UGH. Looks like I won’t be watching 90210’s fourth season. According to TVLine.com, one of my favorite actors is leaving the show. Trevor Donovan aka Teddy Montgomery will no longer be a series regular. Instead, he’ll be relegated to guest-starring status with only five episodes planned. After that, who knows? Maybe he’ll head off to the 90210 wasteland and hang with Season 1 evictee, Dustin Milligan. Now that’s one hot bromance I’d like to see develop into something else.
Arguably, Teddy’s storyline from the show’s third season was the most compelling. He went from womanizing tennis player, to closeted hookup, to full-on coming out gay and eventual prom king. Talk about a senior year. Teddy was one of the best things about the show, along with AnnaLynne McCord’s Naomi. I can’t believe the showrunners are letting go of such a great character and keeping the sniveling fool known as Adrianna. The writers should’ve made her jump off the cliff in the season finale.
Trevor Donovan hasn’t lined up anything as of yet, but I’m sure he’ll find something. He’s too hot and great not to find work. I’m sure Donovan is pretty shocked by the show’s decision to let him go. In an interview he gave near the season finale, he talked about his character’s future, now that the kids have graduated West Bev High.
“I don’t have a clue on the planet,” he said of Teddy’s Season 4 direction. “I swear to you, I have no idea. They’ve left it very open-ended with my character. We’ll see which direction he goes in. There are so many possibilities in my mind, which is kind of cool.”
“90210” had such an excellent opportunity to develop his character so many ways. Instead, they’ll probably just recycle a bunch of overdone storylines like someone getting pregnant, cheating on someone, or having a crazy relative come to town. One of the things that sucks the most about the resident gay leaving is, it means no more guest-starring hotties are dropping by to make out with Teddy. Just last year, he hooked up with three studs. Imagine, what he could’ve plowed through in his college freshmen year. I guess we’ll never know. I’m curious to see how they write him out.
Are you saddened by 90210’s decision to say “no homo” to Trevor Donovan? Hopefully, someone starts a campaign to keep him on the show. Post your thoughts below. In closing, I thought I’d embed a video chronicling Teddy’s coming out story. You can watch the rest by clicking on the appropriate links at the end of the clip.
