WinterPRIDE 2013 is only six weeks away, with this being the 21st Annual Gay Ski Week in Whistler, B.C. A bunch of us here at Homorazzi actually started attending back in 2009 and that’s actually where we came up with the name for what would be known as “Homorazzi” one year later. We always have such a blast, and the last couple years we’ve even captured our experiences in video recaps. Patrick and Adam actually once spent the entire week at WinterPRIDE and had an unforgettable time meeting people from all over the world and attending some incredibly fun parties and apres skis. Homorazzi will be there again this year and we definitely want to see YOU there too!
Every year, there are different performers and events to look forward to and this year there is no exception. The winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars, the amazing Chad Michaels will be there to perform and the headlining DJ for the week is DJ Paul Goodyear. In addition, one of the sexiest and most popular porn stars around, Brent Everett will also be on the mountain and appearing at various events.
Without further delay, check out the Top 10 Reasons why you and your friends should get your ski bums in gear and start planning to be at WinterPRIDE 2013 taking place this coming February 3 – February 10 in Whistler, B.C..
10 Reasons To Attend WinterPride 2013
10. The Skiing & Snowboarding
Let’s just get this out of the way right off the bat…You’re in one of the most beautiful ski resorts on the planet – take advantage of it even if it’s for one day! If you want to meet people, you can also sign up for the WinterPRIDE Ski Guiding, where guides take you to check out all the hidden treats on the mountain so you don’t have to figure them out on your own. Also a great way to meet people… just saying.
If you end up only going up to Whistler for the weekend, our recommendation is to consider that you may want to only ski or board one of the days. Chances are you may be quite hungover one day, or if you have to drive back home on Sunday, you may want to not attempt going heading up the slopes that day. In most places, check-out is 10:00am so you better be ready to get your sh*t together on the last day. Like we said, going up for the week is the most fun, but if you are going to make a weekend out of it, most people we know go up on Thursday, so they have Friday and Saturday to ski or board, with Sunday free for a final brunch before driving or flying back home.
9. Sick & Sexy DJs
There are so many great DJs lined up for all of the parties and apres… and might we add they’re very easy on the eyes 😉 As previously mentioned, DJ Paul Goodyear is headlining the week, performing at the SNOWBALL Party on Saturday, February 9, with Vancouver’s own Nick Bertossi doing the opening set. Throughout the week, also expect to see DJ Adam Dreaddy, DJ Tim Jones, DJ SHE, DJ Matilda Ho, DJ Foxy Moron, DJ Dwayne Minard, DJ Drew, and Country DJ Byron James manning the Cowboy Party.
8. The Activities
If you’re not into skiing or boarding, but what to do something you’ve never done before and have some fun during the day, there are so many options available to you. There are Snowmobile Tours you can sign up for, as well as a Snowshoe Natural Mystic Tour that may capture your interest, taking you through the freshly fallen snow in Whistler’s most pristine old growth forest. If that’s not enough, there is the Zoom Zipline, the 2nd Annual WinterPRIDE 5K Run/Walk, and so much more. In the past couple years we’ve also taken on Tubing and Bungee Jumping as well!
Outside of that (or shall we say inside), there’s also a WinterPRIDE Dine OUT with Canadian award winning chef, Melissa Craig that boasts Four-Course Tasting menu paired with icon British Columbian wines. We’ve attended some of these types of events before and they are so much fun and again, another awesome way to meet people.
7. Mr. Gay Canada Competition Finale
This year’s Mr. Gay Canada will be crowned during ski week, earning the lucky guy the honor in representing Canada at the World Finales in Antwerp, Belgium during the WorldOutgames and Mr. Gay World competition August 1-5, 2013.. This is where you’ll get to see the amazing Chad Michaels perform, an event presented by OUTtv. Crowned winner of the All Stars, she’s certainly one you don’t want to miss and the fashion show that takes place at the finale of the competition is always fun to watch too.
6. The Boys
Let’s face it… aside from the amazing setting we’re in, the wild parties, the activities… it’s also about the men. Hot guys having beers at the Apres with rosy cheeks after spending the day on the mountain – yes, please! There are so many opportunities to meet guys from all over the world at these apres and everyone is in good spirits and super friendly. Who knows, you may meet someone awesome at one of the events or on the mountain and he may invite you back to his condo/resort for a dip in the hot tub… Doesn’t that sound appealing? If you’re not looking for that, you can at least look at the boys and meet some amazing new friends or get to spend quality time with your existing buddies in the process.
5. The Parties
There are so many parties throughout the week and over the weekend that there is literally something for everyone. A pool party, with DJ Adam Dreaddy, a Bear Party, Celebrites Nightclub’s annual Snowstorm Party with a performance by Raye Sunshine (and maybe a few surprise ones) and so many others. The ladies even get their own parties… of course we’ve never been to them but we’ve heard they are tons of fun! Luckily, most of the parties are included in your passes for the week or weekend. We HIGHLY recommend buying one of the passes as it just makes your life easier and you save money in the end… because trust me, you will want to be at all of the events and Apres.
4. The Apres
We wanted to highlight the Apres separately because they shouldn’t be overlooked. These post-ski/boarding minglers are always jam-packed with hot men and it’s one of the best opportunities to strike a conversation with someone you’ve had your eye on, or will have your eye on while you’re there. With great music & fun performances, there is always a great turnout. These take place each and every day of the week.
3. Brent Everett
Brent Everett will be on location in Whistler filming a new OUTtv documentary titled, Outspoken during the 21st annual Gay Ski Week. Fans will get a chance to meet this very well-known award-winning Canadian Porn star when he makes a few special surprise appearances. Sounds great to us!
2. Chad Michaels
It’s pretty amazing that not too long ago, we got to watch Chad Michaels get crowned the biggest titled in RuPaul’s Drag Race history to-date and now we get to see her perform live. In addition to being the winner of All Stars, Chad Michaels was Professor Chad Michaels in Drag U3 and she’s the Top Cher Impersonator, a fierce bitch, and a living legend. As mentioned, she’ll be performing at the Mr. Gay Canada finale and you’re bound to see her around the village and at other events as well.
1. You Will Have A Blast
One thing we can pretty much guarantee is that you will have a blast. We don’t go to this event every year without question because we never have fun… it’s actually just the opposite. As a group of friends, we have made some of the greatest memories from attending WinterPRIDE and as we mentioned, it’s actually where we came up with the name “Homorazzi” so it holds a special place in our hearts. There’s a reason why Gay Ski Week has been taking place for over 20 years… because people have a great time in one of the most beautiful settings on Earth.
