It’s movie soundtrack week on “The X Factor“! So we’ve got our Top 11, and with the help of their mentors they are going to bring their best movie soundtrack songs to the live stage. Somethings I noticed this week:
Anyway, the show is about these contestants so let’s get down to it!
Song: Queen of the Night (The Bodyguard)
No idea why she chose this song, Stacy is 41 years old not 21 years old. She should’ve done I will always love you obviously. That would’ve been great, but to each their own. She looked amazing although I do prefer her with a bang. She did ok, not my fave Stacy performance but good.
Song: I’m Going Down (Carwash)
Ahhh the Jazlyn Little song. He did it way better. His jacket was ridiculous but his singing was spot on. Definitely one of the best of the night for sure.
Song: Fix You (You, me and Dupree)
I think Drew looked absolutely adorable tonight. One of the things I noticed was they they kept saying she’s doing something new and needs to be good or it could go wrong. Uhhh she sang a song solo. It was the same kind of thing she always does. However she does it well. Drew is the top contender right now for sure.
Song: I Still Haven’t Found, What I’m Looking For (Runaway Bride)
I can always count on LeRoy to do Sting, Michael Bolton or U2 songs because he does them well. I thought his performance was great, and agreed with Simon that it’s probably his best so far.
Song: Somebody Like You (How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days)
One of my fave movies! Donovan’s favourite and my top 4 did GREAT tonight. I love these girls I think they are really marketable, and are definitely getting better and better. Lightyears ahead from last week.
Song: Lose Yourself (8Mile)
OBVIOUSLY! Very predictable song choice HOWEVER this guy made it all his own. When I watch him perform I see a star. I don’t know how far he will get cause he’s SO rap, but he is incredible. His performance blew me away. Another best one of the night for sure.
Song: Man In The Mirror (This Is It)
Yawn. Yawn Yawn Yawn! Melanie has an amazing voice. Melanie looked the best she’s ever looked tonight. Melanie did a song that was SO predictable. I will say smart to do an MJ song the week the verdict of his doctor came in. Sympathy points much? The more I watch Melanie, the more I’m scared for her. She’s very predictable and doesn’t excited me anymore. She needs to step it up. However she did good.
Song: Ain’t No Other Man (Get Smart)
Bottom two last week, bottom two this week. This guys have lost their spark. They are on their way out.
Song: With A Little Help From My Friends (Across the Universe)
Another perfect song choice for Josh. His staging was terrible, bad bad Nicole. He kind of sings like he’s having a stroke which irritates me, but his voice is great. He’ll be safe.
Song: Gangta’s Paradise (Dangerous Minds)
Another predictable choice. However where Astro is a master MC and an amazing performer, Chris Rene seems completely fony to me. His rhymes are VERY simple and his performance is boring. He also looks extremely jacked up whenever he performs. Whether it’s from residual from his junkie days, or that’s the way he is I don’t know. I want him gone, but he’ll be safe.
Song: I’d Rather Go Blind (Cadillac Records)
FINALLY! FINALLY Simon let her do something amazing. No cutesy bullshit, no bad mohawk, no bubblegum. This girl can sing and tonight she sang way beyond her year. She was by far the best performance of the night and is growing so much as an artist. She picked her song, not Simon and it was perfect. She was my fave tonight. Bravo Rachel!
That’s it, Stereo Hoggz and Stacy Francis most likely in bottom 2 this week, with Stacy being safe. We’ll find out tomorrow!

“Yawn” for Melaine? Say what? Honey, Melanie could sing a lullabee and keep everyone awake and in tears! Plus, talk about a double standard, much? Where’s the diversity in Drew’s performance? I hear no similar protests from you. Yes, she’s a great indie/alternative artist, but come on man, gimme something new, won’t you Drew, darling?
And, you know, come to think of it, Drew shouldn’t have to “diversify” her act. She soars at what she does best and I see no reason why Melanie shouldn’t be judged by those same standards.
On a final note, pardon the pun, the Stereo Hoggz need to wallow on a different stage, ’cause they have sung their last tune. I am sure inTENsity is vindicated, and the judges’ mouths are frothing with buyer’s remorse, after seeing the horrendous performance of the group that was saved last week.

I think “Astro” could put the 5 million to the best use. While I’m not a fan of his genre I really enjoy watching him perform because I don’t feel like he’s trying to imitate anyone more famous.

@jamal
re read my drew post. I did say uhh didn’t she do the same thing, solo song. Although last week while I wasn’t a fan, she did try something different, so she is experimenting SOMETIMES.
I think melanie has a great voice for sure, but the Melanie from the auditions is not the melanie I’m getting right now. Something is missing. When she sang listen it was like A STAR IS BORN and now, I feel like she isn’t shinning enough for me. Maybe it’s her mentors fault?
Stereo Hoggz need to go for sure I agree with you.

I’m actually glad Stacy didn’t do “I will always love you”. It’s exactly what everyone expected her to do, and the last thing she needs is to start being predictable in this competition.

Great recap Tommy! I’m loving the US version. I will say, the one thing I hate is the judges saying the artists need to mix things up. For example, with Drew. She’s doing the exact songs that she would put on an album, and I think she should stick with it. It would be like LA Reid saying to Adele, ‘you should really mix things up’. There’s just no reason to, when it’s so damn good!

I love Stacy and Melanie…
I think the lead singer of the Stereo Hogs would have killed as a solo artist…
I agree that Josh looks like he is about to explode when he sings and it can be distracting but he has a great voice.
And I agree with Paula that Drew looked ridiculous… And I don’t really get why everyone goes crazy for her singing… yawn…
