This weekend, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 opened in theatres with an astounding estimated $141.3 million. This is the fifth and final instalment of the Twilight series was just above the $138.12 million start of last year’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 and just below the $142.84 million start of 2009′s The Twilight Saga: New Moon. On it’s own, it was the eighth largest opening weekend performance of all-time, and tenth when inflation is taken into account.
Skyfall, which dominated the box office last weekend, came in second this weekend and brought in an estimated $41.5 million. That brings its total to $161.3 million so far. In third place was Lincoln, a Steven Spielberg-directed drama starring Daniel Day-Lewis that opened this weekend.
