Last night, UK’s popular talent competition X Factor crowned its series 7 winner and the gloves were off. The night opened with a performance of all the acts from the series singing with the group Take That. Remember them? With that, Part 2 of the finale began.

The first performance was from Matt Cardle singing Firework by Katy Perry. Listening and watching, I couldn’t help but cringe at his tone and pitch problems with the song that was clearly out of his range. However, by the end all the stops were pulled when violinist and dancers came on stage and streamers fell from the sky to give his performance an explosive kick. The audience seemed to love it and so did the judges who gave him a standing ovation.

Second up was boy band One Direction. If you haven’t been watching the show, they are a group of young men with slick vocals, adorable smiles and a few Justin Bieber haircuts. They perform Torn by Natalie Imbruglia. Its a great performance and judge Simon Cowell is loving on it. With strong harmonies and a good look, its no wonder many think they may be the first group to win X Factor.

Rebecca Ferguson rounded off the competition with her rendition of Sweet Dreams by Annie Lennox. It starts off slower tempo but as the song continues, it picks up leaving everyone on the feet. The judges loved it as well including her mentor, Cheryl Cole who said that Rebecca did so well and did it all on her own.

THE FINAL 3 WITH TAKE THAT

MATT CARDLE – FIREWORK

ONE DIRECTION – TORN

REBECCA FERGUSON – SWEET DREAMS

Before the results, we were treated to a flashback of the series which was proceeded by a rendition of Bad Romance by all the auditionees. This was awful. I could have done without this performance entirely. What did you think?

THE SERIES 7 AUDITIONEES – BAD ROMANCE

Following this disaster was the announcement of who would take the third place win. One Direction found themselves landing this position. Its unfortunate because they were a bookmark favorite throughout the competition and even Simon Cowell stated he was cheering for them the entire time. I would have really loved to see them take the crown and be the first group winner but there is no doubt in my mind that these guys will have a career post X Factor.

Now, the final two went into showdown mode, singing what would be their lead-off singles if they were to win. Matt sang a version of Many of Honor and Rebecca sang her rendition of I’m A Dreamer. Both sang brilliantly but only one could take the win. After much deliberation, the winner was announced as… Matt Cardle. He had become a favorite and it wasn’t that much of a surprise that he won the entire show. Both him and Rebecca will do well in their careers. Matt was completely humbled by the win thanking everyone and congratulating all those who made it throughout the competition. What a great guy.

AND THE WINNER IS…

What did you think of this year’s winner? Would you have picked Rebecca or One Direction?
