It’s the sequel no one was really asking for, but a follow up to Independence Day will hit theaters twenty years after the original blockbuster stormed cineplexes. While it’s highly unlikely Will Smith will return, his on-screen love interest has just signed on the dotted line.
Vivica A. Fox played Jasmine, a single mother slash exotic dance in the 1996 blockbuster film. She would eventually marry Smith’s character. Director Roland Emmerich broke the news via Twitter.
The 50-year-old actress is just the latest from the original cast to return. Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman also agreed to reprise their roles for the sequel. New blood cast for the film include Liam Hemsworth, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Jessie Usher. The latter is playing Smith and Fox’s son.
Excited for the sequel? Do you think Will Smith will return for a cameo? Sound off below. Independence Day 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on June 24, 2016. Check out Emmerich and Fox’s tweets below, along with Fox channeling her inner stripper from the original blockbuster.
