Last year, our very own Tyrell was working on CW’s Hellcats in its first and only season. After the show wrapped up, besides writing for Homorazzi, Tyrell decided to do something that he has always wanted to do: Write, sing, and perform his own music. All of the music was self produced by him on this very laptop, which was a huge learning curve for him. After only a matter of months of hard work and several live performances, sharing the stage with the likes of Destineak, Wynter Gordon, and Martha Wash, Tyrell has now finished his first EP. The album is comprised of five original songs, including the title track, “Dance With Me”. It’s one of my faves.
“I am a dancer and singer so I want to make sure that I can make music that my friends and new listeners can dance to,” says Tyrell. “I also want to tell a story in my lyrics that you can relate to. Whether it’s love, a break-up, a hook-up or remembering what it was like to be young and free, I hopefully have a song for you.”
In addition to working on his music, later this month, Tyrell will begin rehearsals for West Side Story which will be showing at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre here in Vancouver in October. Following the show in the winter, he plans to do a small tour and release the title track “Dance With Me” to radio.
I’m so proud of Tyrell and know how hard he has worked. “DANCE WITH ME” is available on iTunes, and soon to be available on Amazon.com and Spotify as well.
