deborah-cox-covers-whitney-houston

For the upcoming Lifetime Whitney Houston biopic, the legendary singer’s life will be told but her voice won’t be heard. I assume it’s due to legal issues as to why Whit’s original recordings won’t be used. To circumvent this sticky issue, producers have enlisted Deborah Cox to cover Houston’s classic tracks.

TMZ got their sneaky little hands of Cox singing “I Will Always Love You” in the recording studio. As expected, Deborah does an impeccable job of covering the ballad. I’m sure Whit would approve. After all, the two collaborated on the underrated duet “Same Script, Different Cast.” Give Deborah’s cover a listen below and weigh in afterward.

Röyksopp & Robyn Debut ‘Do It Again’ Video

Röyksopp and Robyn are currently trekking around the world, promoting their joint EP. A group of friends and I checked out their show in Seattle last month for my birthday SLASH Seattle Pride. It was fantastic! Given their busy schedule, the video for “Do It Again” just debuted, despite the single surfacing months ago.

Shot in Mexico, the clip tells the story of desire, ecstasy and forbidden love during an impending revolution. The black and white clip was directed by award-winning Danish filmmaker Martin de Thuran. Read below what Röyksopp and Robyn told Digital Daze about their new visual.

Svein Berge from Röyksopp adds “I feel that the video in a clever way manages to emphasize one of the main themes of the song – doing something that might be considered morally wrong, and yet going through with it, fully aware of the consequences and potential repercussions. Some of these actions are driven by choice – others by necessity.” Robyn concurs, saying, “I´m pleased that, for me, the video stirs up a feeling of chaos which is what we talked about quite a bit when we wrote ‘Do It Again.’ Life takes you to a critical point and even though it might not make you happy, when it´s over, you want to go back.” Adds Röyksopp’s Torbjørn Brundtland, “Being there on these locations, the crew, the actors and the locals made it an unforgettable experience. Oh, and yes, in a good way, I might add.”

homeland-season-4-trailer

I’m still reeling from the shocking Season 3 Homeland finale, how about you? I can’t even imagine the show without Damien Lewis. The silver lining, I suppose, is with Lewis’ departure, it means there’s no more Dana (Morgan Saylor). I don’t think I could handle another season of her whining.

For Season 4, the Showtime show is going through a major reboot given Brody’s death. Most of the action takes place in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) is now assigned to a dangerous CIA station in the Middle East. New cast members Corey Stoll, Suraj Sharma, Laila Robins, and Michael O’Keefe have been added to the roster.

PS. Loving the key art above. It’s absolutely perfect given the show’s new setting and creative direction. Check out the intense trailer below.

Beyonce’s Fifty Shades Of Grey Teaser

In: Donovan, Movies, Music
beyonce-fifty-shades-of-grey

The first full trailer for Fifty Shades of Grey premieres this Thursday. Late Saturday night, Beyonce posted a video via Instagram teasing the movie adaptation of the best-selling erotic novel. Images of Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) and Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) with Bey’s seductive vocals play in the background. It sounds an awful lot like a slowed-down sexier version of “Crazy In Love.”

What does this all mean? Is Mrs. Carter providing a track for the movie soundtrack. Or even better, is she curating the entire album or recording all the songs. I guess, we’ll have to wait and see. Leave it to Beyonce to drop another huge surprise announcement. Check out the video teaser below.

wendy-williams-aaliyah-biopic

It appears Lifetime’s Aaliyah biopic is back on. The network put production on hold when Zendaya dropped out of the project. The 17-year-old actress received plenty of criticism from online haters saying she wasn’t black enough. Though vague about her decision to leave at the time of her departure, Zendaya explained her reasoning today via Instagram.

“Let me just explain something. The reason why I chose not to do the Aaliyah movie had nothing to do with the haters or people telling me that I couldn’t do it, I wasn’t talented enough, or I wasn’t black enough. It had absolutely nothing to do with that.

The main reason is that the production value wasn’t there, there were complications with the music rights, and I just felt like it wasn’t being handled delicately considering the situation.

And I tried my best to reach out to the family on my own, and I wrote a letter, but I was unable to do so; therefore, I felt not really morally okay with moving forward with the project.

With all that being said, congratulations to the new woman playing Aaliyah; I only hope she does not have to deal with half the hate that I had to deal with. And remember that we are all human beings trying to do what we love to do. Let’s practice motivation and love; not discrimination and hate. All right?” – Zendaya

Speaking of the new woman tapped to play Aaliyah, Wendy Williams revealed the lucky woman to play the “Try Again” singer. Why Williams? The talk show host has been added as an executive producer, joining Debra Martin Chase. Sounds like Wendy’s exec producer title is just a vanity one for the sole purpose of generating buzz for Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B (working title). Find out Zendaya’s replacement below.
