Steven Soderbergh Filmed ‘Unsane’ Starring Claire Foy Using Only His iPhone

Back in summer 2017, Steven Soderbergh was working on two secret projects. Mosaic, starring Sharon Stone, recently premiered on HBO. Now, we get our first look at what else the 55-year-old director was working on.

Unsane is a psychological horror-thriller starring Claire Foy (The Crown). She plays a young woman who is involuntarily committed to a mental institution. She is confronted by her greatest fear — but is it real or is it a product of her delusion? Joshua Leonard, Jay Pharoah, Juno Temple, Aimee Mullins and Amy Irving also star. Reportedly, Soderbergh shot the entire film using an iPhone.

“I think this is the future,” Soderbergh said at Sundance about his experimental approach. “Anybody going to see this movie who has no idea of the backstory to the production will have no idea this was shot on the phone. That’s not part of the conceit.”

Check out the trailer below. Unsane arrives March 23.
