The Mayor was supposed to return from the holiday break on January 9, but that’s been vetoed by ABC. The alphabet network has canceled the freshmen series and doesn’t plan on airing the remaining four unaired episodes. Reruns of Modern Family will take its timeslot until further notice.
The comedy bowed to 4.08 million viewers in October. For its most recent showing, the numbers slide to 2.81 million viewers. Out of ABC’s comedies, it’s the least-watched and lowest-rated, placing eighth behind Fresh Off The Boat. Reportedly, the production company is planning to shop it around to other networks.
The political comedy starred Brandon Micheal Hall as an aspiring rapper who accidentally becomes mayor of his California hometown. He initially ran for office just to gain some publicity for his new album. Lea Michele and Yvette Nicole Brown also starred.
Did you watch The Mayor? I sampled it for a couple of episodes, but wasn’t overly impressed. Poor Michele. Will she find another successful series after Glee? Weigh in below.
