Will Smith and Tilda Swinton both have brand new films arriving on Netflix this year. Smith’s doesn’t arrive until December and Swinton’s in June, but the streaming service has released teasers to promote its two new projects.
Smith reunites with his Suicide Squad director David Ayer for the sci-fi adventure, Bright. Set in an alternate present-day where humans, orcs, elves, and fairies have been co-existing since the beginning of time. Bright is genre-bending action movie that follows two cops from very different backgrounds. Ward (Smith) and Jakoby (Joel Edgerton), embark on a routine patrol night and encounter a darkness that will ultimately alter the future and their world as they know it. Noomi Rapace, Lucy Fry, Edgar Ramirez, Margaret Cho and Ike Barinholtz also star in the film.
Meanwhile, Swinton also reunites with a former collaborator, her Snowpiercer director Bong Joon Ho. The grand global adventure follows a friendship too big to ignore. Meet Mija, a young girl who risks everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend – a massive animal named Okja. Following her across continents, the coming-of-age comedy drama sees Mija’s horizons expand in a way one never would want for one’s children, coming up against the harsh realities of genetically modified food experimentation, globalization, eco-terrorism, and humanity’s obsession with image, brand and self-promotion.
