Before we get to tonight’s results, can we just praise the awesomeness that is Lenny Kravitz. The 47-year-old rocker opened the show and performed a couple of his songs including my personal favorite, “Are You Gonna Go My Way“. The former Mr. Lisa Bonet definitely still has it.
The other performer of the night was Mary J. Blige. She looked stunning in a white dress. That being said, didn’t she look like she was in some sort of illuminated jail cell when white lights surrounded her? For a split second, she could’ve been cellmates with General Zod in “Superman II“. Side note, how bling’d out was that microphone. I can’t sing worth a lick but Papa likes it and wants one.
Sandwiched in between Kravitz’s and Blige’s performance, British Seacrest shares some of the results. Going through to the semi-finals first is Josh Krajcik. No surprise there. Next one to advance is Chris Rene. HOLLER. So happy he’s through. Left to squirm backstage during Mary’s performance are Melanie Amaro, Rachel Crow and Marcus Canty. Could my prediction of a Rachel/Marcus bottom be coming true? Alas, I was right and Melanie Amaro is safe. Now it’s down to the “Save Me” songs. Can Marcus knock out another teenager off the show?
Song: I’m Going Down by Rose Royce
How funny is it that Marcus chose this song? Even though Rose Royce originally sang this song, I always associate it with Mary J. Blige. The latter’s cover is beyond amazing. This is definitely in Marcus’ wheelhouse and shines once again. Rachel better bring it if she wants to stay.
Song: I’d Rather Go Blind by Etta James
Laziness or genius for repeating this song? Personally, I think genius. By far it’s Rachel’s best performance of the series. It’s not as good vocally as the first time around, but she’s definitely feeling it. You go on, girl.
Once again, the mentors’ respective judges stand by their singers. Both Simon and LA chose to eliminate the other. This time around Paula goes first among the impartial judges. Not surprisingly, Paula keeps Rachel. Abdul was on her feet during her performance. Now it’s Nicole’s turn to play bad guy and the deciding factor. She pussies out and keeps Marcus so that it’s up to America.
SHOCKER of all SHOCKERS. Marcus is in and Rachel is OUT. Even though she told Nicole she was okay to go home, she drops to her knees upon hearing the results. She is crying her heart out. I feel so bad for her. Damn you Nicole. Rachel’s mom comes out to console her and Paula consoles Nicole. Looks like Scherzinger will be receiving more death tweets this week after her judging performance tonight.
What did you think of the results? Are you shocked by America’s votes and Nicole’s decision? Sound off below.
