It was bound to happen and now it’s officially coming our way. The team that brought 2006 parody flick Date Movie is developing another comedic film, this time poking fun at The Hunger Games. Hilariously titled, The Starving Games, Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer will make jabs at Katniss Everdeen and company, but will also mock(ingjay LOL) The Avengers, Sherlock Holmes and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II. Production on the parody film will reportedly kick off this week in New Orleans.
As with the big screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ novel, the key to the film is finding the perfect person to portray the heroine lead. Jennifer Lawrence beat out a slew of actresses to play the part including Emma Roberts, Emily Browning, Shailene Woodley, Hailee Steinfeld and others. The Starving Games has found its own version of Katniss, aptly called Kantmiss Evershot. Find out who’s playing her and the spoof version of Liam Hemsworth’s Gale Hawthorne below.
24-year-old Maiara Walsh scored the gig, along with previous Man Crush Brant Daugherty. Walsh is mostly known for her work on drama television on shows like The Secret Life of the American Teenager and The Vampire Diaries. Fans of Desperate Housewives might also recognize Maiara for playing Eva Longoria’s niece, Ana Solis. Pretty Little Liars actor, Daughtery steps into Hemsworth’s shoes. The 27-year-old actor’s other credits include Days of our Lives and the web series, Private.
With the main leads cast, I wonder who’ll step in to play Peta, Effie Trinket and Caesar Flickerman. Have any suggestions? If the spoof does well, I can see it becoming a trilogy like The Hunger Games. Don’t you? Will you check out this spoof? Sound off below.
