Without a doubt, Derek Hough is one of the most popular professional dancers on Dancing With The Stars. He has a record six mirrorball wins and two Emmy statues for his choreography work on the show. The 31-year-old dancer is waltzing over to another dancing show airing on another network. ABC probably isn’t ecstatic over this.
Hough joins R&B singer Ne-Yo and executive producer Jennifer Lopez on the judging panel of NBC’s upcoming reality competition World of Dance. The series brings the world’s elite dancers together to compete in epic battles of artistry, precision and athleticism. Solo artists compete against duos and crews in an unlimited range of dance, including hip-hop, krumping, popping, locking, tap, ballet, break dancing, ballroom, clogging, stomping and more. The winner of the unparalleled dance competition wins a life-altering grand prize of $1 million.
“Jennifer, Derek and Ne-Yo are three of the most accomplished dancers of their generation, and their incredible insight from the judges’ table will be both inspiring and wholly constructive to the world-class level of dancers who are competing on the show,” said Meredith Ahr, president of Universal Television Alternative Studio. “We feel so very honored that the three of them are giving back to the dance community in this way.”
This isn’t the first time Hough has worked for NBC. He’ll play Corny Collins on the peacock network’s upcoming musical Hairspray Live!, airing December 7.
