Tom Hardy is switching up his comic book allegiances. The 40-year-old actor flip flops from DC Comics to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for his next role. The former Bane portrayer will star in an upcoming Spider-Man spinoff.
One of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and bad-ass characters comes to the big screen later this year. The Academy Award nominated actor steps in to play the anti-hero in director Ruben Fleischer’s Venom. Topher Grace previously starred as the character in Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man 3.
Venom was originally conceived as a supervillain, but has since become more of an anti-hero. The character is a Symbiote, a sentient alien, with a gooey, almost liquid-like form. As with real-world symbiotes, it requires a host, usually human, to bond with for its survival. After bonding, the Symbiote endows its enhanced powers upon the host. His most notable host was Brock who was a journalist.
Also starring in Venom are Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed and Reid Scott. Venom arrives in theaters October 5. Check out the teaser trailer below.
