It took a while, but NBC has finally decided what to do with Trial & Error. The freshman comedy, along with Chicago: Justice, were the only scripted shows on the peacock network that were still in limbo leading up to its annual upfronts presentation.
Fans of the crime spoof mockumentary will be glad to know that court will return to session for a Season 2. The midseason comedy, about a bright-eyed New York lawyer relocating to a Southern town to defend an eccentric professor accused of murdering his wife, generated alright ratings. During its first season, the 9pm airings averaged a 1.3 rating in adults 18-49 and 5.5 million viewers overall in Live+7, while the 9:30 pm episodes averaged a 1.1 in 18-49 and 4.4 million viewers. No doubt helping its renewal chances was the fact the series attracted an upscale and well-educated audience.
With exception to John Lithgow, the rest of the cast including Nicholas D’Agosto, Jayma Mays, Steven Boyer, Krysta Rodriguez and Sherri Shepherd are expected to return for the show’s ten-episode second season. Did you watch Trial & Error? Glad that it’s coming back? Sound off below.
