We first heard of Simon Curtis back in April 2010 when Redd did a post about this brunette babes debut album which captured our 8bit Hearts. From that post on I was a fan of the man and his music. Now Simon is at it again, only this time he’s teamed up with lady counterpart Wolfy to create “Wrathschild.” Having released 4 albums between them as solo artists they decided to team up in secret back in 2012 to create this fantastic duo. For the past two years they’ve been making sweet, sweet music with producer Ray Reich and crafting a sound that’s all their own which they describe as “anthemic pop made by street kids roaming from LA to Africa to outer space.”

The pop duos first single “Fall Into Love” is set to premiere via an exclusive on on March 24th, followed by a worldwide release on iTunes, Spotify, and other digital outlets on March 31st. Simon was kind enough to send me a preview copy of the song and it’s already loaded up into the iPhone and iPod and set to repeat. The single is a radio ready pop ballad with an infusion of tribal which is clearly pop-candy perfection to my ears, think Ellie Goulding. I’m not ashamed of being a huge pop-tart fan and can’t wait to hear the rest of the magic these two have crafted together. They’re currently working without a publicist, manager, or record label but I can only imagine that won’t last for very long once “Fall Into Love” hits the music scene.

While in New York I was lucky enough to be invited by the original Drag Race winner, BeBe Zahara Benet, to her pre-release party for her new single “Face.” I was gagging the moment BeBe walked in wearing a black lace floor length dress and serving the room nothing but glamour and face. It was quite the little intimate show for friends and people who worked on the music video of Face which was nice because we actually all got to talk to BeBe throughout the night.

BeBe started the crowed off with a little back story to the upcoming album and how it’s been in the works for over a year. After a little story time with BeBe we moved into previewing a few of the songs off the album and I can safely say I was LIVING for them! There is definitely some great club thumpers on there with “I Feel It Coming” and “Eye Candy” which I can see both being big hits in the scene. My personal picks for eargasms were “Something Exciting” and “It Feels Right.” They lead away from the typical club/house and move more towards the pop/feel good sounds. “Something Exciting” just makes you wanna bop around your room in your underwear as you’re getting ready for your day and “It Feels Right” is more of a throwback to motown, folk, sunshine and butterflies sound which I really love. BeBe said it was very important for her to add in all the tribal and African influence because she is very proud of where she comes from and wanted to blend her two homes together with her music. I think BeBe’s hard work is going to pay off with this one as the album seemed to be pretty well rounded with great sounds.

After all the previews it was finally time for the premiere of the “Face” music video! The lights darkened, the room went silent and the rest was all Face from there. I can’t wait for the full album to come out, until then enjoy the official “Face” music video and the remix radio edit by Ranny.

You can get your copy of the Face EP on iTunes along with all the remixes

Oh and BeBe, your ring is getting sized ;)

You Betta Werk! Last night was the RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 6 Premiere Party in New York City Hosted by Michelle Visage at Stage 48 and my goodness it was like a glitter rainbow drag queen bomb went off! I’ve never seen so many queens assembled in one place in my entire life, it was like bearing witness to a unicorn being born. Magical. I attended the event with new gal pal Adam Barta who just dropped his new single with Margaret Cho, “See You Next Tuesday.” Adam quickly introduced me to his other date for the night, Angelina Pivarnick from Jersey Shore and we were off. The evening was quickly shaping up to be one to remember.

The event started off with a media frenzy as all the season 6 contestants took to the red carpet. Some notable fashion nods were April Carrion and Gia Gunn, those girls #werked the couture like it was still mercedes benz fashion week. Also BenDeLaCreme got the memo that we wear pink on Wednesdays, so I told her she could sit with me at lunch. Vivacious can come too since she also got the pink memo and looked fabulous. A big fashion statement was made by Magnolia Crawford who went with a traditional Muslim hijab for her red carpet look. I personally thought she looked stunning but I think it was lost on many people. Coming from Vancouver, Canada, where it’s very multicultural I love all things fashion from all walks of life but I noticed a few sideways glances for sure. The lighting was less than ideal but I still managed to snap quite a few good shots of most of the girls which you can catch on the Instagrams. The media was snapping up a storm and live tweeting like their lives depended on it. After the media free-for-all there was a meet and greet upstairs in the VIP area with all the ladies. Before I made it up stairs though BeBe Zahara, the original crowned Queen, snatch me up for a photo and I somehow lost my virginity in her weave. She said she’s having it FedEx’d over to me.

“I got fisted once… it was a very short lesbian… “Who’s your daddy?” … “Eileen?” … “That’s right bitch.” I felt like one of the muppets.” I was DYING. From that moment on, I was a fan and have been for years. Margaret Cho is one funny bitch lady. From her role on Drop Dead Diva, stint on Dancing With The Stars and appearance on 30 Rock Cho has been one busy woman.

Cho previously had a pop hit with her single “Cho I’m A Woman.” Wasting no time the Grammy and Emmy nominated comedienne is at it again and this time she’s hanging out with Billboard Top 20 dance hit maker Adam Barta. An obvious play on words, “See You Next Tuesday” (which drops TODAY) is an infectious dance ode to fun, campiness, and dance music. The two began collaborating over Twitter late last year, and are hoping for a Billboard hit. The song comes amidst a recent announcement Cho will star in 30 Rock star Tina Fey’s upcoming sitcom on Fox about a women’s college. DAMN, girl is weeeeeeerking it.

We’re taking the day off today, so we decided to repost some of our favorite Christmas-themed posts from this and previous years.

If you’re an avid reader of the site, you might’ve noticed there was a shortage of articles Sunday. Reason being was, we were all busy having our Christmas staff party. Given everyone’s busy schedules this time of year, it’s almost next to impossible to find a date that works for everyone. Surprisingly, all but three of us were able to make it yesterday. That’s a pretty amazing feat considering our busy lives and Alex, Kevin and Topher not currently living in the same city as the most of us. Check out the pic above. The only people missing from the pic are Nic (his BF’s sis was in town), Stephen (was there earlier but had to leave for another engagement) and Alex (LA) and Kevin (Toronto).

It was great to have so many of us together to laugh, catch up and reminisce about the early days of the site. Not to sound super cheesy, but there’s this amazing energy among all of us when we’re all in the same room. With our recent accomplishments, it was nice to sit back and relax for one night and pat each other on the back.

In between all the laughs and drinks, we decided to have a gingerbread contest. We split up into two different teams determined by names out of the hat. Team 1 (my team) won the right to pick either the house or the train. We opted for the train. Each team was given only 30 minutes to build, decorate, and come up with a theme for their creation. Now, we need your help to decide which team pulled it off better. Cast your votes so we can declare a winner and give one team bragging rights over the other.

THANKS again to all of you for making such a success in a short period of time. We have the best readers on the internet for sure.

Intimate Interview With Bif Naked

In: Calan, Interviews, Music

I recently had the opportunity to interview international recording artist Bif Naked on my radio show Discovering Your Truth on YTP Radio which you can check out below. For an hour we spoke all about her continual journey with cancer, past albums, pivotal moments in her career, going on tours and also her new interest in dating!

It was such a pleasure to get to spend time with a person who was so influential to my life when I was growing up. My sister who is 10 years older than me was a massive fan of Bif Naked and thus I became a fan since I was always listening to what she was listening to. I still have my I Bificus album in storage back in Vancouver.

Right now Bif is working on releasing her recently finished Memoirs book which will hopefully be hitting the shelves very soon. She describes it as a collection of short stories about her life all wrapped up together. She’s definitely a woman who’s lived a colourful life so I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy. During the interview we also touched on the subject of love, something Bif has kept out of her mind for quite some time. The shift came after she lost her beloved little Nicky (her dog) who was her whole world for so long. Now that Nicky had moved on Bif decided it was time to get back on the horse and try out dating again which is a very recent development. Throughout the interview you can hear both old and new songs from Bif and we kick things off with her song “The Only One,” which is my favourite off her new album Bif Naked Forever: Acoustic Hits & Other Delights which I highly recommend getting from iTunes. She does a great job remaking the old songs as well as a few new ones.

Movie Review: Geography Club

In: Calan, Movies, Totally GAY!

Back in October Dono did a post about the Geography Club movie trailer and it peaked my interest. Not only was it starring two very handsome men,  Cameron Deane Stewart (Pitch Perfect) and Justin Deeley (90210), but it also genuinely looked really good. I’m a bit of a gay movie junkie and love attending the VQFF every year so I’ve seen my fair share of tacky gay cinema. I’m happy to say that Geography Club was not your average cheesy bad gay movie.

Synopsis: At Goodkind High School, a group of students of varying sexual orientation form an after-school club as a discreet way to share their feelings and experiences.

British diver Tom Daley came out of the closet today via his YouTube page to tell the world he’s been dating a guy. I can already hear all the gay men squealing with joy over this news. We’ve definitely done our fair share of oogaling and drooling over this young stud muffin and now those fantasies have come true. In the video Tom discusses that he read an article where he was misquoted and it made him feel really angry and lists that as one of the reasons he decided to make the video.

“I’ve been dating girls and I’ve never really had a serious relationship to talk about and now I feel ready to talk about my relationships.

Come spring this year my life changed massively when I met someone and it made me feel so happy, so safe, and everything just feels great. And, well, that someone is a guy. And it did take me by surprise a little bit. It was always in the back of my head that something like that could happen but it wasn’t until spring this year that something just clicked…”

Tom states that he still fancies girls for now but we’ll see how that one goes. A lot of people will say “Bi now, gay later,” but I’m finding with the younger generation that it’s not so black and white anymore these days and a lot of younger people are landing more in the middle with bisexuality. In any case, I want to commend Tom for stepping out like this. We all have to remember that he’s been in the public eye since he was 16 and he’s now only 19 years old. I didn’t even come out until I was 20 and I lived in a very accepting household with no one watching so I can only imagine what it’s like for these young stars. I wish Tom all the best in his relationship and I’m glad to see he’s really happy with whoever this lucky young lad is. I’m sure we’ll soon be seeing him gracing the covers of Attitude and GT Magazine because of this news.
