Nielsen Ratings: ‘This Is Us’ Delivers Stellar Ratings & ‘Law & Order: True Crime’ Starts Solidly

NBC’s decision not to move This Is Us to Thursday nights probably was a great call. The drama kicked off its second season on a great foot, delivering pretty stellar ratings. No sophomore slump here… at least for now.

The Season 2 premiere attracted 12.6 million total viewers and generated a 3.8 demo rating. The overall viewership is only second to the drama’s freshman finale which brought in 12.8 million viewers. However, with regards to the coveted demo it achieved a best, beating its previous record of 3.4. Overall, the S2 premiere was up 36 percent from its series premiere last year.

This Is Us helped the peacock network’s latest Dick Wolf series to a solid launch. Law & Order: True Crime: The Menendez Murders</em> drew in 6.2 million viewers and 1.7 demo rating.

Unlike NBC, both FOX and CBS saw their sophomore series stumble out of the blocks. The eye network saw Bull return to its second-lowest numbers. Its 9.9 million viewers and 1.2 demo was only second last to its freshman season finale. Over on FOX, Lethal Weapon debuted on its new night with only 4.3 million viewers and 1.2 rating. That’s well shy of its freshman average of 6.5 mil/1.6.
