For me, the best X-Men films have been the ones directed by Bryan Singer. As you can imagine, this bit of news put a smile on my face. Singer helmed 2000′s X-Men and its sequel X2, and produced the reboot X-Men: First Class starring Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy. Now, he’s back to direct the sequel… and he’s not coming alone.
The director confirmed via Twitter that he’s recruited two actors from his first two X-Men films. Given that 2014′s X-Men: Days of Future Past will alternate between the present and a dystopian future where mutants are living in internment camps, it makes perfect sense why some of the original cast members are coming back. But exactly who? Have any guesses? Find out below.

It’s Professor Charles Xavier and Magneto, played by the wonderfully talented actors Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen. My inner geek is jumping up and down for joy. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender play the younger versions of their characters in the 1960s- Prof X and Magneto respectively.
With Stewart and McKellen putting their old superhero outfits back on, does this mean others are returning? Singer previously revealed that Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique) and Nicholas Hoult (Beast) were reprising their X-Men: First Class characters in the sequel. Does this mean Rebecca Romijn and Kelsey Grammer return to appear in the alternate future?
Are you excited for Bryan Singer’s return to the series? How about Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen? Who are you hoping reprises their roles in the upcoming X-Men film? Sound off below.

I hope Rebecca comes back. Mystique is one of my most favorite comic book characters and I really loved Rebecca’s interpretation of her.

That’s great news :D I can’t wait till these characters meet their other version and the drama that will follow. I loved First Class and was a bit worried when they decided to tackle the Day’s of Future’s Past storyline as it can get pretty messy but those news puts me in confidence again.

I want Famke to come back!
But I know there’s no Jean in days of future past. Although I’m curious to know who he has in mind for Sprite/Shadowcat.

omg i hope this is gonna be a two part film since the comic made this story arc epic. i still remember one of the covers where they listed a bunch of mutants and it showed a bunch of the x-men listed as dead or captured or wanted. omg im really excited about this film i have high hopes for it.

Sadly I highly doubt that Rebecca Romijn-O’Connell will be joining us again, because sadly she isn’t a mutant in the “dystopian future”, due to a bad directing call by some fuckhead named Brett Ratner.

Awesome! Stewart and McKellen can do no wrong, and Singer did stellar with the first two Xmen films. The reboot film was great as well, the younger cast is strong. Can’t wait to see all of those strong elements to this franchise brought together!

i would like to see Anna Paquin (but she was made Human)… i would love to see James Marsden (but he was killed off ) , but if this is an ALTERNATE universe, that is how Patrick Stewart can be brought back from the dead !!

well cyclops was never killed off, there is actually a storyline in the x-men comics where cyclops and jean grey are in another universe and must survive without there powers. spoiler alert? the only person to actually die was professor x but there was a twist with his ending.
all the mutants that lost there powers could get them back since there was a hint of that in the end of the x-men films where magneto was trying to use his powers after losing them as well. so with x-men anything can and will happen.

Justin – the trade paperback has that cover as well!
Just no January Jones please… she was the worst part of X-Men First Class. Although there is no hellfire club in days of future past.
