The Weeknd Drops Moody ‘My Dear Melancholy’ EP About Past Relationships

In two weeks The Weeknd heads to Indio, California to headline Friday night at the 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. No doubt when he hits the stage, the 28-year-old Canadian singer will perform songs from his surprise EP, My Dear Melancholy, which he just released.

His six-song EP is a departure from his dance-heavy album, Starboy. It’s moodier and more reminiscent of his earlier eras- Trilogy and Kiss Land. Like those, he sings about money, sex, lust, drugs and women. Speaking of women, many of his fans believe his famous exes Selena Gomez and Bella Hadid served as inspirations for the tracks.

Try Me” finds The Weekend begging a previous lover to leave her man for him. Meanwhile, he talks about being tempted to take pills to cope with a heartbreaking split on “Privilege.” He then covers unrequited love on “Hurt You.” The “Earned It” hitmaker definitely thought about Selena and Bella when writing these tracks.
