Tyra Banks Returns As Host For America’s Next Top Model Cycle 24

What Tyra Banks giveth, she also taketh away. Poor Rita Ora.

Just days after joining the America’s Got Talent family, the 43-year-old supermodel returns to her baby. VH1 announced TyTy will return as host for Cycle 24 of the long-running modeling competition.

Bank says in a statement, “I’m overwhelmed and humbled by the intensity of the ‘ANTM’ fan base whose deep affection for the show led me to have a change of heart. After giving it a lot of thought, I realized that remaining behind the camera wasn’t enough because ‘ANTM’ is woven into my DNA.”

Banks briefly relinquished hosting duties to Ora when VH1 resurrected the show from The CW graveyard. Upon announcing her return, Tyra showered Ora with praise via Twitter.

I have no doubt Banks was motivated after seeing the numbers. ANTM saw an upswing in its new home. The season premiere for Cycle 23 set a five-year ratings high with 1.7 million people tuning in. Obviously, those numbers were buoyed by the fact there was a new host and a mandate to return back to basics.

“Tyra has always been the heart and soul of the franchise and her absence was deeply felt by our fiercely loyal fans who missed their Queen of the Smize. We’d like to thank Rita Ora for being a great partner and total pro. She infused this new iteration of ‘ANTM’ with passion and creativity and we wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors,” said producer Ken Mok.

Production will begin this summer with additional panelists to be announced at a later date. Do you think it’s wise for Tyra to return? Did Rita do a solid job during her one-year tenure? I personally loved Cycle 23. The models and shoots were fantastic.
