Earlier this month, rumors of another Spice Girls reunion made headlines. However this time, even Victoria Beckham was reportedly involved. The five ladies would come together to record a new album and a one-off television special. 2018 would mark the 20th anniversary of their mega-hit “Stop” and when Ginger Spice left the group the first time.
“The five of them have been locked in secret talks since the summer, and finally they are all on-board for a 2018 reunion,’ a source told The Sun. “As it stands, they will be working together on a series of projects, which will include an album and a TV special celebrating the Spice Girls.”
While I was hoping it was true, I had a feeling it was a bunch of BS. Turns out my gut was right. If they couldn’t reunite to commemorate the girl group’s formation and breakout hit “Wannabe” in 2016, then there was no way in hell this latest reunion would come to fruition. Even the spinoff group GEM that year, featuring Ginger, Baby and Scary Spice, got derailed due to Geri Horner’s pregnancy.
While sitting with her BFF Eva Longoria to promote Global Gift Gala, Beckham addressed and squashed those rumors during an interview with This Morning. “At some point you’ve gotta know when it’s time to say, ‘That was great.'” Beckham added “I don’t think I’ll be slipping into a PVC catsuit anytime soon.” The last time the Spice Girls, fully intact, performed was at the 2012 London Olympics.
