In 2016, James Van Der Beek and Diplo teamed up for the parody video “Day in the Life of Diplo.” That clip promoted Diplo’s Mad Decent Block Party. Clearly, both parties enjoyed the experience because they’re expanding on their previous collaboration.
What Would Diplo Do? is a new comedy about a fictionalized version of the DJ superstar. The series is being described as “Louie meets WorldStar HipHop crossed with This Is Spinal Tap.” It’s a collection of parables about life as told through the eyes of guy who can bring 60,000 people to their feet… but kind of sucks one-on-one.
“Being an international superstar DJ & producer doesn’t make you good at life. But ain’t nobody got put on this earth ’cause they were perfect, right? So as long as we’re still in the game, we got a chance to get it right.”
Van Der Beek once again portrays the Major Lazer member. He not only stars, but writes and produces it as well. It’s Viceland’s first scripted series.
What Would Diplo Do? premieres August 3. Check out the trailer below.
