geek Chic

In: Charge It, Fashion, Redd

Summer usually means more social activities such as after work cocktails. Try this “Geek Chic” look for summer dinner parties or just kicking back and sipping beers at the local pub. You can go for the full look or just take bits and pieces to give it your own spin. Here are a few key items from Mr. Porter… I live for this online store right now!

How cute are these bow ties! Nowadays they’re no longer limited to dressy events… you can pair this with a nice crisp polo t to give your outfit a fun twist. (Top: Alexander McQueen Plaid Bow Tie $185 Bottom: J.Crew Selvedge Chambray Bow Tie $52)

Thirty years ago, on June 5, 1981, U.S. health agencies began tracking unusual clusters of diseases that would later be identified as the first cases diagnosed as AIDS . More than 30 million people have died of AIDS since the first five cases were recognized in Los Angeles in 1981. About 34 million live with HIV around the world.

On JUNE 5th, make a difference in people living with HIV and AIDS.

Join us in a fundraising event to Benefit the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation and support the people living with HIV/AIDS.

Behind The Cast: One Month

In: Behind The Cast, Random Reads, Redd

Even though we’ve had possibly the worst Spring ever, I think it’s safe to say that I’m loving Toronto. I’ve had the chance to venture out into different areas and the city has so much to offer. Little pockets of interesting neighborhoods, art galleries, shopping & restaurants. One month down and it’s looking good so far.

I’m also enjoying the anonymity of being new to the city. I haven’t had the chance to go out to the clubs & bars yet but I’m not in a rush to since I live here now, there will be plenty of chances to venture out into the nightlife.

This weekend, I went out and bought a few pieces of furniture to fill my semi-empty apartment like a tv stand and a dining table. Now my place feels complete and so comfortable and homey! Having lived in a small studio/bachelor apartment in Vancouver for over 6 years, I did miss certain little things like having a separate bedroom, having a real bed (I had a murphy/wall bed in my studio) & having a real dining table instead of a bar height counter to eat on.

BTC: Survived the First Week of Work

In: Behind The Cast, Redd

Day 21 of the next chapter of my life and everything seems to be going well. I’m finally settled in my new apartment and am now familiar with most of the streets in my neighborhood. I couldn’t have picked a better area to be in for the first year since it’s close to everything like grocery stores, shopping on Bloor St., restaurants on Yonge St., etc. I’m also only 20-25 minutes walking distance from work.

I survived the first week of work but the first few days was challenging. It’s gonna take me a good few weeks to really get settled in at work but I’m looking forward to it. So much to learn about managing projects from start to finish. Dani has been enjoying coming to work with me and everyone loves him. He’s adjusted very well to his new home and I’m glad I have him to keep my company.

Do you remember the days when you had to wait an entire week for your HIV test result?  That’s seven long days recalling every sexual encounter in agonizing – and graphic – detail, over and over. Thankfully, HIV testing has changed – and a new fan video produced by local guys explains how easy (and fast!) getting your results can be.

Tony Correia (of Xtra! and Foodsluts fame) is a huge fan of HIM . Last month, he called some friends together, (including local celeb Redd from to make this video explaining how rapid HIV testing for HIM’s Sexual Health Centre works.

It’s short, cute, and campy. Basically, we love it. You can view the video on the next part of the post.
