Beyonce Scores Sixth No. 1 Album With Lemonade

In: Donovan, Music

Clearly, the BeyHive was thirsty. They gulped down plenty of their queen’s homemade Lemonade. Beyonce’s latest album soared to the top of the chart during its first week of release.

According to Billboard, Bey served up 653,000 equivalent album units and 485,000 in pure album sales, easily topping the Billboard 200 chart. This marks her sixth studio album to reach No. 1, making her the only artist to achieve this feat with their first six studio LPs.

Lemonade scores the biggest week of any album in 2016, both in terms of overall units and in sales. Her reign will most definitely be short. Drake, who released Views From The 6 this week, reportedly sold 630,000 albums on its first day.

With Lemonade exclusively on TIDAL for the first few days, and a physical CD not available til later this week, no doubt Bey’s numbers would’ve been higher had she made her latest effort available everywhere.

In other Billboard 200 news, Prince continues to sell in the wake of his tragic death. The Very Best of Prince, which reigned supreme last week, dropped to second but still sold 391,000 units. That wasn’t the only one from his catalog to chart. In fact, he had five albums place in the top seven.

Did you purchase Lemonade or any of Prince’s LPs? Weigh in below.

Netflix is notorious for not sharing ratings with regards to their original programming. It’s safe to assume though, The Ranch is doing well. The streaming service just renewed the comedy for a second season.

The Ranch reunites That ’70s Show co-stars Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson for the Colorado-set series. Kutcher plays a semi-professional football player who returns home to help his brother (Masterson) run their family ranch. Sam Elliott and Debra Winger also star.

If you loved Aaliyah, you have to check out Yuna. While no one will ever capture the magic that was the Princess Of R&B, for me, Pharrell Williams’s protegee sounds like the late “Try Again” singer. I’m a huge fan.

Ever since I heard “Crush” featuring Usher, I’ve been obsessed. With a recently-released remix, I’m even more so. Typically, slow jams make for excellent club bangers when paired with a slinky beat.

On a side note, have you seen Usher’s racy SnapChat– the one where a smiley emoji barely covers his endowment. Google it if you haven’t. Let’s just say Ush has more talents than just his vocals 😉

Check out the Amice Remix of “Crush” below, along with the beautiful black-and-white music video for the original version.

Amazon Finds Its Jack Ryan For New Series

Four actors have previously played the fictional character created by Tom Clancy on the big screen. Alec Baldwin (The Hunt for Red October), Harrison Ford (Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger), Ben Affleck (The Sum of All Fears) and Chris Pine (Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit) have all stepped up to the plate. For me though, Ford, embodied the CIA analyst the best.

For its new series, Jack Ryan, Amazon decided to select another actor to play the titular role. Find out who below.

AlunaGeorge Reunites With ZHU For ‘My Blood’

The last time AlunaGeorge and ZHU hooked up, they delivered the fantastic “Automatic.” The two underrated acts team up again for another slick track.

Unlike their previous effort, “My Blood” slows down the pace for a more sensual hip-hop beat. Since it’s a part of AlunaGeorge’s forthcoming sophomore album instead of ZHU’s EP, it makes more sense. The overall vibe fits more with their signature sound than ZHU’s slinky club beats.

Check out the music video for the moody track below which features Aluna, once again, hanging out in her apartment. It’s a bit reminiscent of their “I Remember” visual minus the awesome giant neon pink flamingo.

It’s a busy day for Rihanna this Friday. Not only does she appear on Calvin Harris‘ new single “This Is What I Came For,” but the 28-year-old singer also assists Drake with a track off his new album, Views From The 6, out today.

Too Good” marks the fourth time Drizzy has teamed up with RiRi. Like their other collabos, “Take Care,” “What’s My Name?” and “Work,” their latest is a bona fide banger. “Too Good” probably won’t dominate the Billboard Hot 100, like “Work,” but I actually like the new song much better.

Give “Too Good” a listen below which plays on their rumored romance a wee bit. I also embedded a preview of his entire album. I’m already obsessed.

Allison Janney won four Emmy Awards for playing CJ Gregg on The West Wing. Much to the delight of the media, the 56-year-old actress relived her presidential press secretary days when she addressed the press corps at the White House on Friday.

After playfully saying some words, Janney got serious and spoke out about the opioid epidemic– heroin and prescription drug abuse. She currently stars in Mom on CBS where she plays a recovering addict. What her address below.

“This is a disease that can touch anybody and all of us can help reduce drug abuse through evidence-based treatment, prevention, and recovery,” Allison said. “Research shows it works. And courageous show it works every day.”

Colombia Legalizes Same-Sex Marriage

In: Donovan, Totally GAY!
colombia-same-sex-marriage

The predominantly Catholic country has become the fourth South American country to allow same-sex marriage. Colombia follows Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay to formally recognize rights for same-sex couples. Argentina was the first Latin American country to do so back in July 2010.

“The judges affirmed by a majority that marriage between people of the same sex does not violate constitutional order,” presiding Judge Maria Victoria Calle told the court. “The current definition of the institution of marriage in civil law applies to them in the same way as it does for couples of the same sex.”

In a 6-3 decision, the Colombian Constitutional Court declared it was unconstitutional to ban same-sex marriage. The six in favor ruled “all people are free to choose independently to start a family in keeping with their sexual orientation… receiving equal treatment under the constitution and the law.” The ruling restores benefits to same-sex couples who are already married.

“The right to marry and to form a family are fundamental rights that States must protect. Limiting marriage to heterosexual couples violates the right to nondiscrimination and equality,” said José Miguel Vivanco, Executive Director of the Human Rights Watch Americas Division. “The court’s decision to grant all Colombians, regardless of their sexual orientation, the right to marry the people they love is a landmark move for human rights in the country.”

Congrats to our fellow brothers and sisters in Colombia!!!
