Years & Years Kick Off New Era With Cinematic ‘Sanctify’ Music Video

Years & Years aren’t playing around with their sophomore era. The Olly Alexander-fronted band kicks it off in grand style. Not only is the lead single a bold new sound for the British synth-pop trio, but it comes with a beautifully-shot cinematic clip.

“I want to take people on a wild and wonderful adventure through my dreams to a world that’s very different from our own. I’ve been thinking about this place for a long time, a place to tell stories from; about identity, sexuality, celebrity and performance,” said Olly Alexander

Alexander reveals early ’00s pop served as inspiration. He describes “Sanctify” as “Britney era ‘Slave 4 U’ meets like Timbaland or Neptunes.” The accompanying visual is a dystopian affair set in Palo Santo, an imaginary society of androids who capture humans for the purpose of entertainment.
