Steve Carell Battles Nazis In Inspirational True Story ‘Welcome To Marwen’ (Trailer)

Welcome to Marwen is an upcoming live-action/animated film directed by Robert Zemeckis. It tells the miraculous true story of one broken man’s fight as he discovers how artistic imagination can restore the human spirit.

When a devastating attack shatters Mark Hogancamp (Steve Carell) and wipes away all memories, no one expected recovery. Putting together pieces from his old and new life, Mark meticulously creates a wondrous town where he can heal and be heroic. As he builds an astonishing art installation— a testament to the most powerful women he knows—through his fantasy world, he draws strength to triumph in the real one. When your only weapon is your imagination… you’ll find courage in the most unexpected place.

The film is based on the 2010 American documentary film Marwencol which explored the life and work of artist and photographer Mark Hogancamp. He was attacked outside of a bar by five men who beat him nearly to death. After nine days in a coma and forty days in the hospital, Mark was discharged with brain damage that left him little memory of his previous life.

Leslie Mann, Diane Kruger, Merritt Weaver, Gwendoline Christie, Eiza Gonzalez and Janelle Monáe co-star as the women (and dolls) in his life. Welcome to Marwen opens in theaters on November 21. Watch the moving trailer below.
