Usually, I find myself a part of the Vancouver Pride Parade with the Out For Kicks Soccer League, doing a choreographed dance courtesy of Dan. This year, we didn’t get around to organzing in time, but as a result I got to witness the whole parade which was a great experience in itself. It was great to see so many people of all different genders, races, ages, religions, and sexuality, both participating in the parade and watching.
I’m pretty open with my emotions, and I have to say seeing this event where hundreds of thousands of people are showing their support for gay rights and celebrating with us, it makes my eyes water a little. We are so blessed to live in a city that is so open and more or less an example for many other places in the world. It is so important that we keep fighting the fight for equal rights.
Vancouver, here is your pride…check out the video of the Vancouver Pride Parade 2009 and the festival that followed…

I, too, found myself a bit “misty” eyed during the parade. I had my dad, stepmother and sister there with me, and felt so grateful to live in a remarkably welcoming and supportive community. Oh, Canada!
